PROLOGUE :

So... I've been brewing this deck for quite a bit of time. I didn't know how to make it different from the usual Legacy Phyrexian Dreadnought-Varolz Scavenge deck and the Modern Death's Shadow-Varolz one, but then, one absolutely evil and psychotic idea came up to me : adding Slippery Bogle. From there, the deck was rather simple to build. Here's what I call : "A mere attempt to remove Dark Confidant, Tarmogoyf and Liliana of the Veil from a Jund deck, spiced up with Bogle and Scavenge"

CREATURES :

  • Varolz, the Scar-Striped : He's the core of the deck. You can't play him? Too bad you're done for. You can play him and a Path to Exile comes over? Too bad you're also done for. Nevertheless, giving Scavenge to every creature in the graveyard is an absolute charm. His purpose is to give a second life to your pretty annoying threat Vexing Devil, and to give an actual objective to Death's Shadow. Varolz will pump your creatures up, especially Slippery Bogle.

  • Slippery Bogle : I mean, you've certainly already played against a Bogle deck and know how evil the deck is when you have nothing to stop it. I'm pretty sure it'd be redundant to remind you how Hexproof is truly a pain in the butt.

  • Death's Shadow : Your main Scavenge fuel. Giving 13 +1/+1 counters to Slippery Bogle is really funny (for you). He can also be a pretty decent creature to play if the game extends for too long.

  • Vexing Devil : Playing one of those creatures T1 is a pretty annoying thorn in the foot. Vexing Devil will either remain on the battlefield as a nice 4/3 creature or be sent to the graveyard for a well spent 4 Life (Haha, no.).

  • Putrid Leech : He was the ancient Jund/Golgari superstar, but still remains a very good creature. A 2/2 for 2 with the possibility of being a 4/4 for 2 Life, it's very scary. Also, he helps you reducing your amount of LP so you can cast Death's Shadow at some point in the game.

  • Lotleth Troll : Having the possibility to throw your main Scavenge fuels in the graveyard while pumping itself is just massive advantage. Regenerate is always nice, ALWAYS.

SPELLS :

  • Collective Brutality : The more I look at this card, the more I love it. It synergizes very well with our gather-the-graveyard strategy and allows us to remove those annoying spells that will always try to screw us over Cough Cough Path to Exile Cough Vomit

  • Lightning Bolt : Yeah... That's a Jund deck, what did you expect?

  • Time of Need : The first time Kamigawa was useful to me. Fetches Varolz, the Scar-Striped when sad times happen.

  • Faithless Looting : Allows you to dig through your deck and to fuel your graveyard with creatures/spells you don't really need at times.

  • Rancor & Spider Umbra : We just need to make sure Slippery Bogle is not just destroying creatures. He has to destroy creatures AND your opponent.

ENDING :

I hope you enjoyed the deck ! I think it's refreshing and cancerous and deserves to spread tumors to all your friends and enemies.
