Competitive Mardu Control
Tired of dragons? Tired of four color decks? Tired of the words Abzan, Jeskai, and Esper?
I thought you might be.
Welcome to wotc.ihatecreatures.deck! A control list of the Mardu variety that relies on depleting your opponent's hand and cleaning the field of creatures in as many effective ways as possible. Wait until they're starved and freezing and then hit them where it hurts.
Why Mardu Control?
I feel like Mardu is a very strong color combination in Standard currently for very simple reasons.
Notably it is also a color combination that is receiving very little attention compared to the current meta. I aim to fix that.
How's It Stand?
While I haven't gotten much competitive playtesting in with the deck yet, the list preforms excellently on paper and when I'm out fishing for gold (goldfishing).
How To Do What It Do?
Playing this deck is quite simply done.
- Assemble Mardu mana ()
- Kill all the things
- Watch them desperately exhaust their hand
- Wait for their guard to drop
- Dash
Pitiless Horde
The strategy in actual sentences is to quickly get to three mana in your three colors at least so that you have access to your Kolaghan's Commands and Crackling Dooms so you can keep an early grip on the board state. Building up to that you have
Despise
and Duress to rip apart their hand and quickly learn what you're dealing with.
Keep in mind this deck runs ZERO two-drop cards. Consider that carefully when planning your turns in the early game. You cannot be judged wrongly for hitting their hand three times by the end of turn 2.
From turn three on you're hopefully building successful mana into five so that you can play your big cards like your board wipes (End Hostilities and Crux of Fate) and Planeswalkers (Ob Nixilis Reignited and
Sarkhan, the Dragonspeaker
).
Continuously clean the board and hit them when they're open with your dashing 5/3
Pitiless Horde
.
And remember Kolaghan's Command can always be used to bring back one of your 4
Pitiless Horde
s, so don't be afraid to take a risk with one.
Stay Tuned For More
I will write more thorough strategies and a cleaner Primer for the deck when I have more time.

I hope you kids enjoy!
