AvacynAngelofHope: I'm afraid it's probably a bit slow for the deck. This deck doesn't worry too much about taking damage, because I often gain a lot of life by flipping Avacyn while she has lifelink. I also lack consistent card draw (a classical issue of Boros decks) so the loss of card draw and discard every turn is pretty rough on me.

The one place where Solitary Confinement is handy is against infinite combo decks that win with either combat damage or something targeted. I don't worry about that too much, because I can usually beat the combo player to death before they win, but if my meta gets faster I may reconsider!

Thanks for your comment :)

Mark of Asylum vs Rune-Tail, Kitsune Ascendant.

The former is cheaper (mana and $$$) and more reliable (has no life total requirements). But the latter is more general (not just non-combat). And he's a fox. I like foxes. Every deck needs more foxes.

Thoughts?

This is a vicious deck. I can tell that I'd have to try and kill you quick, making diplomacy with other players a must to even stand a chance.

(Slow Clap)Awesome deck. I know someone that is going to enjoy playing it. Thank you. +1

Elspeth, Knight-Errant, Hero of Bladehold, Relic Seeker & Reforge the Soul seem like the four easiest cuts.

Also, Kami of False Hope Kami of Ancient Law fit your sacrifice theme and Illusionist's Bracers combo nicely with Stonehewer Giant and eight other creatures in your deck, including Stoneforge Mystic.

rob_shifflett: Thanks for the comment (and your +1)! The cards you identified are definitely potential cuts. My responses, in order:

Elspeth, Knight-Errant has proven helpful for 1) giving Avacyn a large boost, 2) getting creatures back after Avacyn wipes the field, and 3) giving a non-Avacyn creature flying to hit an opponent with a Sword. I'd prefer to keep her around, but I'll cut her if need be.

Hero of Bladehold is one of the less good creatures in the deck, I agree. The deck has slowly shifted towards being more Voltron than aggro, so she's a hanger-on from an earlier conception of the list. She's probably the easiest cut.

Relic Seeker is never getting the axe. I am playing literally every (playable) equipment tutor, and he pretty frequently hits in the early game to give me access to any equipment in the deck. He's Stoneforge's little brother - and "almost as good as Stoneforge" is good enough for me, haha.

Reforge the Soul is obviously not as good as, say, Wheel of Fortune, but it gives me things to cast in the late-game. I'm playing every card-positive wheel I can get my hands on (and even considering Fateful Showdown, which shows how desperate I am for card draw). The reason for this is that I often run out of cards in hand by perhaps turn 5 (and even faster if I have a Sword of Feast and Famine, ie my janky mana-doubler).

At the moment, the best cuts seem to be Hero of Bladehold and probably Vandalblast (or a land) for the Scroll Tax combo. But then I should add Idyllic Tutor, and your suggestions are very good too. Darn. More cuts will be necessary.

Do you think I should play Rune-Tail, Kitsune Ascendant over Mark of Asylum?

Thank you again!

Mark of Asylum/Dolmen Gate are consistent.

Your description said that you ran several sacrifice outlets to flip Archangel Avacyn  Flip. I'm no expert, but a copy of Ashnod's Altar and Phyrexian Altar could very well be worth it.

Really cool deck, +1

Shakespeare314: Thanks for the +1! I used to run several actual sac outlets, but I've moved to creatures that sacrifice themselves so I don't need to draw into a sac outlet and a creature. I'll still consider Ashnod's Altar, though, since so many costs in the deck are colorless.

New favorite opening hand: T1 Plains and Mana Vault; T2 Stonehewer Giant; T3 tutor for Argentum Armor.

I love this deck. It's getting some updates soon though.

I'd like to see the look on someone's face when they see a T3 Argentum Armor 😂

TzickyT: Soul Sisters isn't really my thing in this deck, but I'm currently building Karlov, who does work well with them! I'll link you when I complete the first draft :)

Vandyel: Thanks for the +1! I really enjoy Avacyn as a commander and I hope she's treating you as well. Feel free to ask any questions if anything's unclear here; I'll always take time to answer questions from a fellow Avacyn player :)

Love-in-Theory: Oh, it's glorious. T2 Stonehewer Giant makes people concede unless they have immediate removal. Even without the Giant in hand, T2 Avacyn can do a number as well.

My favorite opening hand I've ever drawn was T1 Plains, Sol Ring, Boros Signet, Mana Vault, T2 Plains, Sigarda's Aid, Stonehewer Giant where I left 2 mana open to flash in Swiftfoot Boots responding to my opponent's Swords to Plowshares. The first T2 concession I've ever gotten! :D

Have you considered Mistveil Plains? It gives you a way to reuse the same instants with Sunforger

Daedalus19876 says... #16

Vandyel: I've considered both it and Madblind Mountain (to work with Scroll Rack). I am skittish of including another land that ETBs tapped if it only works with a single card in the deck...has it worked well for you?

October 10, 2016 2:19 p.m.

Vandyel says... #17

Daedalus19876: I actually made a different use of it in my last game worth mentioning. Sunforger was destroyed the same turn I played Mistveil Plains. I drew Steelshaper's Gift the next turn, then used Mistveil to place Sunforger back in the deck so I could find it with the gift.

I think any deck that uses tutors/toolbox can benefit from being able to put things back in the deck.

Daedalus19876 says... #18

Vandyel: That's a good point. With the number of tutors I'm playing there's a good chance I'll find it helpful. In it goes!

What are your thoughts on Gamble, speaking of tutors?

October 10, 2016 3:18 p.m.

Vandyel says... #19

Gamble is perfectly named, but it's hard to argue with the potential of a 1 cost unrestricted tutor especially in red. If you can find the room for it, I think it's worth running, just make sure you have a plan B when you cast it.

Temerities: I'll pass - not enough large creatures to justify the inclusion and 8-mana investment - but thank you for your comment (and +1) regardless! :)
