Yup, they do. For instance Steam Vents has the basic land types 'island mountain', meaning you can fetch it with other lands like Evolving Wilds . Here's a link to mtg salvation wiki saying about as much: http://wiki.mtgsalvation.com/article/shock_lands

Yes, they have the basic land TYPES, but are not basic lands. They can be fetched with cards like Farseek , but not cards that specify "basic land" like Evolving Wilds . Look at how the card type is stated as "Basic Land" for Island and Mountain , whereas it's just "Land" for Steam Vents and Sulfur Falls .

Yup. Or else Evolving Wilds would be excellent in this deck. lol

Jarrhead, maybe for two of the shocklands put in their dual land equivelant

Yeah, I'd like to build an actual rough draft of this using just the dual lands I have available, but I still need all the Keyrunes. Once I get those, I can start taking this to FNM just for the hell of it.

But I also have to discard a card. There's no card advantage there.

Izzet Keyrune's ability is just bad. The earliest you can attack with it is turn 4, and by that time a 2/1 non-flying, non-trample creature has very little chance of getting through an opponent's defense unless you board wipe first.
October 30, 2012 10:21 p.m.
The remainder of your post is very contradicting to your first sentence. You told me why the Keyrune is bad, not the ability.
But it's a moot point. Your argument is hilarious because you should never count out a creature that doesn't have evasion/Trample, especially when you're playing Blue and Red, and probably also White.
Desolate Lighthouse is one of the better lands in Standard right now. The "Loot" ability has always been good. It gives you card advantage. You draw a card and discard the worst card in your hand. "Oh, I'm top-decking land and I need an answer? I'll Loot... Oh, hey! An answer!"
It gives you card advantage because it helps you dig deeper into your deck and find the right cards that you need.

zandl, I appreciate your suggestions, but I don't appreciate your sarcastic attitude towards the other posters. Desolate Lighthouse is certainly not one of the better lands in Standard right now, as made evident by it's $0.50 price tag. Looting isn't really that good. You don't get any more cards in your hand as a result. At any rate, there's no room for all five Keyrunes, and the Izzet Keyrune is definitely the weakest of the Keyrunes.

Wow, this is an awesome deck! Maybe you should look into the Gatecrash keyrunes, maybe run 2 keyrunes from each guild? Gives 20 total Keyrunes, all providing the mana you need for your end game Bolas and Boardwipes

Needs draw power. More card advantage = more keyrunes

Demonic Rising could make this even funnier. also I WAS NUMBER 50!

Ooh. Demonic Rising could be fun. I'll play around with it. And thanks for the +1!

I could use a Door to Nothingness, but this is just a fun deck that wants to win by attacking with Keyrunes. It'd probably be wise to add a Door, but meh.

Sideboard could include such cards as Mind Grind to really throw them off track, especially later on when you've got a good amount of mana at your disposal and they've already drawn to a decent number of their own lands. Boros Charm would also be a handy side board, as you don't see a ton of anti-artifact in standard other than maybe a Abrupt Decay here and there. But still better to be ready for such encounters just in case.
While you're at it, why not toss in 4 Cathedral of War to boost up the potential of the keyrune damage? with 4 lanterns in there and the 16 colorless keyrunes, it should not hurt anything in there.

Mind Grind could be a good alternative for Nicol Bolas, Planeswalker if they have a bunch of Dreadbore mainboarded or something. I don't see artifact hate as much of a problem. With 16 Keyrunes, I doubt I'll have trouble keeping a board presence. About the Cathedral of War, I don't think it's such a good idea. The idea of this deck is to board wipe and swing with a bunch of Keyrunes. Attacking with one at a time wouldn't be more advantageous than attacking with all of them, even with all four Cathedrals out.

Rancor should be taken out. it will fall off your creature after every turn. should it goes to your hand but still can be annoying.
I think adding 2 Blind Obedience would be better. it would give you an entire extra turn after a board wipe to swing in with no blockers looking at you.
plus, who would ever say no to extort?(:

what about Hellkite Tyrant ? if you add it though, add some more artifacts like the cluestones for draw power or something like that

The first things that come to mind to me would be Barter in Blood for general removal and perhaps a single Debt to the Deathless as a late game ender.

after m14's release i considered a deck idea similar to this and it's actually doing very well at my local, through playtesting
Would love some more ideas on it though Cull The Herd
