I know 104Euros is quite much! But remember: Good decks cost about 200-300 and pro decks about 400-500$!!!

I get a conflicted feeling about this deck when I see things like Bloodstained Mire and Jund Panorama side-by-side. Are you willing to spend more to make further improvements or have you made sacrifices to include some of these cards?

The deck seems like it'd be more of a Tariel, Reckoner of Souls build instead of a Kaalia of the Vast , you'd also be less likely to be targeted right away (few people like Kaalia facing them down since she can sneak out some scary bombs).

While it is logical to upgrade a deck piece-by-piece, I don't think your particular approach makes complete sense. It's better to start with a stable foundation than it is to go all-in this early with a few high-level cards that force you to make unnecessary sacrifices.

I have two main criticisms of this deck.

  1. It's a bit slow for a Kaalia build. While it isn't impossible to build a slower deck, it isn't advantageous. Kaalia's strength is her ability to rapidly generate board presence; she gets weaker as a general and as a deck if and when players get the chance to build their own positions and respond to yours. This problem is intensified by the hate Kaalia tends to draw during games - other players will want to suppress your deck's ability to do anything on the presumption, whether correct or incorrect, that it will make explosive plays if not kept in check. Your deck isn't really set up to deal with that kind of hate.
  2. Discard is ineffective in EDH. There is plenty of draw power available in this format, and discard effects aren't really a great control option because of that fact.

I do agree that this deck seems torn between Tariel and Kaalia. Your strategy doesn't seem fully committed to either.

You understand that utility lands are important, but you need to determine exactly what kinds of utility lands and utilities are relevant and therefore worth including. You should cut lands like Esper Panorama and Hammerheim . While they do offer utility to you, they don't really do enough to justify their inclusion. You'd be better off completing your filter cycle or increasing the number of basic lands you have (basics are much harder to destroy than nonbasics). Sunhome, Fortress of the Legion would also be a viable choice.

Because your deck lack green's raw ramp power, you should focus on artifacts as a way to get some extra mana production going. Mana Vault , Rakdos Signet , Boros Signet , Orzhov Signet , and others can help you.

alright that helps so much! Put in ur suggested cards, put out Discarder (except Identity Crisis ) the lands u mentioned and a few board sweepers like Day of Judgment or Merciless Eviction to concentrate on Kaalia (i really want her to be my commander). When i want to focus on her, what can i do? I try to give her haste (Hall of the Bandit Lord Lightning Greaves ) and Protection Maze of Ith . Ur right if u think i rush into this ;)

I in my Opinion you should cut some of the Sorcery Spell for more creatures, For Example Master of Cruelties . Bring out Kaalia, give her haste, bring in the one hit Master and kill somebody on turn 3. Maybe mean, maybe a 1v1 strategy but might be worth it.

Rakdos the Defiler + Disciple of Bolas : hit somebody in the face with Kaalia, put Rakdos the Defiler into play attacking and let somebody sac half of his or her permanents and on the next turn cast Disciple of Bolas and sac Rakdos for some nice card draw and Life.

Btw. Necropotence is a nice card draw option.

hey ifym, i put in Rakdos because the "cheating effect" is really awesome :) which sorcery would you cut?

May 22, 2013 9:21 a.m.

ifym says... #10

@mcpilz

Maybe Identity Crisis . I can see the advantages, but a 6 mana sorcery in an Multiplayer-Aggro deck should clean the board or do something similar to Austere Command .

You could also cut cards like Barter in Blood or Innocent Blood , because you have to sacrifice something too, and you havent got that much creatures to sacrifice.

this was a fun deck to play against. Kaalia is a scary general. I think this decks only weakness is not enough creatures / tutors for creatures. check out Diabolic Revelation and deeeefinitely Master of Cruelties like ifym mentioned. your deck is scary but it needs to be scarier, you know?

May 22, 2013 10:38 a.m.

ifym says... #12

With Marsh Flats and Bloodstained Mire , you could put in Evolving Wilds and Terramorphic Expanse and use Crucible of Worlds

@mu-beta I know Tutor Cards are good but in my opinion Diabolic Revelation is way too expensive. You have to Pay 6 mana and you only get one card? i dont think thats worth the casting cost.

May 22, 2013 10:52 a.m.

mcpilz says... #13

@ifym @mu-beta Master of cruelties done :) Put out Identity crisis, innocent blood and barter of blood, now it has more speed i think, thanks! As for the tutor,Vampiric tutor and Crucible of worlds is a bit too expensive...:P

Put in Magus of the Moat and Reaper from the Abyss . Should i take out Punishing Fire and 2 other cards, Put in Condemn ?

May 22, 2013 12:19 p.m.

mu-beta says... #15

@ifym i agree that Diabolic Revelation is slow, but if you're at the tail end of a long game with mana up and no angels, dragons, or demons to plug the board with...

May 22, 2013 1:32 p.m.

mu-beta says... #16

@mcpilz Punishing Fire is a neat card, but maybe not what Kaalia wants? it's pretty good in conjunction with Swords to Plowshares and Condemn , but those are the only two cards in your deck that can make an opponent gain life. maybe run Searing Spear instead?

May 22, 2013 1:39 p.m.

ifym says... #17

@mu-beta Now i get it. Under those circumstances Diabolic Revelation is quite good.

@mu-beta,mcpilzI don't really like Searing Spear and all of those Lightning Bolt -Cards, because they don't really do that much in an EDH-Deck. For more Spot-Removal you could throw in Tragic Slip or Murder and cut things like Slaughter Pact (funny card but the downside is quite frightening.)

If you want more Wrath of God -Effects i would suggest something like Wing Shards , Blasphemous Act or Black Sun's Zenith otherwise you should focus on things like Enchantment removal. What do you do against a Nevermore naming Kaalia? I like Return to Dust because you can exile Artifacts and Enchantments in instant speed and you can exile two if you cast it in one of your Main Phases.

Just as i see Yosei, the Morning Star , Ryusei, the Falling Star and Kokusho, the Evening Star what about a Mimic Vat ? Imprint Yosei, the Morning Star if he dies, pay 3 mana get a 5/5 dude with flying and haste, hit somebody in the face and EOT he dies and you tap out a player you don't like.

May 23, 2013 2:20 a.m.

@ifym: Mimic Vat doesn't work very well with the Kamigawa dragons. The tokens are exiled, not sacrificed/destroyed. Therefore, their on-death abilities won't trigger unless you can sacrifice or otherwise kill the dragons via another means.

@Epochalyptik: Aaah! Now i remember why i cut Yosei, the Morning Star from my EDH Deck.

Sorry, my fault!

mcpilz says... #20

again, thank u guys very much! Why doesnt it show the update on the right side?So here it goes: Put IN Wing Shards , Darksteel Ingot ,Condemn , Diabolic Revelation ,Return to Dust , Swamp took OUT Punishing Fire , Slaughter Pact , Exsanguinate , Past in Flames , Shinka, the Bloodsoaked Keep , Coldsteel Heart i think about removing Profane Command , putting in Rogue's Passage . Have to take out 3 more

May 23, 2013 5:11 a.m.

I would argue that Slaughter Pact should never be cut. A 0-drop removal spell is very powerful.

I'm not a big fan of Wing Shards or Diabolic Revelation . Neither is particularly powerful for its mana cost.

May 23, 2013 5:34 a.m.

ifym says... #22

@Epochalyptik: As long as you don't cast it too early in the game.

First things first: It has got a restriction saying "non-black" creature AND the downside of losing the game if you cant pay 2B at the beginning of your upkeep.

If i sacrifice Yosei, the Morning Star with my High Market or something else, i let you tap your remaining lands and you skip your untap step. That means you have lost.

May 23, 2013 5:49 a.m.

You can come up with any number of situations in which Slaughter Pact 's delayed triggered ability could cause you to lose the game, but I think your example is more a matter of player discretion when using Slaughter Pact than it is a matter of Slaughter Pact being flawed or not worth including.

The fact that Slaughter Pact can't target black creatures is a bit of a downside, but it's not crippling. A 0-drop removal spell is a powerful thing, and you shouldn't discount it solely because there are limitations to its use.

May 23, 2013 6:25 a.m.

ifym says... #24

I can understand your point of view and objectively you are right. To destroy a Creature without the need to pay mana for it is basically good but you have to provide 3 mana at the beginning of the next upkeep. Mana which you cant use this turn.

I am not quite convinced of the awesomeness of this spell.

You may use it if you like it, you may suggest it to other people. I have to put it in a deck of mine and test it before i use it.

May 23, 2013 7:06 a.m.

mcpilz says... #25

i think its especially good vs haste creeps. for example vs kaalia herself (if u have no mana left). Particularly if you have no counterspells in black/red/white. Or if someone wants to put on lightning greaves to keep you from destroying. Its risky nevertheless.
