This combo deck marks the return of Bolas's Citadel and features several nifty little interactions.
Wolfwillow Haven and Gift of Paradise make up our ramp base, to make Bolas's Citadel (BC) playable as soon as possible. They also provide fodder for BC's second ability and will stick through most board wipes. Additionally, Gift of Paradise has the important feature of gaining back as much life as it would cost to cast with BC.
Dryad of the Ilysian Grove makes sure we always have the right color of mana to spend and also, very importantly, allows us to play additional land that would otherwise stop the casting chain from BC. Great blocker to boot!
Doom Whisperer provides virtually endless surveillance as a means to dig up your BC as well as filter lands off the top deck. Also a great body for combat! Only reason I'm not running four copies is that this bad boy can take quite the toll on your life total when you cast it with BC. On the bright side the adds extra beef to...
Gray Merchant of Asphodel is a great option for chipping your opponent down to that key 10 life before activating Bolas's Citadel second ability. Oh and providing life gain for yours truly (minimum of 5 with BC in play).
Charming Prince is perhaps the hidden gem of this deck, providing an early means to scry for your key pieces and the choice to either gain back the life it cost to cast with BC, scry land off the top deck, or why not blink your Gray Merchant of Asphodel for a nasty little synergy?
Knight of Autumn comes with another set of ETB choices that might just buy you a few rounds. Anyone ever need to get rid of a Fires of Invention or Embercleave these days???
Omen of the Sun serves several key purposes. One is to provide chump blockers in the early game, and the ability to scry doesn't hurt in a pinch. Also importantly, this card contributes three bodies towards the goal of 10 for BC. And it gives back life. What's not to love?
The single copy of Loxodon Lifechanter is a choice of flavor. He might kill your BC streak, or he might turn your game from zero to hero. You never know! If you like to live life less dangerously, I suggest a copy of Centaur Nurturer, Paradise Druid or perhaps Cauldron Familiar in stead.
Suggestions are always welcome.
Have fun!
