Tweaked and budget version of LegenVD's Journey to Eternity/Izoni deck. Putting it up here since the fall rotation will probably mean that I will cannibalize this deck, but was really happy with it and wanted it to be saved somewhere :)
Step 1. Fuel that Graveyard.
Stitcher's Supplier
,
Merfolk Branchwalker
, and
Glowspore Shaman
are the primary graveyard enablers in the deck with a one-of copy of
Underrealm Lich
for additional fuel and protections against decking yourself. Most cards in this deck are creatures that synergize with the Izoni, Thousand Eyes + Journey to Eternity combo, or some form of creature based removal like
Kraul Harpooner
and
Ravenous Chupacabra
Step 1b. Ramp?
See a
Llanowar Elves
, Play a
Llanowar Elves
.
Glowspore Shaman
and
Merfolk Branchwalker
can also help you smooth out your draws and make sure you hit your lands. 6 Mana is the magic number in order to cast every creature in the deck. The transformed cave requires 5, plus itself.
Step 2: Get your Recursion Online
Journey to Eternity
is the build-around combo piece in this deck. Once it's transformed, it's nearly impossible to deal with since it is a land.
Plaguecrafter
,
Thrashing Brontodon
, and
Vraska, Golgari Queen
serve as Sacrifice enablers for whatever creature ends up attached to a Journey to Eternity. Journey to Eternity + Thrashing Brontodon
are particularly good together since you can sacrifice the bronto targeting the journey, and by the time the stack resolves, the journey has already transformed!
Step 3:Oops! All 1/1 Insect Tokens!
you can trigger the cave at instant speed which is gross, so if you have the mana and your opponent doesn't realize whats happening and decides to swing in with their team, then you can give them a nasty surprise (as long as you have an
Izoni, Thousand-Eyed
in your graveyard), summoning X 1/1 insects as blockers where X is the number of creatures in your graveyard (by this point, X will be anywhere between 6 and 15) at instant speed! You can then throw izoni in front of an attacker so that she ends up in the graveyard, and you can rinse and repeat to exhaust your opponent of resources and life with your army of buggos. The Legendary rule is also your friend with this combo. With multiple izoni's, you can pull one, kill the one in play, trigger the ETB effect, and then next turn, pull the one you killed, and loop them ad-nauseum. Infinite Bugs! Also I should mention that Izoni's sacrifice ability can be a nice way to generate card advantage and pad your life total, although I find that using the mana to trigger the cave is usually more value.
Additional Mentions:
1 of
Find / Finality
included for recursion in case you need to pull a sacrifice enabler or removal creature from your graveyard. 4 of
Memorial to Folly
for the same reason.
1 of
Vraska, Relic Seeker
because she can win the game by herself.
Mana Base: full playsets of
Overgrown Tomb
,
Woodland Cemetery
, and
Memorial to Folly
in addition to some basics to round out the mana
I'm wondering if I should fudge with the mana base to get blue in there in order to fit
Tamiyo, Collector of Tales
and
Unmoored Ego
Anyways, I really liked building and playing with this deck - let me know your thoughts!
