Oh, I almost forgot. I dunno if you've ever played Jeskai (or Zedruu in particular) but if you could look over my deck I would greatly appreciate it!!

It's a Sunforger toolbox right now built for FFA, but I'm wanting to rotate it into a chaos/evil type of deck.

Love-in-Theory: Definitely, I'll take a look as soon as I have some free time :)

Once I upload my Rashmi deck, want to help me out with it as well?

I see that you have a lot of cards dedicated to protection for your creatures, and commander. There is one card however that I think could be one heck of a great alternate win condition: Comeuppance. I have seen that spell absolutely rock someone's world before...and it was in a White Angel\Solder deck. I'd say it's useful if you're a facing a deck that's just plain faster than yours. Wing Shards is also pretty fun, as it can really wreck a big army. Those are my suggestions anyway, +1 for the deck also.

Ocelot44: Shush, you. Lol.

LVL_666: Thanks for the +1! I'll definitely consider it - it can wipe out an opposing army that comes at me, and I can tutor it with Sunforger. I don't currently play against enough voltron decks to make Wing Shards worth it, but I'll consider it if my meta changes.

What are your thoughts of this in here?

He could be ok for pinging damage, though I'm feeling like he would be susceptiable to removal. He can't be grabbed by Sun Titan either which makes me sad. This is from Aether Revolt right? Have you seen Trophy Mage?

Daedalus19876 says... #10

Love-in-Theory: I want to put him in here so that I can bypass Static Orb and Winter Orb (though of course the pinging to remove small blockers is handy).

I've seen Trophy Mage and she's silly good. Alas, not playable here, but in a few of my other decks...

Ocelot44 says... #11

Holy crap! That combo with Static Orb might actually make me want to run those things. Personally, I'm hesitant to run the Orbs because it hinders me as well. It only takes one dickhead at the table running Mind Over Matter to completely ruin your day

Ocelot44: Static Orb is the MVP in this deck. Once I have Avacyn suited up, I simply have to play it and it prevents anyone from dealing with her. I don't even have to untap Avacyn, normally, because she has vigilance.

Plus, Sword of Feast and Famine makes it 100% 1-sided. I highly recommend both Static Orb and Winter Orb in the deck - they're not symmetrical at all if you play them at the right time.

The rebel itself seems like it would be at least decent, but I'm not sure if it's worth replacing anything in your deck right now. But since you ARE running the Static Orb, it couldn't hurt to try

Ocelot44 says... #14

I used to run Smoke and Static Orb in my deck a long time ago because Kalemne, Disciple of Iroas has vigilance as well. Smoke isn't good enough to put back in, but I'd consider running Static Orb again. My problem is that my curve is so dang high it sets me way back

Have you considered Assemble the Legion? It's a nice token generator, just fire and forget, and it comes back from board wipes really well, even if it does have a slow start.

This deck looks stupendous! I really want to try and build something similar but just had a few questions and things to pick your brain with.

How do you think the deck might fair with less self sacrificing creatures and simply more value creatures and ways to recur them i.e. Reveillark, Karmic Guide and the like? Are the Kami of False Hope, Torch Fiend and so on integral to the deck functioning properly or do you think it might be possible to approach it differently by including a few sacrifice outlets like Ashnod's Altar and Goblin Bombardment?

any thoughts on how Chandra, Torch of Defiance might fare in the deck?

Additionally, I just happen to have a Sword of Light and Shadow sitting around looking for a home, it plays into the recursion and equipment theme and seems to make the deck more resilient in general so I think it might be a good fit!

Thanks again for the terrific primer, and many good games to you in the future sir!

Ocelot44: Ooh, Smoke could be a good idea! I forgot that card existed.

CommanderNeyo: I've considered it before, yeah. It's really good in my Adriana deck, but I found it quite a bit too slow in this deck (that plans to swing to kill on T5-6). Regardless, it's an awesome card for commander and I'm actually planning to stick it into a new deck I'm testing out. Thanks for your comment! :)

callmekowalski: I'm so glad my deck could inspire you! . Here are my answers to your questions, in order:

I've found the self-sacrificing creatures to be integral to the deck, because sometimes you just really need your commander to turn into a board wipe (and gain two power, which isn't irrelevant). But I'm curious how a more recursion and value focussed list would turn out! This deck was built to optimize towards explosive speed, but often slow and steady wins the race. If you build it that way, let me know how it goes :)

I will suggest against playing too many sac outlets. My original deck used several (Martyr's Cause, Goblin Bombardment, and Fanatical Devotion in particular), but I found them to be dead too often - I needed to draw both a creature that I wanted to sacrifice and a sac outlet (not to mention that many of them are somewhat disappointing). That's when I switched to the self-sacrificing subtheme in the first place, and it's worked well for me since.

I don't think Chandra, Torch of Defiance would work well here. Actually, I think she's just bad in commander. If you want mana ramp, Koth of the Hammer often works better, and as a source of damage she's kinda underwhelming. She gives you an extra card per turn, I suppose. As with many things, if you try it and it works well, let me know so I can test it too! ;)

Sword of Light and Shadow is awesome here, and I'd definitely find a slot if you have one around. My only real complaint with it is that it makes your auras fall off, and that it prevents you from targeting the equipped creature with Mother of Runes. I think one of the natural switches would be to put it in over Mana Crypt: the card is too expensive (in terms of $$$) for what it does.

I'm glad the primer and deck were helpful! :) And thanks for your comment and +1: if there's anything else you want to ask, or if you want me to take a look at your draft, just let me know - and happy deckbuilding!

No, that card is terrible

Daedalus19876 says... #21

HowlingFoxGPH, Ocelot44: Actually, I could see it being added over Faithless Looting. I have a fondness for that card. But I find it a bit too situational, and it doesn't have Flashback like FL. Thanks for the comment anyway though! :)

Sorry, i keep on suggesting poor cards... however, i actually find them helpful if i have Land Tax in play.. especially Shattered Perception.. nonetheless, those cards played alone are risky and seems to be more trouble than good.. maybe it also depends on my current playgroup. i guess you can sideboard Shattered Perception for multi..it has flashback by the way..

X's: Thoughts on Insolent Neonate? I have not yet tested it yet. Perhaps you might have experience with it?

December 3, 2016 11:52 a.m.

Ocelot44 says... #23

Wait a minute you still run Faithless Looting? Why not just another wheel effect?

December 3, 2016 1:21 p.m.

Daedalus19876 says... #24

HowlingFoxGPH: No worries! Any suggestion is a good suggestion. And speaking of suggestions, Insolent Neonate is interesting! I'd never considered him before, but he has (weak) evasion (so he can carry a sword), and sacs to trigger Avacyn, and gives me draw power...I am very much intrigued! I will try him out, thank you! :)

Ocelot44: Hey, hey. I like Faithless Looting a LOT in this deck. It's one of the best T1 plays for hand sculpting (digging for lands if I have too many spells or vice versa), and has flashback so I can use it again late-game. It's proven itself many times.

In addition...There aren't any other good Wheel effects beyond the ones I'm playing here, and I love the flavor of the card with relation to my commander :)
