I was considering putting Fleshbag Marauder which is more or less the same thing as Merciless Executioner, but I ended up adding in Dutiful Attendant instead

I like Nantuko Husk and might playtest with it in, but I think I prefer Voracious Null. it keeping the counters gives me opportunities for big creatures if I cant get a Priest of the Blood Rite out into circulation

Alright to start i would make this deck a b/g deck for Blisterpod and Catacomb Sifter but that is up to you.Put Duress in the sideboard to hate control. Yes that an order ! (joke XD). to my opinion you dont have enough thing to sacrifice and to many thing to try and sacrifice them. i got to say that i dont agree with you about Nantuko Husk and Voracious Null . Nantuko Husk is a free sacrifice and Voracious Null ask you mana to 2 for 1 yourself yes its gonna grow but its to easy to remove if you play against a removal heavy deck, control and its just no gonna be fast enouph for agro... and playing Rogue's Passage with Nantuko Husk fell great trust me. i would find a place for Ruinous Path at least a 1 of.Gravepurge feel like a bad card to me especialy in multiple i would only sideboard that versus mill deck. To me Grim Haruspex seem like a no brainer in any standard sacrifice deck could fit in some modern. Shambling Goblin is not a bad card but at beat give you a 2 for 1 and most of the time it will only trade with a 2/2. i hear you my 1 mana 1/1 trade with a 2/2 that great. what if i tell you that you could have a 1 mana 2/1 which will also trade with that 2/2 but then you could make it come back for one mana as long as you attack. that marvelous thing is Bloodsoaked Champion. The champion can come back multiple time a turn so turn so with Nantuko Husk and Zulaport Cutthroat you can make them lose a much life as you have in mana as long as you attack that turn tell me that is not great ??! after that i know that Priest of the Blood Rite look good but just try Kalitas, Traitor of Ghet im not sure about that one so dont buy it if you dont have extra money Tasigur, the Golden Fang also look like a good option.

galendarf thank you so much for the well thought out comment and recommendations. i'm definitely adding duress to the sideboard. second of all, the Nantuko Husk and Rogue's Passage does actually sound really good. i'm definitely going to test them out for sure. i didn't like Gravepurge much myself when i first saw it, but playing with it is really nice. if i'm in a bad situation, i can use it to simply draw a card if nothing else, and in the best case scenario, i can set up a nice combo with Altar's Reap. i'll also probably going to look into adding more removal, like Ruinous Path like you suggested.

i'm thinking i'm going to actually drop the Gravepurge and add in two Grasp of Darkness and one more Macabre Waltz or maybe even just 3 Grasp of Darkness

I would consider adding 2x Sea Gate Wreckage to the manabase because the card really makes a topdeckwar shift in your favor. Also, I see you like Priest of the Blood Rite, for the same mana you could swap in Archfiend of Depravity. The card affords you not requiring a sac outlet for the priest and a flying demon (almost same body too) that hurts them bad every upkeep.
Feel free to check out my deck, Crypt Keeper Control. The shell is a little different, designed to force enemy sacs instead of friendly ones, but it's removal suite is good for any mono black deck IMO.

hey Pthance thanks for the input. i'll more than likely go for that Sea Gate Wreckage actually. and if i can get my hands on a few Archfiend of Depravity, i'll test that out for sure. having the priest to get a free buff off on Nantuko Husk is nice, as is being able to bring a priest back before the first demon is gone, but i'll give it a try for sure. that ability is mean.
your deck looks great. as a matter of fact, i've got a friend with a pretty similar deck: Mono Black hand control. maybe you two could bounce ideas off each other.
thanks again

Hey, so for your sideboard I can give you some insight as to what would be helpful, and what might not be.
- Transgress the Mind is often a strong sideboard option because it is good against so many decks. 3 CMC is a major power break point in this standard, so you can clear a lot of good cards at 3. It might be a better option than Duress right now.
- Read the Bones is a card drawing option that works well for mono-black. There will be matchups where you want to get a little bit more draw going, and this card works well. If you can fit 2-3 into your sideboard, this is something you will want to pull in against control decks where all your removal becomes super bad.
- Flaying Tendrils can be good against agro decks if you are concerned about such things. Not sure how your matchup is there, but this will kill a lot of tokens and small creatures fast.
Deck looks good, though. Thanks for the list.

thanks a ton for the suggestions jeffthemagicgoat, i reduced the number of quite a few of my sideboard cards. i split the four Duress into two and threw in two Transgress the Mind to compensate. i also put in two Read the Bones at the cost of a Languish and Gravepurge.
i think i'll hold onto Languish for now, but if i find aggro more of a problem, i'll probably end up swapping it out for Flaying Tendrils

Languish is a great card. It kills most of the cratures in the format. Most importantly, it gets rid of the two cards that might be best against you- Anafenza and Kalitas. These two turn your deck off. So please don't get rid of Languish. I recommended Tendrils incase you have problems with small red agro decks or the like.

oh, okay. would you recommend taking out Tainted Remedy? i kinda just have it in there in case someone is doing some type of life gain thing. i'm not sure if that's relevant at all in standard currently though.
February 15, 2016 6:14 p.m.
jeffthemagicgoat says... #23
There are a few people that do a life gain allies kind of budget deck, but honestly it is not worth worrying about as long as you have removal. Tainted Remedy is generally not a strong card in standard. It doesn't do anything that affects the board, and while it can be annoying to your opponent, it is only STRONG against 1 minor deck. You want broader cards for your sideboard.
