This deck went 4-0 at FNM on 6/7/13
The side board was glorious even though I never faced a control or bant deck. I did however face a few things where my side board dominated and my main crushed my opponents.
Round 1:
My opponent played R/U - Izzet (Round 1: 2W-0L)
-
Match One: On the play. I drew one land in 7, no plays first hand, I mulled. I drew 6 cards, no lands, mulled. 5 cards, 2 land and a turn 1 play. My first turn was Young Wolf, followed by Cartel Aristocrat, and Unflinching Courage. My opponent's deck was honestly not very competitive. He really wanted his Goblin Electromancer cards and wanted to teleporter all his creatures. But he couldn't stop all my creatures going through him.
-
Match Two: Basically the same as the first game. Easy win.
Round 2:
My opponent played R/G/U - Petal to the Medal (Round 2: 2W-1L)
Probably the 2nd most competitive player all night. I thought his strategy with his cards was interesting and different, which is pretty respectful.
Round 3:
My opponent played G/B - Fog? (Round 3: 2W-0L)
-
Match One: My opponent started. He played Avacyn's Pilgrim, then he did nothing else... I used Farseek and Murder and Fog... I guess he was supposed to kill me using Avacyn's Pilgrim? lol I totally used Tragic Slip on it before it could do anything lol
-
Match Two: Exactly the same. He apparently just wasn't drawing cards, but still I saw 4x Fog match two... Victory? lol
Round 4:
My opponent played R/W/G - Naya Blitz Humans/Werewolf (Round 4: 2W-1L)
Definitely this was the most competitive deck of the night, however, Naya Humans can't handle the Junk in Ur Trunk!
-
Match One: So close to winning this game and having it taken from me. I put Unflinching Courage on a Lingering Souls spirit that got ultimately dominated by 2 Huntmaster of the Fells
Flip triggers because he used his Restoration Angel on the Huntmaster. He then used his Unflinching Courage on the Restoration Angel and secured his victory by gaining life and trampling my spirits while making enough humans to outnumber my Voice of Resurgence tokens. I lose game 1.
-
Match Two: I sided in Putrefy for creature removal, Appetite for Brains for **(Restoration Angel, Huntmaster of the Fells
Flip, and possibly a Zealous Conscripts. I think he had to mull down to 5 this game. I got the jump on him. I really messed him up when I got my Skirsdag High Priest out. There was one time where he was about to attack and then was like, "Oh hell no!" lol I had Vault of the Archangel sitting back with me while I made 2 demons to get so much life and take away any chance of victory while bringing him low. He had nothing on me! I even left his Champion of the Parish get 12 counters on him before he decided to attack where I then used Putrefy lol
-
Match Three: He started and as an agro player, he had a super slow start. He mulled to 6 and didn't play anything til turn three. This was perfect! Why? This was my starting hand: Sorin, Lord of Innistrad, 2 Putrefy, Appetite for Brains, Golgari Charm, and my 2 lands for the 3 colors. My turn 2, I used Appetite for Brains, goodbye Huntmaster of the Fells
Flip! Turn 3 he summoned Avacyn's Pilgrim and Thalia, Guardian of Thraben (who was a total jerk against my deck, especially game 1 before I sided out my Advent of the Wurm and Gather the Townsfolk). My turn 3, Golgari Charm for -1/-1. Later, all he had left was his 2nd Frontline Medic after I've putrefied the living crap of his first Frontline Medic and his Silverblade Paladin. All the while I'm using Cartel Aristocrat and Lingering Souls with Voice of Resurgence and my Sorin, Lord of Innistrad. He put Unflinching Courage on his medic in hopes to win. I ripped a 2nd Golgari Charm, goodbye enchant! Game over! Winner!
Overall:
I was super super super excited and exhilarated at how good the deck did! I knew the deck could compete with the best and it definitely shut down a pretty good Naya Blitz deck without too much effort. I learned a lot from my mistakes while testing and playing this deck before and that helped me win so much. While I didn't face Bant or Control, I'm fairly confident that this deck can and will compete in standard until the next rotation.
