If he's gonna be your general, he can't be.

Your general must be a "Legendary" creature type.

if youre going to make an EDH for tournament play than no deal on your beginner, BUT it is a casual format so as long as the play group is ok with it youre golden. As far as the gimmick type EDH of being extremely cheap, considering the all colors available thing with ur general, heres what I would throw at it:1x Searing Spear 1x Shock 1x Pillar of Flame 1x Possibility Storm 1x Doom Blade and just basically CHEAP cards. possibility storm can really help but its a 1 in a 100 shot.

For those of you suggesting a different general...

I'm not sure how it slipped past me that he wasn't legendary. I was on the gatherer and searched for legendaries and he came up, so I didnt even think about it lol. I will change that for sure.

Realdruid Thanks for the suggestions. I have a Zegana deck already and I agree that Simic colors offer a wide range of cheap and effective cards. For sake of a different deck, I may try out a bant deck with cheap flyers or something. What do you think?

chandlerwrx06 Thanks, man! Are you suggesting a Red/black deck? I could see that working since burn spells are almost always cheap and effective. I just worry about burn's success in EDH. Maybe I'm wrong in worrying?

A lot of lifegain cards are both cheap and good. I'm a big fan of Shattered Angel . Viridian Emissary is decent and cheap because he doesn't sac himself. Crib Swap and Faith's Fetters are also dirt cheap removal...if you have enough aura removal Totem-Guide Hartebeest is awesome (he can also tutor up beatdown auras).

Those are all fantastic suggestions! Thank you so much Fork of Doom

I will gladly try to find a place for all these things as I come closer to finding out my main strategies in this deck. Keep 'em coming, all!

Cheapest EDH that works. Ashling the Pilgrim and 99 lands

@chichirobov2 Lol! Okay, if I decide to make a budget EDH deck that I'm not worried about strategizing and coming up with awesome combos for, that is DEFINITELY going to be it. xD

@lil_cheez Thank you! I was afraid I'd have to resort to just basics for this build!

The key in EDH isn't power, but rather utility. Every spell you play should fulfill as many roles as possible. Creatures without abilities that help you in the long run are usually pretty lackluster. Cards like Viridian Emissary are decent in EDH because they can deal a bit of damage and ramp you. Cards like Centaur Healer are pretty bad in EDH because 3 life is a drop in the bucket, and a 3/3 is going to be outclassed fairly quickly in most games.

And to answer your previous question, almost all burn spells are pretty bad in EDH. Spells like Shock and Lightning Bolt are almost unplayable. If you want to use burn in EDH, it has to be on a card like Bonfire of the Damned or Devil's Play , which both have the potential to do enough damage to remove a threat from the field or finish off a player who has more than 3 life remaining.

Also Command Tower is fairly expensive compared to the rest of the cards in your deck.

Yeah, I threw the Centaur Healer in there when it popped into my head. It'll get removed. I wasn't aware of the cost of command tower. Thanks for the head's up!

This seems to be heading towards a sort of ramp deck with lifegain. The lifegain might get removed eventually, but I'd like to try to keep it in as long as synergy remains. Do you have any ideas for super cheap ramp cards that just might not be as good as the expensive ones, but still playable?

July 29, 2013 9:11 p.m.

Spootyone says... #15

I should explain what cheap means to me in this deck.

I'd like to keep as many cards under a dollar as possible. I understand some will just HAVE to be more than that for this to do anything decent, but I'd definitely like to keep cards under 3 dollars in that case. Thank you again, all, for the help!

Don't mention it! I have some more suggestions, also: Protection from Creatures is highly revelant in EDH. Spirit Mantle , Holy Mantle and Unquestioned Authority . As your general works with auras, I think they'll fit well to the deck. Just be careful with Bruna, Light of Alabaster !
Also, Collective Voyage is fun to play in EDH, but I don't know its price.

July 29, 2013 9:25 p.m.

Spootyone says... #17

Those are all fantastic choices. I really do like Collective Blessing , but it appears to be roughly 2 bucks (SO EXPENSIVE!! :P) so I'll put it in the maybeboard for now and probably just bring it in later.

Fork of Doom says... #18

The list looks solid, but at about 40 dollars (tappedout didn't find all the card prices) it could be a bit cheaper. I've seen lists for 20 or 30

July 29, 2013 10:29 p.m.

Fork of Doom says... #19

Okay my bad, I was price checking the maybe board along with the whole deck. It's actually about $25.

July 29, 2013 10:32 p.m.

Spootyone says... #20

Yeah, I hear ya. Once I get a full deck I'll begin trying to make as much cost-friendly cuts as possible to achieve something close to the deck's title. I just have a lot of cards for a dollar or two right now that I want, but might not be able to keep in for their high (lol) cost.

July 29, 2013 10:33 p.m.

Spootyone says... #21

Oh! Well, in that case, I'm very much happy with how this is turning out hahaha

July 29, 2013 10:34 p.m.

Your base of enchantments is really sad for your commander. You only have 7 that will actually be going on him, which is really completely possible to miss all of them in a game.

Krayhaft says... #23

Pretty cool deck you have so far. I like the idea you're going with.

If you're still going white, you need board wipes. Hour of Reckoning , Phyrexian Rebirth , Harsh Mercy , March of Souls , Planar Cleansing , Sunblast Angel , Soulscour , and Sunscour are all less than a dollar.

July 30, 2013 8:38 a.m.

Spootyone says... #24

@UGplayerWillie After looking at things again, you're probably correct. I was thinking of re-adding holy mantle. Are there any other good auras for under a dollar that you could recommend?

@Krayhaft I'm surprised so many wraths are cheap! I'll be adding Planar Cleansing for sure. And Sunblast Angel is also great since it is a big card I can ramp into with evasion. Love it! I also want to play Soulscour , but I think killing everyone's lands might get me booted from the game :P

Ok, what I can think of are:

So, the cards I listed here are mainly mana ramp cards and artifact/enchantment hate cards. Land ramp helps speed up plays and also helps thin out your deck to get better cards. Artifact/ enchantment hate is a must in EDH, because if you can't get through their stuff, you'll be a sitting duck.

I also included some extra lands that you may be interested in. Well, if you want more advice let me know and I'll see if i can suggest more for you.
