I went 2-0-1 (draw in) last Saturday in a small T2 tournament. Then beat my top 4 opponent and drew with the other guy for 1st and 2nd.

First round I played against my worst match-up, B/W/U control with only aetherlings and augurs for my removal to hit. Luckily, I didn't draw any of my removal and kept a hand of 3 lands, voice, obzedat, lifebane zombie, and unflinching courage. He played Augur of bolas, a supreme verdict, and that was it so I won pretty easily. Second game I drew duress and double sin collector with a voice and 3 lands. I played duress turn one to find his hand had jace again, supreme verdict, a blood baron of vizkopa, and lands....lands that didn't tap for black. So I took the jace, then the verdict with a sin collector. He never drew a land that tapped for black so I won pretty easily.

Second round I played vs RWB aristocrats. Game one I dominated with a lifebane zombie that had unflinching courage on it. He tried to race with reckoner and lots of spirit tokens but couldn't keep up. Game two was a nail biter with us both drawing and playing 2 obzedat's after I wiped his board with golgari charm. In the end I forced us to trade his obzedat and two tokens for my obzedat with unflinching courage on it with him at 5 life and me at 30-something. (neither of us had any cards in hand) I drew a doomed traveler and cartel aristocrat for the win to swing past his double falkenrath aristocrats.

Round 3 I drew with a friend who I knew was playing Naya Midrange (one of my very best matchups). Top 4 I ending up playing against him anyways. I kept a hand of lifebane zombie and unflinching courage. He didn't draw a searing spear so a 5/3 unblockable lifelinking dude got there once again. Game two I drew a lot of removal with tragic slips, doom blades, and abrupt decays while I swung in with a couraged up aristocrat and spirit tokens. I didn't mess up and name pro green so I won pretty handily.

I split with the other top 4 winner. A deal I was happy to take seeing as he was playing mono-black zombies splashing green for garruk relentless and vraska. Something that most of my removal and lifebane zombies are useless against.

I built this deck in such a way that I think can counter a lot of the popular decks. The shop that I play at is very competitive and a lot of people show up with just the most popular decks that have been winning big events lately.

I wanted to shy away from the junk aristocrats, graveyard oriented decks that when I played I found to be inconsistent and very draw dependent.

Instead I went with a more removal-heavy deck, which in turn, means my match-up versus a low-creature control deck is weak.

I chose a 4th abrupt decay over a 4th Tragic Slip because it's more effective versus Bant Hexproof(which two people were playing at the event but I never played against), and overall more consistent early-game when I may not have creatures I want to lose.

Golgari charms are just really really versatile cards. It straight up wrecks RWB Aristrocrats with the -1/-1. It gets rid of the super powerful enchantments I can't handle like Assemble the Legion, Unflinching Courage on an unblockable dude, etc. Lastly, it helps out in control match-ups where I find that a lot of people are main-decking 4x supreme verdicts instead of terminus when I can regenerate. Regenerating all my creatures also helps versus R/G aggro decks.

Scavenging Ooze is an awesome card in most match-ups, I take it out vs control.

I originally had 4x Lifebane Zombie's maindeck because I saw soo many people playing green or white heavy decks. The fact that it's often just reads "unblockable" is also really great.

The sideboard is to patch up the deck vs the outlying decks that aren't as popular right now, or just to dominate the mirror.

The Sin Collector's and Duress' come in vs control, epic experiment, etc.

Lifebane Zombie comes in vs G/W Township, any Junk deck, mono-white.

Blood Baron comes in vs the mirror, or if I run into the random B/W deck. This is the greatest weakness my deck has, it only has a big Scavenging Ooze as an answer to Blood Baron.

Doomblades come in vs anything that doesn't play black. (and some that do)

Bramblecrush I bring in vs control most of the time depending on what type of control it is. It hits planewalkers that cost over 3cc. Enchantments that are really strong, Maze's end, etc...
