I enjoy trying to build decks around cards that seem useless. After brewing and testing this bad boy, I can conclude that Savor the Moment is most certainly not useless, for the following reasons:
1: Worst case scenario is that it's Explore but for one more. Decks that like playing additional lands (like this one) will love it.
2: Every effect you have that happens every turn, like "At the beginning of your upkeep", "At the beginning of your end step", or planeswalker abilities, will happen again.
Other featured cards include:
Scute Mob
- Benefits from Savor the Moment's built in Explore effect, and also has an upkeep trigger that can be repeated. Your opponent probably won't expect him to go from 1/1 to 9/9 in basically 1 turn. He is slightly underwhelming against certain decks, but hey, he's a 1-drop.
Primordial Hydra- One of my favorite cards ever printed. I shouldn't have to explain why he can take a game by himself. He builds up even faster when you play Savor the Moment.
Kiora, the Crashing Wave
- The deck needed a planeswalker to abuse the fact that Savor the Moment lets you use an ability twice. She fits in nicely since her -1 helps with
Scute Mob
, and her -5 gives you another effect that goes off every turn. In this deck, it's possible to fire off that -5 on turn four. Keep in mind that you also have countermagic in the middle of that.
Time Warp- More turns! It costs two more than Savor the Moment, so it's essentially getting to untap your permanents at the cost of not being able to leave up counter support for opposing counters or kill spells your opponents may play if you tap out.
If you have a suggestion, please comment! I want this deck to be the best a Savor the Moment deck could possibly be. If you like the idea, a +1 would be appreciated!
