Jörmungandr, The Midgard Serpent

Commander / EDH Counterspell GU (Simic) Tokens

C-GRFQ

Maybeboard

Inspired by Game Knights #42. Game plan is to go wide with tokens.

Step 1 - Cast Koma

First step is using lots of ramp to cast Koma quickly. Koma is vulnerable until it creates its token during the next player's upkeep. Casting it quickly while others are still developing their board (and thus tapped out) is a way to mitigate this. Further protection is provided by Spellskite and Pact of Negation as answers for removal when tapped out from casting Koma.

Step 2 - Protect Koma

Once on board, Koma can protect itself and generate lots of tokens. However, it's is still vulnerable to exile spells. so there are ways to have it gain hexproof like Simic Charm and Swiftfoot Boots. Counterspells provide additional protection.

Step 3 - ???

With Koma on board, it can be copied by cards like Spark Double to increase your token production. Or you could go the traditional Parallel Lives/Adrix and Nev, Twincasters route (my Doubling Season is in another deck). Finally, once you have lots of tokens, finish your opponents off by giving them evasion with cards like Archetype of Imagination.

Step 4 - Profit

In the unlikely (ok, not that unlikely) event that Koma is removed, the commander tax is going to make Koma very difficult to cast. So, the backup strategy is using other token generators like Avenger of Zendikar. Arixmethes, Slumbering Isle can also be used as backup. Since removing its counters is a "may" ability, you can leave 1 counter on it. Then, if a board wipe were to get through, you can cast any spell, remove the last counter, and you will have a 12/12 on board. The fact that it's also ramp is just icing on the cake. Failing that, there is always good ol' Command Beacon

Feedback

IN the few games I have played, this deck seems to do well. However, due to current events I have not had the chance to playtest as much as I would like. So I would appreciate any feedback! My budget is usually no more than $10/card, but is flexible depending on synergy (I was lucky enough to pull a Jeweled Lotus and a Mana Drain from packs)

Note: Disregard the sideboard. It is used for management of the physical deck.
