"It has potential, although I don't know if building out of the refuse of the past is the best way to construct the future."
- Tycho

For a while I've been playing on and off with this, my favorite color shard, and for the most part it looked a lot like earlier versions of Ghost Dad's Circus Stampede. I finally feel like it's evolved enough to start tracking progress here.

Basic Summary:
A midrange deck, with multiple forms of lifegain to survive a heavy aggro meta. Early ramping paves the way for heavy hitters and shenanigans alike, while multiple Angel of Serenity provide a "clean" endgame.

Deck Breakdown:

  • Angel of Serenity wrecks opposing board states and helps recover my own. Seeing multiple in a given game tends to seal victory. Also cleanly deals with Voice of Resurgence and Boros Reckoner .
  • Avacyn's Pilgrim and Farseek serve as the deck's ramp. Mostly to help get past early game stumbling, though the color fixing helps. I hate seeing multiples in a given game, but consider it a necessary evil for reliably hitting four or five mana.
  • Blood Baron of Vizkopa is a decent lifelinker, even better against things he has protection from.
  • Centaur Healer and Loxodon Smiter make for decent roadblocks. Healer's got the guaranteed boost, while Smiter hits harder on the offensive.
  • Disciple of Bolas is quite evil with the above three drops. Mayhaps a guilty pleasure, so far they've treated me well.
  • Garruk Relentless   rides with his own wolfpack and can provide backup for the three other hard removal spells in the deck. I'd like to find a second slot for him due to the latter reason.
  • Garruk, Primal Hunter loves to draw me cards. The Beasts are nothing to scoff at either.
  • Obzedat, Ghost Council gives fatherly advice in between attempts to duck out of blocking duties (probably to attend NO MA'AM meetings) in the friend zone. They rock on the offensive, and it never hurts to put a doom counter over someone's head.
  • Restoration Angel saves butts and shows up more often at end of turns than crimson Spaniards. Centaurs and Dads can be blinked for more life; Disciple if I'm getting hungry; and Thrugtusk for all of the above (his flavor is pain).
  • Selesnya Charm provides a guy capable of trading with small aggressive creatures and erases the larger things. While not against 3-4 powered creatures, I think the rest of the deck is capable of contending with them. The combat buff doesn't hurt either.
  • Sorin, Lord of Innistrad provides life from the blood of my enemies, many swords emblazoned with his emblem, and plenty of minions to do my dirty work.
  • Thragtusk thrags up the opposition's plans. Seriously, all that's holding this guy back from the likes of Jace, the Mind Sculptor and Storm Crow is the lack of shooting fireballs from his eyes and lightning from his arse. Oh, and being blue.
  • Vault of the Archangel changes games. Have you ever seen a lowly Vampire token kill a Reckoner? It's not pretty.

Sideboard Breakdown:
  • Abrupt Decay is for when I need more defense faster. Can also catch Ringers off guard.
  • Golgari Charm strategically does what Curse did, cheaper, while providing backup against wrath effects and enchantments (I'm looking at you, Bant Pants!).
  • Ratchet Bomb is the closest thing to a wrath spell here. It takes out tokens, slows down aggro decks, and gives me a means to hit anything with enough time.
  • Rest in Peace hurts Zeds and Frites alike, as well as shutting off flashback and 'die' effects. My Angels can endure the drawback.
  • Triumph of Ferocity forces the control decks to step up their game. If I have board presence, it's likely I have card advantage.

Whelp, I suppose that's about it. My biggest concerns at this point would be maybe squeezing in another Relentless and additional removal. We'll see how that fares. Constructive commentary's always welcome!

Thanks for looking / reading!

Updates Add

I really wish I'd kept up with the updates before rotation. Took quite a few more Top 8s than I've got listed here, and had a great run overall.

This deck has really stood out to me as a testament to my playstyle - using lots of repetitive smaller effects (mostly the planeswalkers and EtBs) to keep things going while an over-arching inevitability (Angel of Serenity) looms overhead.

Good times, my friend. And rest in peace.
