Sideboard

some_textThis deck has been a mutant evolution of a green black deck i built. My first attempt at a standard deck was a black green graveyard build. While this deck was an epic failure it helped me learn a lot. First things first is my meta is HUGE into control. easily 75 percent of the decks are control. I originally based the list a lot off of matthew costa's jund that one him first place in starcity. As you can see this deck is VERY different then that deck but i did take some of the key elements such as Read the Bones which i believe to be essential. I will be testing this deck at FNM this friday and will provide results. Some numbers are simply based on what i actually have. I know it can see improvement but the goal was to have a deck that can compete against control and devotion decks as well. The Deathrite Shaman Pack Rat split was originally Scavenging Ooze . Like i said i realized how ineffective that card is against control...utterly useless. These cards actually have great synergy off each other and rakdos return AND are huge threats by themselves. My goal was to make a deck that works well together but any of the late game drops should be able to pull a win by themselves. The land base isn't perfect but like i said im going with what i have for now. I would love feedback!

Took this deck to a new shop this past Friday. A bit closer but a metagame where i had no idea what to expect. Winner took home a box so i figured it would be a good time. Fifteen people total in the tournament and i ended up taking first.

Before I break down to results of my gameplay I want to take a minute to talk about the changes to the deck, as well as possible new considerations. I added in a fourth demon that i picked up via trade before the tournament. Realistically i would like to run at least a third Stormbreath Dragon and maybe even a fourth. The playset of Desecration Demon is not going anywhere without a doubt. Possible cards i am thinking about adding in are Chandra, Pyromaster and Courser of Kruphix for insane card draw. My mixed feelings come down to the fact that nobody is going to try and counter Read the Bones because of the 2 life loss. (at least in my encounters) and the courser and chandra are much easier to get downfalled etc but if they stabalize its a much stronger route.

The first two match ups were a piece of cake. A lot of people playing homebrews.(along with me) I played a black green midrange deck for the first match which wasnt much of a challenge. Not to much to say as it was not very impressive. Won 2-0

Second match up was Green red Aggro. First game wrecked him. Second game mulliganed from a one land hand with a blood crypt to a one land hand with a Mutavault. Other then the shitty luck it was easy. Went 2-1

Third match was against esper control. Easiest my favorite and easiest match even easier then the homebrews. I stomped him. Thoughtseize first turn into predicting easily exactly how he was going to play. Post board was even more hilarious. Slaughter Games the revelation, along with vraska and then Sire Of Insanity was just retarded. Control is this decks strong point for sure match up wise. Won 2-0

Final match up was against black white midrange. This was clearly the most even match. I lost the first game but managed to come out on top for the last two. Trying to race blood baron with my stormbreath was not fun at all but i managed to draw more removal.(my removal package is a lot larger to be fair) and stabilized a demon with a stomrbreath. I shocked myself down to one to make stormbreath monstrous and won a couple of turns later. 2-1

Update March 10th

Since my last post i have had the chance to play this deck in two events. One more FNM standard event and one BOTG game day event.

Second FNM results:

First match up was against simic midrange. A rampy combo like deck with Kiora's Follower and kiora. I won 2-0. The deck was good, but it was just too easy to drastically slow it down with my removal.

Second match was boros born/midrange. This was an interesting match. Not much of a promblem. Lots of Thoughtseize on top of his bad draws make for a happy jund ^-^. Won 2-0.

Third match up was against mono black devotion. I ended up going 1-2. First two matches were really even. And the last match i pretty much lost because of drawing into three Sylvan Caryatid in a row. Top decks against mono black are really hard to beat. Doesn't matter how many defenders you have with a gary coming it for 15-20 damage.

Fourth match up was against esper control and i went 1-2 as well. I could have won this match up but i made an essential counterspell misplay. After knocking myself out of a top position i was in a funk and did not play as well. Most likely could have won the match if i had not played rakdos return when i knew he had a counterspell like a dumby.

Game day:

Overall i went 2 and 1 in this event only losing to the same esper player. Wins were against black green midrange and green blue white control. On personal reflection i might need to buff the deck up against mono black/esper especially post sideboard. Total stats of the deck are currently 8-3. Only loses to esper and mono black.
