Fist of Suns as a Commander? Lets Brew.

Now for the list!

This deck is first and foremost a combo deck, and all cards in this deck aim to help that game-plan in one way or another.
The combo that the deck revolves around is between Worldgorger Dragon and Animate Dead and works as follows.
  1. Have Worldgorger Dragon in the graveyard.

  2. Cast Animate Dead targeting Worldgorger Dragon and bringing it into play with Animate Dead attatched.

  3. Worldgorger Dragon enters the battlefield and triggers its related ability.

  4. Worldgorger Dragon's ability destroys Animate Dead, which causes Worldgorger Dragon to go to the graveyard.

  5. Worldgorger Dragon's leaving play ability triggers, returning Animate Dead to play.

  6. Animate Dead re-enters play and targets Worldgorger Dragon.

  7. repeat steps 3-6 as many times as you want.

This combo grants you infinite enter the battlefield triggers and infinite death triggers, and requires additional cards to actually win the game, however this is the crux of how this deck operates and wins.

The deck uses the above mentioned combo in conjunction with a few different cards in order to actually close out games, those cards being:
This deck could be built with a number of different commanders, who are featured below.
  • Exava, Rakdos Blood Witch is the only viable commander that could be built as a barebones version of deck as it has which is necessary for the combo, and which enables tutoring as well as being necessary for the combo, Exava, Rakdos Blood Witch also provides the ability to lean more into the plan B of the deck, that being to start swinging in with our two dragons.
  • Jeleva, Nephalia's Scourge is one of a few acceptable commanders for this deck and is arguably the best in for this list, despite this she still runs the risk of exiling Worldgorger Dragon or other permanents you might need rather than just netting you more tutors.
  • Kaalia of the Vast is a potential commander as she allows you to get Worldgorger Dragon into play faster, however this also requires holding a sacrifice outlet in hand to put Worldgorger Dragon into your graveyard if you want to go with the plan A of actually comboing out.
  • Saskia the Unyielding is a commander and is another commander who allows you to lean much more heavily into plan B and allows for much more ramp and tutors by being .
  • Scion of the Ur-Dragon is an excellent commander for the deck and even puts Worldgorger Dragon into the graveyard where it needs to be, the only real marks against this commander is that the list is already full of tutors, so having a different effect in the command zone is considerable.
  • Child of Alara is another option that allows you to play around effects such as Ground Seal, the primary issue is that unless you have excessive mana you will likely have to combo out the following turn, allowing the table a chance to rebuild their graveyard hate or even win.
  • Jodah, Archmage Eternal is the commander I ultimately ended up going with, as this card not only helps with plan A by cheapening some large tutors such as Tooth and Nail and Dragonstorm, as well as helping our plan B by cheapening both of our dragons, making cards cheaper is a very limited effect compared to tutoring, which is why this is so valuable to have in our command zone.
  • There are a few cards that seem poor or like they don't fit our strategy that will be explained below.
  • Dragonstorm: this card only costs and only requires one other card to be cast before it in order to grab both Worldgorger Dragon and Scourge of Valkas, from there you can find ways to combo off.
  • Tooth and Nail: similarly to Dragonstorm you can grab both Worldgorger Dragon and Scourge of Valkas and can be made to only cost .
  • Riftsweeper this card is our only real way of grabbing Worldgorger Dragon from exile and is in the deck for solely that reason. unlike Animate Dead, Worldgorger Dragon has no replacement cards in our deck.
  • Fauna Shaman is an excellent way to get Worldgorger Dragon out of our hand and into our graveyard and can be used to find ramp etc.
  • Fist of Suns is a cheaper and easier to cast version of Jodah, Archmage Eternal, and while the redundancy might seem unnecessary, being able to play around creature hate and still drop large tutors for cheap is a good effect.
