Welcome to my guide to Jhoira, Weatherlight Captain

Intro:

For years I have been playing Azami, Lady of Scrolls, I always loved the combo potential that she gave me, and her insane draw allowed for some great consistency, and together with all of blue's great artifact synergy it became a potent decklist, but when Jhoira was spoiled, all of that changed. Jhoira has been one of my favorite characters in the lore, and the fact that they then made a card for her that would be the perfect commander for my deck made it impossible for me not to play her.

is this deck for you?

You like:

  • playing competitive commander
  • artifacts and love playing into their synergies
  • Storming out early
  • playing with a deck that requires you to think about your plays

you don't like:

  • Slow and grinded out games
  • Casual Commander
  • Winning through combat

Card Evaluation

some of the most important cards and their Usage:

Laboratory Maniac: this deck will draw out really fast, so this little guy allows you to win.

Aetherflux Reservoir: you can absolutely play your whole deck in a single turn, this card makes winning a bit faster.

Grapeshot: significantly better in a 1v1, but allows a kill early, or multiple if you hold it.

Paradox Engine: Allows you to pretty much play your whole deck, should be enough.

Walking Ballista: with enough mana you just shoot them all, GG.

Words of Wind: if you have two mana rocks you can bounce all the permanents your opponents have.

Quicksmith Genius&Riddlesmith: turn the already insane draw from Jhoira into an even better draw.

Ponder/Preordain/Brainstorm: Allows you to draw early and get a better hand for when Jhoira hits the field.

Wheel of Fortune: gives you a hand of new cards if you are done with the old one.

Paradoxical Outcome: first of all, this card makes this deck explode, take all the cheap artifacts back into your hand, draw tons of cards, and all the artifacts you recast draw even more cards.

Chain of Vapor: Allows you to sacrifice unnecessary lands to return re-castable artifacts. Can also be used as temporary removal.

Hurkyl's Recall/Rebuild/Retract: take back all the artifact (possibly rescue them from a wipe.) and play them all again!

Drafna's Restoration: all the artifacts from the grave back on top, draw and play them all again.

Etherium Sculptor/Helm of Awakening/Foundry Inspector: draws a card and makes everything easier

Strenghts and Weaknesses:

Strengths:

this deck allows for a very fast, very consistent win. when you have a hand with early mana and some artifacts that usually means you are in a position to win the game.

Weaknesses:

this deck sacrifices some control and utility for its speed, this means in large multiplayer/long games you will have trouble with dealing with all their answers, and you are not great at keeping their board under control.

Conclusion:

Jhoira allows for a very consistent gameplan. it is a deck build around storming out as early as possible and it is quite capable of protecting it's own board.
