First off, I'm sorry to say but your mana is a bit our of wack an not remotely with your colour pie. Basically multiply, say, 18%(your red) times the amount of land. That's the amount that should have red or whatever. the pie chart shows you the card colour percentages for your deck.

Cabal Coffers, Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth, and to a lesser extent Gaea's Cradle(though probably not in this deck) could help add more accesability to your lands. Fetch lands are also ber important because in 5 colour decks it's not uncommon to be out of one specific colour. Also, most 5 colour decks have no basic lands, which is easily done, It's just a thought.

Atm you don't have a board wipe like Cyclonic Rift, Wrath of God, or Vandalblast. It's pretty standard in spell-type decks.

The much dreaded storm mechanic would be great here imo just because 1/3 of the cards in your deck are instants/sorceries. Even if there were only 4-5 of them, it would slightly improve your chances of success.

I don't understand why Tatyova, Benthic Druid is in your deck, it doesn't seem to synergise well. I think that Jace, the Mind Sculptor would be better because you can hate on somebody or brainstorm every turn.

Beacon of Tomorrows and Expropriate you can obviously cheat. This makes them strictly better than Time Warp for you.

Narset, Enlightened Master would be interesting here, although it may mess a couple of things up. It does cheat mana costs, though. It's just a thought.

Clyde_Bankston: I've been fiddling with this deck for a while now and I've made some changes. Thanks for suggesting Narset, Enlightened Master, though I initially didn't think it would fit here.

Its still a work in progress.

Arcane Artisan does the same thing as Jonah, just instead of a Turn 6 Emrakul, it's a Turn 4 Emrakul. I think it'd be right up your ally with it cheating mana costs.

Its not really a good fit. I'm not running enough high CMC creatures to utilize this card. I could totally build a Jodah deck that could use it though, its a great card in the right deck. Simple ramp serves this deck better.

Have you thought about Zacama, Primal Calamity?

1empyrean says... #6

Yeah, its in the maybe board. The problem is I don't have one, or I would be running it.

I would say run some storm cards like Volcanic Awakening, Empty the Warrens, and some others. Copy spells like Bonus Round or nice. You should also run cards that care about casting instant and sorceries (Young Pyromancer, Talrand, Sky Summoner, Guttersnipe, and Sentinel Tower). Cheating out cards during other player's turns is nice too, this can be done through Vedalken Orrery, Leyline of Anticipation. Mizzix of the Izmagnus is also a must. This deck seems like it wants to be an instant and sorcery deck, so if you want some ideas you could check out my deck,

(Although, keep in mind that the deck needs tuning)

While I like storm in this deck, I've been avoiding it to try things that are more appropriate for Jodah.

Sentinel Tower and Guttersnipe are both good, and I've considered running Sphinx-Bone Wand, which would work even better. Its a matter of what to adjust in the deck, and if it give me more than what I take out, since none of these change the way you would play the deck.

Docent of Perfection  Flip and Metallurgic Summonings do well for my token generation, and Noyan Dar, Roil Shaper use to be in the deck, and might return eventually.

Mizzix of the Izmagnus is alright, but in my current build, its value is generally less than having my commander on the field. I don't really care about gradually reducing costs.

So you played this deck a bit different than I, and honestly I really love what you did. It's chaos and spellslinging all in one! +1 for sure.

I noticed that you have Nicol Bolas in your maybe board, I'd like to suggest you ammend that to Nicol Bolas, God-Pharaoh or just add him in addition. He's been an allstar in my Jodah deck (Jodah's Fire Sale!), I also had Etali, Primal Storm out and man that was insane playing everyone's deck but my own.

Speaking of your maybe board, Legacy Weapon is a champ.

Also lands... Crystal Quarry and Cascading Cataracts are definite includes in every iteration of Jodah.

One last thing, dude did you see that new card Nexus Of Fate from M19? It's going to be fire in this deck!

The only reason im not running either or both nicol bolas cards is to play around with Karn Liberated. I actually prefer bolas over Karn and need to grab a Nicol Bolas, God-Pharaoh for this deck, but at least Karn does fun things.

Yeah I like nexus of fate, too. I could be running more extra turn cards, but the 2 im using seem to be enough for now.

I like doing things differently, im glad you like it.

I added a bunch of stuff to the maybeboard and added Monastery Mentor to the deck. I completely forgot the card existed for some reason, but I think its a good fit here.

1empyrean yes our decks are different but that's the beauty of Jodah! You can build him SO many ways; I mean I have a walker Jodah deck as well.

Karn is great, but I don't see why that means you can't play Nicol Bolas... Play them both! #Value

I could, and I probably will at this point. I have to figure out what I want to get rid of first though.

considering Dovescape is in your maybe board you could be running Guile for the infinite birds combo

June 14, 2018 2:59 p.m.

1empyrean says... #15

A while back I was going to use more counterspells, but I really don't know how I would make it work in a 5 color deck. I left Dovescape in the maybeboard because it interacts with Eye of the Storm, but I don't have enough to make Guile worth it, which is something I wanted to do at one point because Guile Is fun.

That said, if someone else knows their way around counterspell decks better than me, it would definitely be fun, along with stuff like Ice Cave, Chancellor of the Annex, and Nullstone Gargoyle, Decree of Silence, and a bunch of other things.

By the way I know you aren't going for a chaos build but... Hive Mind+Curse of Echoes in this deck would be bonkers

DrkNinja says... #17

Also here goes helping with your cuts...

  • Kiora, Master of the Depths:I just don't think it really syncs with your deck very well it wants to interact with lands & creatures and you are a spells deck
  • Cultivator's Caravan: If you are goint to play a 3 drop like this run Darksteel Ingot
  • Rattleclaw Mystic & Birds of Paradise: These are both great cards turn 1-3, however later in the game lets say turn 7 it feels like garbage to draw a mana birds, like real hot garbage
  • Docent Of Perfection: It's too expensive, Monastery Mentor does pretty much the same thing but they get prowess which makes them better.
  • Cut 1 Swamp & Plain for the rainbow lands

Also what is your main win con? Combat damage? Spell Damage? Jank? I think you should really narrow down to one of those. Cuz right now it feels like your a spells deck with creatures which is awkward.

June 15, 2018 12:55 p.m.

1empyrean says... #18

Thanks for the suggestions. First, my main win con is usually combat damage with a bit of jank thrown in. I use a lot of my spells to keep the board small, but I've avoided running actual board wipes. Its a personal preference thing.

Second, Kiora, Master of the Depths does some self mill, which might not make any sense, but with the cards i'm running for recursion it can actually work out. Cultivator's Caravan can become a 5/5 creature, and that means it interacts with kiora and Jeskai Ascendancy.

Third, Docent of Perfection  Flip was getting cut already. I put Nicol Bolas, God-Pharaoh in its place.

So, yeah, I guess it is a spells deck with creatures. I'm still working on the mana base, but its been low on my priority list. Any big changes means reevaluating a bunch of other cards, and probably making exactly the cuts you've suggested. I really need to do some live testing first.

June 15, 2018 4:38 p.m.

DrkNinja says... #19

I mean I don't think it matters what basics you cut just as long as you do. The Cascading Cataracts and Crystal Quarry synergize too well with Jodah

June 15, 2018 7:25 p.m.

1empyrean says... #20

DrkNinja The way the deck is currently built, Cascading Cataracts doesn't do as much as it could, and I need to make some changes to the mana base to properly use it. I might end up getting Mana Reflection for this deck. Nothing is going to make my deck any less quirky and awkward, thats just the way I want this version of Jodah to be, so long as it works.

I might run Mycosynth Lattice, and run more cards that do stuff with artifacts. I just have to keep in mind it is a nonbo with Din of the Fireherd. I really want to see what I can do with a 5 color artifacts deck so that might end up becoming a second Jodah deck.

Newest addition: Deny Reality.

Also, Hive Mind + Curse of Echoes does sounds like a ton of fun. I could make a variant of this is all chaos.

June 18, 2018 11:17 a.m.

DrkNinja says... #22

I don't understand what you mean it doesn't do as much as it could, it makes it so you don't have to to have one of each color of mana to cheat spells out you just have to have 5 colorless to get WUBRG. It literally does nothing but add to the deck Especially Cataracts because it's any combination doesn't HAVE to be WUBRG. It's just good mana fixing.

June 19, 2018 10:22 a.m.

1empyrean says... #23

I meant that I dont have colorless ramp, which would mean taking full advantage of the mana conversion, but I tested it out for a while and you are right. I'm only running one at the moment but I'll get around to adding the other eventually.

I feel bad about disagreeing earlier...

June 19, 2018 11:33 a.m.

DrkNinja says... #24

Don't feel bad about it, in fact I felt a little pushy for being so persistent, I just know how much the card helps the deck. Plus it's indestructible... which is weird honestly but it's great if you play against any land destruction.

So I apologize if I was coming off super pushy.

June 19, 2018 12:53 p.m.

1empyrean says... #25

Nah, its cool.

I changed out the land tutors, I was using before. Pir's Whim can search for Cascading Cataracts too, which is a bonus.

I'm looking forward to Scapeshift being reprinted, as well as a bunch of other stuff from M19.
