Modern 0-1-2 — Feb. 11, 2020

R1: Mono-red Prowess - 1-2: Lost game 1. Won g2 off of denying a hand emptying play he made because I held up removal to bait it out. Happy that ended up working. Lost g3, not sure what would have happened. I had a good hand, but did not draw my third land out of 6 draws.

R2: Jeskai Spirits (homebrew) 1-1: Won g1 through the classic Jund gameplan. Got semi-lucky to have an instant answer via Lili in hand vs. his Geist of Saint Taft (has hexproof). He won a close g2 off of me not being able to answer the Geist of Saint Taft soon enough. I believe I would have won g3. Turns ended with him at 5 life, with no creatures on board vs. my 1 BBE+ 2 Tarm, and I had card advantage and a bolt in hand.

R3: Slivers 1-2: Won g1 against a good draw by the opponent. They had 3 leeching slivers at one point, which dealt 3 damage per attacking sliver. I held that off and managed to strategically hold back blocks to attack with a board of 2 goyf + 1 BBE. Eventually got Kroxa out to finish the game. Our life totals were both very low. Lost g2 to not drawing my third source of mana. I had a good draw of removal in my opener + a Goyf. But I had 2 three drops in hand as well. When I did not draw into the third source for a couple turns, I lost all the momentum I had gained by dropping a goyf and killing 2 slivers with bolts. G3 was similar to g2. I mulliganed a 1 lander, into a 2 lander (forest + raging ravine) and decided to keep bc if I drew into a single black source then I would have the removal to answer threats plus grow a scavenging ooze. I never drew the black source or 3rd land in general. He won off of that.

Felt that I played well tonight and had favorable matchups in my latter 2 games. Unfortunate that we did not finish R2 and that I got land screwed in R3, but that's magic.
