So would you suggest dropping Mana Confluence ? Maybe a couple pain lands too?

I want to suggest only use one type of pain land. Mana Confluence appears to be the best fit. So maybe turn that into a 4-of and minus the rest. As for what to add for the other two land spots, I'm not sure. Maybe keep two? It's really your call and how you play it I guess.

They do speed things up, but mixed with Sign in Blood and Thoughtseize , it just hurts a lot.

I will look into changing some lands. Probably take out the Confluence because the pain lands can still count as 1 and do no harm. I will look into some different draw card that deals less harm as well. Maybe I will have better results :). Thanks for all your help and advice.

My suggestion:

+3 Boros Charm to protect your 4 power creatures from Elspeth's -3 ability or opponets board wipers. Also flexible with Double strike ability and attacking twice with Warleader. 4 damage to the head could also be a finisher for that last points of damage when Warleader's two attack phases don't push all the way through.

And don't use Mana Confluence , it's terrible in most decks besides like Naya Hexproof where life don't matter as much.

I'd also suggest another Rakdos's Return mainboard.

Probably take out -1 Underworld Connections altogether, -2 Banishing Light and put those in the side, and the Warleader's Helix. Good luck!

This is a very nice set up. Since you dont have any ramp does your curve give you issues? I have a similar deck That I would like you to give me your thoughts on.

Been checking on your list from time to see how things are going but decided to update and follow another decklist and it worked flawlessly. Dropping Hero's Downfall entirely for Dreadbore was probably the best idea as well as all 3Anger of the Gods to stop all the crazy aggro going around. Stormbreath Dragon was the finisher almost every game, worth a thought.

lighting bolt is better than strike due to the mana cost and it does the exact same thing spell wise. Lightening helix could be a better use of that spot or the mortars spot for similar reasons. Also my veteran tourney friend suggested figure of destiny in place of the dragon.

also how much success do you find playing tourneys with this deck.

June 24, 2015 2:24 a.m.

@DrakeOfAtoms You would be correct if this was any normal Modern format deck. This list used to be a Standard list I used when, well all the cards were in the Standard rotation. The only reason it's labeled under Modern format is because there were apparently lots of complaints about it being labeled as a Standard deck. Mostly it's because people can't read how it clearly tells them it was standard at a specific time.

As to its success, I only ever played it at FNM and could not attend any official, competitive, tourneys.

I meant FNM so since im wanting to turn this into a effective modern deck what would you advise me switching up aside from the ones I mentioned.

June 24, 2015 3:51 a.m.

I would change quite a bit but if you want to stay close to this then here is what I'd do. Replace Sin Collector with Tidehollow Sculler. Add in some form of Path to Exile, Terminate, more Thoughtseize. If you were looking for A modern list in these colours I have a couple others know my profile that are actual modern deck lists.

I did the sin collector swap swapped in figure of destiny in place of the dragons, replaced strike with bolt and relaced mortar with lightening helix. anymore suggestions. I really want to stay as close to this formuala as possible.

If you have them or the money for them, You could drop the Elspeth, Sun's Champion and the Assemble the Legion for 3x Liliana of the Veil

It seems weird that you have this listed as a modern deck, your comments show that you understand what cards to switch out to make this a "real" modern deck but you haven't changed the actual list. This deck looks cool and I'd be interested in seeing the actual modern version, maybe make a new deck for the modern version and list this one under casual? Just my thoughts +1

July 10, 2015 1:14 p.m.

Thanks for the compliments! Well this deck list I used when all of the cards were once in thier own standard rotation. I left it tagged as standard because it used to be a Standard deck. People got upset so I changed it to be tagged as Modern. If I were to modern this deck it would be very very different. The only thing that might stay would be Thoughtseize And maybe some lands. I do have a modern deck that's a Mardu Midrange similar to this deck but it's not the same lol. It's on my profile if you'd like to check it out its called Law of the Vengeant! . If you were interested in seeing a deck list made with the same creatures but using more modern spells then you'll need Lightning Bolt, Path to Exile, and a handful of Crackling Doom and Terminate.
