Just a few suggestions:
- Strionic Resonator: Copy Kaalia, copy everything.
- Bladewing the Risen/Utvara Hellkite: Not many dragons, but you may end using it nonetheless.
- Warstorm Surge/Where Ancients Tread: Instant burn
- Master of Cruelties/Sorin Markov + Wound Reflection: Instant kill.

Let me know what you think!

Hey there! Sorry for the delay in my response. Thanks for your feedback!

  • Strionic Resonator: It's a consideration, but I'm not sure there's too much that I can copy.
  • Bladewing the Risen/Utvara Hellkite: I've only four other Dragons, so their abilities aren't too worth it. I try to avoid "when X attacks" effects like Utvara's, since the creatures come in attack and often don't live long.
  • I do have a foil Master of Cruelties coming in. I'll test it out when I get the chance to play.
  • As for the other cards, I try to avoid expensive, board-state dependant effects. I feel that by the time i manage to hard-cast them, I'll already have a field presence. It'd rather protect them or refill my hand.

I've found that Legion's Initiative is a better version of Ghostway in most matchups, as its effect is un-counterable (unless Voidslime or Stifle is cast and lets be honest if they have either of those your kaalia is going to eat those anyway) while buffing your team. It doesn't have the surprise factor that Ghostway has, which means something, but typically your going to run into a counter when you try to "plaguewind" them. So the onus is on them meaning a single Wrath of God isn't going to get them out and usually LI is cheap enough to go un-countered. Another card that always makes my deck is Council's Judgment. It's a must in these decks as its one of the best removal spells for un-targetable permanents. For lands (i know your ability to add them is limited) having targeted land destruction is very important so Wasteland, Ghost Quarter, and Tectonic Edge are, in turn, very important; Gaea's Cradle, Rishadan Port, Maze of Ith, and Mystifying Maze are just to name a few. If you put those lands in, then Crucible of Worlds plays pretty well.

Another potent strategy Ive seen some Kaalia players go with is Winter Orb, land locking your opps out since you cheat things in anyways with your commander. Another one is Catastrophe giving you the ability to either wipe the board if you're behind or if you're ahead wiping the lands.

Master of Cruelties could auto-snipe the person you're dueling against. kaalia's ability nullifies his attacking alone problem when she swings

Remove feldon and just put aggravated assualt. Goes inf with sword. Winter orb and nether void are also solid.

I've got a few suggestions here. First of all, I don't see Rakdos, Lord of Riots doing much for you. However, Rakdos the Defiler, while he won't attack after being put into play, he usually causes a player to concede.

Patriarch's Bidding will get back a lot of your threats for cheap.

Rogue's Passage will usually keep Kaalia safe from combat damage.

Personally I would take out Council's Judgment for Anguished Unmaking

A few cards I run in my Kaalia deck (Multitack Kaalia Stomp...Or Fly?) are such artifacts as Temporal Aperture and Dragon Arch and some creatures such as Yosei, the Morning Star (for board control), Scourge of the Throne (for extra battle phases), Indulgent Tormentor (for council control effetcs), and Emancipation Angel (to return your extra attackers back to hand).

Have you thought of adding "Land Tax, Scroll Rack, Dolmen Gate, Kokusho, the Evening Star, or Yosei, the Morning Star?

July 7, 2016 2:17 a.m.

AlexRuzhyo says... #11

If my deck ran more basic I would consider Land Tax, though it was pretty underwhelming in some of the other decks I tried it in. It ensures you hit your land drops but can be a dead card a decent amount of the time.

Scroll Rack doesn't seem like it'd do too much work in the deck. It burns through it's hand pretty quickly, so refilling is more beneficial that cycling through. It might have some decent synergy with Top of the Wheels but finding a spot would be rough.

Both Dolmen Gate and Iroas, God of Victory were in the deck at one point or another but they didn't seem to do much. Kaalia was either active on the board or ate some kind of removal. Blocks were never quite an issue leaving menace and damage prevention kind of dead.

The Kamigawa dragons are underwhelming without sac outlets or fierce recursion. They've no immediate impact on the board state and need to be built around to abuse properly.

Your avg. CMC really isn't that bad at all! I'm excited to test this out!

Once I mess around with this, I'll see if I can come up with any suggestions!

freakingShane says... #13

Actually, I have something right off the bat. What about Rogue's Passage? In the off chance that you get Master of Cruelties off, making him unblockable through some means is nAaAaAsTy! Haha.

Anyway, just food for thought, at the moment!

P.S. When I went to submit this, it says Passage is under consideration or something, so, in this case I just want to reiterate it and help promote this card! In all honesty, it is useful with multiple cards you have, so all in all, is recommended it!

AlexRuzhyo says... #14

Yeah, Rogue's Passage was something that gets suggested a lot. I might break down and try it out. It's difficult to fit in another utility land, as greedy as this mana base is, so it's difficult to make a cut.

If you had to swap a land, I would suggest either Hall of the Bandit Lord or Vault of the Archangel. I definitely see where you are going with these, but I feel like unblockability is more supplemental than the possible haste for Kaalia or the "nice to have" deathtouch/lifelink.

As you absolutely know, however, you can totally snub my suggestions! It's completely up to you!

Hello,

First off really love the deck and am currently testing it out in my playgroup.

I had a question. I read the part about the Austere command, but I am still confused as to why you use merciless eviction over Austere command.

AlexRuzhyo says... #17

Hey there! Glad you like the deck, and thanks for the upvote!

I chose Merciless Eviction over Austere Command for a few reasons.

  1. Exiling Merciless Eviction to Chrome Mox provides more mana flexibility.

  2. It hits planeswalkers.

  3. It's a bit more selective. Command requires two modes to be selected, and it often caused a bit more collateral damage than I wanted.

  4. It exiles rather than destroys. Destroying often means nothing when facing reanimators and recursion.

  5. It answers stolen a Avacyn, Angel of Hope. I've not found reason enough to run Homeward Path in my meta, but running Merciless Eviction is a decent "compromise", I guess.

I'd like to have both, but the mulligan rule change and and already high curve forced me to cut one of them.

August 9, 2016 6:28 p.m.

Greetings again. Thanks for the response. I was also wondering if you put mother of runes on this list twice on purpose or if there was another card that took up this slot.

If your looking for creatures to add I would add Archangel of Thune or swap out Rakdos, Lord of Riots for her. She's not as destructive as the rest of the creature in the deck, but her supporting everyone else and powering them up, would make this deck go nuts, especially with this deck focusing on extra combat phases.

Really nice build, +1 all day

Sorry for being a newb but can you explain the turn 2 kaalia?

September 24, 2016 3:34 p.m.

AlexRuzhyo says... #24

No problem. There are three ways, I think.

  • Land into a Sol Ring or Mana Crypt and a 2 CMC mana rock.

  • Land a Mox into a 2 CMC mana rock.

  • Land into a Sol Ring or Mana Crypt with a Moxen.

The second land on turn two should get you 4-5 mana.

Hello

I really like the deck and im going to use a few of ur ideas in my own kaalia deck. But if ur debaiting on taking out Aggravated Assault or Sword of Feast and Famine id think i good replacement would be Demon of Death's Gate or maybe even a Scroll Rack.

I like the demon because hes just a big, fat 9/9 trample. And ppl will just look at you when u put him in.

I also say Scroll Rack because you run 7 fetches (if i counted correctly) and u can just lut the bad cards away, such as lands u dont need, and get basicly a new hand. Then fetch it all away and probably get something better.

If you would like to look at my deck for any new ideas Kaalia Rules All. And also please let me know what you think of mine. But i really like the deck. +1 from me.
