I've actually planned out a sort of 'annual payment plan', so it turns out to be not that hard to pay for. It will only take me 4 years :D

Started last year actually, so I have a fair amount of these already.

well, 3 more years is a long time, at least by my standards. I usually deem anything over 1 month a "long time" for making a deck.

It's definitely a project.

Ok so um, that's a nifty combo but it won't do what you think it will. Scion of the Ur-Dragon is the name of your general. I'm almost positive that once you activate his effect of turning into a different dragon he loses the characteristics of being your general. He no longer has the name Scion of the Ur-Dragon and instead is named Moltensteel Dragon and therefore will no longer be dealing general damage until he reverts back to his original name at the end of turn. The main combo people do with this guy is dump a ton of dragons into your graveyard, then bring them back with card:Patriarch's Bidding and then swing with them all since Karrthus, Tyrant of Jund gives them haste.

Actually, it does work. Being a Commander is a property of the card itself. This is from the MTG Comprehensive Rulebook, pay close attention to the example given by WotC.

903.3. Each deck has a legendary creature card designated as its commander. This designation is not a characteristic of the object represented by the card; rather, it is an attribute of the card itself. The card retains this designation even when it changes zones.

Example: A commander thats been turned face down (due to Ixidrons effect, for example) is still a commander. A commander thats copying another card (due to Cytoshapes effect, for example) is still a commander. A permanent thats copying a commander (such as a Body Double, for example, copying a commander in a players graveyard) is not acommander.

Im noticing that youre running barely any counterspells, almost no protection, and almost no ramp. and why all of the tutors? theres barely anything to search for.

run vexing shusher. run signets. they give you ridiculous acceleration. run Skyshroud Claim , Three Visits , Wood Elves , and card:Nature's Lore. also, running basics instead of city of traitors (not very good in edh btw)and your colorless producers, which you cant use to play scion anyway, will give you access to more ramp, like Rampant Growth and friends.

I'm a huge fan of ramp, I like card:Nature's Lore, Three Visits , and Rampant Growth , all good cards. I really figured it was good with Lotus Cobra , Primeval Titan , Knight of the Reliquary and the like. I use the tutors for grabbing responses to board changes, of course. I only run the counterspells that I felt were worth running, i.e. affordable and don't interrupt my flow. I am considering some more counterspells, like Last Word , did you have any specific suggestions? Thank you for your advice, I will gladly remove some of the colorless land and add some ramp cards!

Perhaps running a Gilded Lotus for mana ramp, a Vorinclex, Voice of Hunger

KorApprentice says... #12

I'm not sure about Gilded Lotus , it is too expensive to cast to be terribly effective. I prefer Lotus Bloom and Lotus Petal personally. As for Vorinclex, Voice of Hunger , I'm not really sure why I would need him. I'd rather cast Primeval Titan or my general.

I have a personal love for my Survival of the FittestMTG Card: Survival of the Fittest so whenever I see a deck with green that isn't using it I try to suggest it. that is all. moving on. lol (actually it looks incredibly solid)

I used to have that and Fauna ShamanMTG Card: Fauna Shaman in here, but with the small number of creatures that I have, I found the straight tutors, Worldly TutorMTG Card: Worldly Tutor and Sylvan TutorMTG Card: Sylvan Tutor, more useful. Then I removed those in favor of some more ramp. Then I removed the additional ramp in favor of some new cards. Somewhere in that process, I completely forgot about the creature tutors, but I wouldn't mind finding a spot or two for them. With such a small creature base, it's pretty reasonable to have them. Is there any cards you feel are not particularly necessary?

January 30, 2012 4:24 p.m.

AsceticismMTG Card: Asceticism would be good to see in this, it's great for keeping spot removal at bay.

I'm noticing a few different things you can do with Scion and it tends to give me some good ideas for my Scion deck.

Would be nice to see Bear UmbraMTG Card: Bear Umbra+Hellkite ChargerMTG Card: Hellkite Charger in this as well as some other utility dragons Scion can turn into.

Hoard-Smelter DragonMTG Card: Hoard-Smelter Dragon on someone's mimic vat or anything else really would add injury to insult.

NICE mana base. my Scion deck would have that base IF i could shell out the cash for it. the only way i'm gonna be doing that is through mtg though.

The real version that I have of this runs mostly "ETB tapped unless..." lands and pain lands, though I do have some Zendikar fetches and Revised duals. I am working on mostly the land base, since that is the most important part of any 5-color deck. I also have all of the cards you mentioned in the real deck to replace some of the more expensive cards; Primeval TitanMTG Card: Primeval Titan, Force of WillMTG Card: Force of Will, VindicateMTG Card: Vindicate, etc. However, I really feel that I do not need them in this line-up. I only use the dragons that will win me the game, using the extra space for utility spells, which will serve me much better than relying on my commander for utility. The goal is to win if he goes unblocked, with a pumped Dragon TyrantMTG Card: Dragon Tyrant or Moltensteel DragonMTG Card: Moltensteel Dragon. I did choose to use Balefire DragonMTG Card: Balefire Dragon, just because he completely decimates your opponents field. I am going to add Nicol BolasMTG Card: Nicol Bolas as well, for another game-ending back up. Thank you for the suggestions, feedback is always welcome!

I honestly don't have much to offer that would improve this deck. Maybe a Rhystic StudyMTG Card: Rhystic Study, Phyrexian ArenaMTG Card: Phyrexian Arena, or one of their more group-huggy counterparts for some additional draw. ExplorationMTG Card: Exploration for additional ramp. Swiftfoot BootsMTG Card: Swiftfoot Boots?

KorApprentice says... #18

I do find that I lack ways to draw or give Scion Haste by turn 5 or 6. I'm going to add Mind's EyeMTG Card: Mind's Eye and Swiftfoot BootsMTG Card: Swiftfoot Boots, thank you for the suggestion!

I don't think ExplorationMTG Card: Exploration would be very helpful considering my unusually low land base. I use signets and other artifact ramp to supplement this, but it's just not ideal for ExplorationMTG Card: Exploration.

ok bear with me: there's a card ( i didn't get to overhear the name) that two people were talking about that states whenever a creature enters the graveyard from anywhere exile it and then at the beginning of the end step bring it back onto the battlefield give me a few hours to see if i can find the name though.

HERE we are: it might be Debtors' KnellMTG Card: Debtors' Knell or something similar. If you used scion's ability in response to this during your upkeep you could search for a dragon then have it immediately come out effectively making 2 dragons that are the same

The card you are thinking of is Back from the BrinkMTG Card: Back from the Brink, and no. It is far too expensive and I have far too few creatures. Bladewing the RisenMTG Card: Bladewing the Risen doesn't win games, I have enough dragons that do for 1 on 1 play. I probably haven't mentioned that, this deck is meant for 1 on 1 games, which is what I usually play. It is rare that I get into multiplayer games with the availability of players, but this can still hold its own with the dragons that I have and the alternate win conditions. Thanks for the input though, I appreciate any suggestions! Thinking about throwing in a Vampiric TutorMTG Card: Vampiric Tutor, think I need it? What can I take out? This list has been trimmed pretty tight, but I would like to make room for the one more card.
