A Dark and Self-Sacrificial Deck. Aiming to kill your creatures for a greater purpose and to watch their life drain to a lowly ZERO. This is a fun deck, with a good amount of strategy and thinking. If death and a morbid way of playing is your style, then look no further than this.
Creatures and why.
Blood Artist - I really can't say enough about Blood Artist. A godly 2 drop in my books and works amazingly with the death concept of the deck. Just watch as he makes their life....yours.
Cartel Aristocrat - She is probably my favourite uncommon in the Gatecrash set, maybe even the RTR block. Virtually unblockable if you choose your colors right and has amazing syngery with Archangel of Thune (see below for my details]].
Doomed Traveler - This guys sole purpose is to basically die. Whether it is chump blocking, sacrificing him to Cartel Aristocrat or attacking freely until death. He is meant to die, and die he does.
Voice of Resurgence - Easily the most expensive cards in this deck but it well worth it. Quite arguably the best card in Standard at this moment, he comes in and makes more tokens to kill off or attack with. An endless supply of killing for the bettering of your creatures and your life.
Deathrite Shaman - Normally a sideboard card but with Scavenging Ooze coming into play and his synergy with Archangel of Thune he will see a lot more mainboard play. He can counter an exile by Scavenging Ooze and you will gain life and counters from it. Also helps in fights with control decks.
Archangel of Thune - The newest addition to the Aristocrats, and my favorite card of the m14 Set. This card synergizes so well with Blood Artist, Deathrite Shaman, Cartel Aristocrat, and Sorin, Lord of Innistrad. I honestly can't say enough about her. You sac a creature with Cartel Artistrocrat choose a color (say green), trigger Blood Artist, the gain of a life then triggers Archangel of Thune, all your creatures gain +1/+1 counters and Cartel Aristocrat swings for 3, going higher every turn. Also, having Sorin's little lifelink vampires means more counters for everyone else.
Skirsdag High Priest - This guy is in love with death. He wants something to die so you can create a 5/5 Demon with flying. The tokens are the best way to do that. Turn 3 Demon? Don't mind if I do.
Young Wolf - Undying. Triggers. Counters. Need I say more?
Obzedat, Ghost Council - Purely a strong card that gains you life and takes your oppenents. Also triggers Archangel of Thune every time he comes into play.
Sideboard.
Blood Baron of Vizkopa A mirror match delight. Pro-black and pro-white with lifelink. Nasty!
Varolz, the Scar-Striped - His scavenge is just a cherry on top. A extra slice of pie. A highlarious plus if you kill off Obzedat and Scavenge onto Cartel. He is really here for his Sacrifice. He becomes a great offensive/ defensive weapon if you know how to use him and his abliity.
Sin Collector - Good agianst those pesky control and burn decks. Great card from Gatecrash.Planeswalkers.
Sorin, Lord of Innistrad Tokens, Lifelink and Emblems! Oh my!
Sideboard.
Garruk Relentless Tokens, Deathtouch and Sacrificing! Oh my!
Vraska the Unseen Destroying things since 2013 (so not very long).
Spells.
Tragic Slip -1/-1 if nothing died. Fairly good, kills off those annoying one drops early game. -13/-13 morbid effect. Just a beautiful thing to see.
Lingering Souls Two 1/1 Spirits with flying and has flashback? Where do I sign!!!?? A possible 16 spirits for attacking, defending, or even sacrificing and triggering blood artist.
Sideboard
Aburpt Decay - Kills off the Bant Hexproof enchantments that people seem to love so much.
Celestial Flare - Possibly my favourite common from m14, use it during combat, or after combat. It just works. Also gets around hexproof.
Golgari Charm -1/-1 to all creatures? Okay, I like that. Regenerate a creature? I like that too. Destroy target enchantment? I like that too!!! Holy Cow Batman, I like this card. (sorry I had too)
Path of Bravery My second favourite card from m14. The first half of this card Glorious Anthem is good, I like +1/+1 on all my creatures, but the second part....DAMN!! Swing with 4 spirits, gain four life, swing with 8? Well you get the drill, it is an amazing card and probably going to be slightly underrated.
Land.
Now I won't touch on the shocklands, just because we all know why they are in this deck.
Vault of the Archangel This is Archangel of Thune's best friend now. Give all those tokens lifelink? Thank you! and Deathtouch? Double Thank you!
Gavony Township This card is almost ready to be taken out for another Vault. It is not as good as Archangel of Thune and costs the same amount of mana use as it does to get the angel out. It is good, don't get me wrong, but not as useful as Archangel of Thune.
- This is not my deck idea, as most of may well know, I got it from Brad Nelson. Not the man himself but off STG website. (http://admin.starcitygames.com//deckdatabase/displaydeck.php?DeckID=56296) I just took and added some cards in and out. I hope you enjoy :)
