M19 feels like yet another masters set honestly...

It needed to happen. I'm currently looking at ways to break Scapeshift without changing the focus of the deck too much because I'm a sucker for landfall.

I'm also looking at swapping out my basic lands now that I'm not running anything that cares about them.

@1empyrean what cards would you cut if you'd have to make a budget version of this deck? and with what cards would you replace those?

To make a budget version, you would probably have to start from scratch, but the thing the deck is built around is Eye of the Storm and whatever you want to cast to keep things going, and those pieces are cheap. None of the expensive cards are essential to the combo. Since you would probably cut most of the walkers, you would need more card draw spells and cantrips.

I haven't really thought about budget for this deck at all. Sorry.

no problem! I now know what I have to do when building a budget version of this deck!

Seems like a cool deck. Do you have enough ramp to use and abuse Jodah’s ability early? I would suggest adding mana rocks. Signets seems like a good way to get the mana fixing you need early.

Maybe you can even have the deck run around Paradox Engine instead? It would work well with Insidious Dreams especially if you can play cards like Future Sight and Magus of the Future. From there, I think casting those big spells you like so much would be really easy.

I usually have no problems hitting all 5 colors by turn 5, but thats a bit slow against some decks. Turn 4 is fairly frequent. The fastest I've had this deck go off was turn 3 Time Stretch comboing out before anyone else gets a turn.

Your suggestions are good ones. Jeskai Ascendancy is an all star card, and running Paradox Engine never really occurred to me. I was actually going to use Future Sight and Precognition Field, but I cut them really early on, before the deck really took shape. I should reconsider them and the magus.

On a side note, I'm considering running Enter the Infinite. It has its potential downsides, though.

I got the idea from my previous decks. I used to use Insidious Dreams (in my Oona deck) to set up my Future Sight combo which would allow me to draw out the deck. I doubt it would work here as well as it did there but you might be able to get some ideas. Same goes with my Thrasios-Tymna deck which runs Paradox Engine. You might want to check them out. :)

I like how the deck has been coming along. I've had a jodah deck for a about a month now and I might run a couple of the cards in my deck.

Thanks.

I found a card that might be fun to play with just now.

Worldpurge: Sure, it hits all players, but if you need to use it, that shouldn't matter. Plays well with Teferi's Protection.

What do you all think?

It certainly has nice synergy. My favourite card in my deck is Storm Herd. Won turn 6 with that bad boy.

Well, plus a Titanic Ultimatum but anything that pumps a Storm Herd is good.

Its a good card and it fits here. I just kind of don't want to use it, so its going to chill out in the maybeboard for now.

I used to run Cathars' Crusade and that + Storm Herd wins most games. But I wasn't reliably getting both. Storm herd was good enough on its own to stay in. If you know any tutor under $15 that would be great.

After a bunch of testing,Future Sight and Magus of the Future are in the deck. Thanks Megalomania. They're a lot of fun in this deck.

Hey! Saw your deck in the commander thread. My main suggestions involve your mana base.

The Temples have some utility in the scry but entering tapped is a big drawback. You could look at alternatives such as Hinterland Harbor, Isolated Chapel and the others from that cycle, along with the duals from Battlebond.

Reliquary Tower is always good to have, unlimited hand size never hurts. I saw you mentioned above that your primary wincon is combat damage. A land like Rogue's Passage would help there.

Cheers!

NicS18 The scry is absolutely worth the drawback.

Reliquary Tower doesn't tap for colored mana, and the hand size isn't a problem. I actually utilize my graveyard quite a bit in this deck.

Rogue's Passage doesn't tap for colored mana, and the unblockability not worth the cost. Thassa, God of the Sea is a better option, and I'm not running it either. Anyways,I actually don't prioritize combat damage.

Your mana base suggestions are likely based on my deck description, but what I was looking for was ramp and suggestions on what to cut.

There is no reason that any jodah deck shouldn't be running Expropriate (unless it's centered around Primal Surge, that is). In fact, it's even better in your deck where your focus seems to be instants and sorceries.

While I totally agree with you, I just haven't felt like getting one. Thanks for the suggestion though. I'll add it to the maybeboard even if I'm not likely to bother actually getting one for the deck. That said, if I do get one, its definitely going in.

Hmmm. A Primal Surge Jodah list sounds like it would be a lot of fun to build. I might fiddle around with that idea as an alternate Jodah deck in case this one isn't a good match up for what I am facing.

This looks very interesting; +1. I think it would be very much in favor of your overall tactics to add Prismatic Omen. Adds a nice redundancy for Chromatic Lantern and works great together with Prismatic Geoscope.

Also, I couldn't help noticing that aside from having added Teferi, you're leaving yourself very open to counterspells. Maybe something like Grand Abolisher could be beneficial to you.

August 4, 2018 6:22 a.m.

1empyrean says... #21

I tested both of those at some point and I kind of feel like Prismatic Omen isn't really required for the deck since it doesn't give me mana, and I'm not making much use of the land types part of the card. It ended up getting cut to make room for other things.

Grand Abolisher is great. I know I should already be running it, but just don't know what to swap at this point.

Thanks for the suggestions.

NV_1980 says... #22

Sure enough, Prismatic Omen by itself does not grant you mana, but by granting every other land you have on the battlefield all basic land-types, your lands also inherit all of the mana generation abilities of all basic lands. I almost cannot imagine why this wouldn't be useful in a deck that utilizes Jodah.

August 4, 2018 7:59 a.m.

1empyrean says... #23

It's very good, but I tried to build the deck so that I wouldn't need it or Chromatic Lantern. The reason Lantern is in and Omen is not is because it is ramp. I actually cut Cascading Cataracts for exactly the same reason.

That said, I know I'm being stubborn, and I should be running it for redundancy.

You should run Myojin of Life's Web. I have a friend who uses Grozoth to get Myojin of Life's Web, and just cast a million things.

1empyrean says... #25

I've seen Jodah decks built around using Grozoth, and the deck works fine. In this deck, neither of those cards do much. I have one card that Grozoth can tutor for and only 15 creatures.
