Creature (2)

I was a little shocked to see that the mighty Kazuul, Tyrant of the Cliffs was printed at uncommon in Commander Masters. Ultimately this makes no real difference in a commander product, but Kazuul seems like an absolute nightmare for a pauper setting. How could a world of all-commons hope to handle such a behemoth?

Now the thing is, while I think Kazuul would be an exceptionally good card in Pauper EDH, I don't know good his deck will be. But why not give it a try? Sometimes a bomb in the command zone can be enough, I'd wager.

I think the main payoff would be running the various monarch effects available at common. Card draw is scarce for anyone outside of blue in pauper, so getting an extra card each turn is clutch. So your opponents are incentivized to attack you - but that's where Kazuul comes in! Either they pay through the nose, obviating and spellcasting for the turn, or they let you pile up some fearsome 3/3s - pretty darn big in the world of pauper.

The second secret ingredient? Land destruction! Players who are hurting for mana are especially going to struggle to pay Kazuul's hefty tax, and red has plenty of classic goodies even at common, including Molten Rain, Pillage and Seismic Spike.
