Love your choice of Reconnaissance for this deck, I'm going to have to try that out. I'm currently testing Maze of Ith for the same thing, which you might try since it can work on opponent's, too. Love how Recon can be used multiple times!

I took Armageddon out of my deck, as people really don't like it. It's a fantastic win condition/insurance ... but I'm trying to stay more on the fun side of things.

I'm a big fan of Fervor for this deck, both for Kaalia and for creatures I have to hard-cast or bring out with Quicksilver Amulet .

Reconnaissance is one hell of an enchantment. I'd say that both that and Magus of the Moat are superb cards (wish I had a real Moat .With Recon, Kaalia always drops something even when the moment isn't right. And most people don't expect it. So do try it and let me know how it works for you.

Maze of Ith is nice and woks even nicer with Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth (which is a card added to the deck - I need to update the mana base). I'm unsure abut what to remove though. I still prefer Recon over the Maze since, as ou say, it can be used multiple times. Even in response to an unsuspecting Condemn .

Fervor is cool. I used it on the deck before but with little inpact on the deck, so I removed it. Might add it back again if I come to term about what to remove.

Armageddon is great indeed. I still prefer Desolation Angel: due to its cost I find it much fairer to my opponents as it is a much slower card.More so, Armageddon was used to face one specific opponent who, due to real life stuff doesn't play with our group anymore. I might swap it out for Fervor...

Fervor has been added in place of Armageddon .

Ok, I've played this deck a bit and noticed that it stutters a bit against combo-control. Either I go fully against the guy with the combo-control deck, as if in a blind haze of rage or its all messed up.

To counter this I feel that I need to add disruption to the deck. I don't like Wrath of God like effects but in the end I might have to add Sunblast Angel (well, its quite doable with Reconnaissance ) and something akin to Magus of the Disk although the fact that it comes into play tapped is a downside.

Kaalia of the Vast should be in the sideboard

I think you made a good call on Armageddon since no one likes the person who drops armageddon after Avacyn, Angel of Hope . Another thing is that while i know you want to lay down the beats with this deck, it would be nice if you added some more removal. You have some built into your creatures, but it may help you in multiplayer to have more. Which brings me to the hidden text on Kalia which says if you play her you will be hated off the board. That is what makes her subpar in 3+ matches

Armageddon is awesome. And if I wanted to go competitive, I'd keep it. But yeap, that's the reasoning: in a casual table no one likes the person who drops it. Even without Avacyn in play. Desolation Angel does the same but it just looks like a much fairer card since it costs more and has to be hardcast...

As for removal, I know. I should use more. But I don't see myself removing many creatures. Ok, I could live without Basandra, Battle Seraph , Hellkite Tyrant (which I believe I will remove since it is more of a dick move against Sharuum decks) to add both Angel of Finality (which I think is a must since there's always someone playing with the graveyards) and a Terminate or Swords to Plowshares (since they both work well with Sunforger . Well, maybe I'll do that indeed although I do enjoy Basandra...

Ended up considering Mortify as my extra spot removal spell. Its a very versatile spell that I had completely forgotten about.

Basandra though is one hell of an angel that I like a lot. I think that she needs to see play. Perhaps my boros-aura deck is more suitable for her: Anthrax and Cyanide. Will have to sort some stuff out though.

C14 brings a few more interesting creatures to be added to a Kaalia deck. I'm unsure about what to do but right now I'm looking at Overseer of the Damned and Angelic Field Marshal.

Right now I'm trying to turn this into a much more frightening deck. My group is very casual but some players tend to abuse on control.

I'm also trying to maximize my Sunforger toolbox, adding some choice targets for it. Tithe and Rebuff the Wicked sound great targets and I'm unsure about how good Kolaghan's Command plays in EDH. Sarkhan's Triumph also sounds interesting, being a tutor and all... But I have other ways of getting creatures into my hand.

Other than that, I'm unsure about what to remove to add back Admonition Angel and how important would Haven of the Spirit Dragon be in a 3-color deck. Oh! And please avoid suggesting dual lands. They are too expensive for my pocket. :)

Next update will add Blinding Angel, Dragon Mage, Scourge of Kher Ridges and Thundermaw Hellkite to the deck.

I know I'll remove Knollspine Dragon in a direct trade with Dragon Mage. Not sure about what else to remove for the other 3...

This looks funny! I may just get this deck.

It is fun. Not super-powerful (I've seen better Kaalia decks out there) since it had to be tweaked to fit my meta (no mass land destruction, no infinite combos, no infect). But fun and somewhat unbroken.

If you're going to play competitive, I'd add Iona, Shield of Emeria, Skithiryx, the Blight Dragon, the actual dual lands, more spot removal and Armageddon. :)

Great call on that one. Thank you. But there is one very good reason, yes. I messed up today's update. It's fixed now, thanks to you.

DarkRequiem no problem. Love the deck.

Unha110w3d thanks. And thanks for the upvote. It's a fun deck to play, being my fav, from my many decks. And my very first EDH deck. It has seen several iterations throughout the years. But it has been toned down to fit my group's style. We dislike land destruction and infection with a passion.

Unha110w3d says... #21

DarkRequiem i admire that you toned down the deck for better group experience. I have faced several times against kaalia decks and they are relentless, they are fun to watch go off though.

Unha110w3d, yeah, well... Playing with Armageddon and a few more variants, Skithiryx, the Blight Dragon , Iona, Shield of Emeria (prior to her banishing) and a few other offenders is fun when the group is on par. When people start rulling out infect due to random unanswerable kills, you have to change the deck. When land destruction is rule out because, lets face it, it isn't much fun and the group isn't that cutthroat, you have to change the deck. And when Emeria is banned... It still hurts.

I still believe it to be quite powerful and fun even if people don't think Rakdos to be fair (works like a charm if paired with Blood Clock or if think that a Master of Cruelties dropped by Kaalia, attacking someone who can't block it is overwhelming... No one said that Kaalia is fair, even if toned down. :)

And talking Master made me think that a Angrath, Captain of Chaos could be fun in this build...

Unha110w3d says... #23

DarkRequiem Angrath would be great in the deck, makes your creature that much harder to block or even Iroas, God of Victory which is harder to remove and still gives some menace.

February 27, 2021 6:11 a.m.

DarkRequiem says... #24

Unha110w3d, no free Iroas in my collection at this point. Instead I might add Goblin War Drums . Cheaper, harder to kill and does the same thing.
