in my opinion between the charms, rift , and retraction helix you have enough spot removal i would think about Gridlock instead of Inaction Injunction . it is at instant speed so you tap whenever and board tap to delay late game. i also playtest the deck and i was able to produce turn 9 wins. i think there is room to remove some land for more wind cons and mana dumps

are u gonna play this in a modern tournament?

Thanks Shadow_Fury You've been very helpful (gave you a shout out in the description). Made the changes / cantrips are always nice in combo decks so Quicken is great. I am not as sure of Elvish Mystic as it costs G and produces G, so only really effectively ramps for artifacts (which will be turn 4 drops anyway) of if I have a dual land and need the U... I can't think of any other BU cantrips in standard, are there any in Born of the Gods?

@Shadow_Fury the Elite Arcanist is a great add i was able to exile Retraction Helix with it and have removal for every card played after that until i drew codex shedder on turn nine and milled them out

@adralen interesting, how many lands would you recomend. I think the deck is kind of at a cross-road where I should either focus on ramping into faster wins, or else need more control for those longer games.

@Shadow_Fury I wasn't planning on it, I mostly play just in my play group but have a couple standard decks (this is my other Uncommon Bonds (GW Aggro)) that I'd like to test more against the broader meta. Do you have specific modern cards you think would take this to the next level and make it competative in a tournament?

well i could probly find quite alot. but what i meant that if u were going to play in modern (and not spend to much money) i would suggest switching the amounts of codex shredder and razor tip whip. (cause when people play control, they usually want you to mill them so rhat they can flash in a snapcaster and hit anything in their graveyard (if 2nd or 3rd game they might hit a psychic spiral)

@MangoPunch i would take out two cause with Kiora's Follower , Illusionist's Bracers and Fated Infatuation you have access to the combo 11 ways. i would put in Polukranos, World Eater or Shipbreaker Kraken leaning more towards the former in this case.

Good call @adralen I took out a couple of lands. I added 2x Thassa, God of the Sea as with the scrying it is a pseudo mana dump, and should help me find what I need.

Shadow_Fury says... #10

@adralen dont you think it easier just to win with codex shredders?

January 30, 2014 9:22 a.m.

Shadow_Fury says... #11

thassa is bad with your combo! u arnt going to want to have any more upkeeps by the time you can afford thassa

Shadow_Fury says... #12

how do u suggest decks so that they have a hyper link?

January 30, 2014 9:39 a.m.

adralen says... #13

@Shadow_Fury i agree that Codex Shredder are a viable win con Polukranos, World Eater is a board wipe on their turn through. i agree with you that Thassa, God of the Sea does not have a place she would only be used for the scry and with no place for things like Sphinx's Revelation i just see the deck not surviving until it is drawn cause the Razortip Whip requires 3 untaps to work. 1. activate whip 2 untap whip 3 untap a kiora. then you need to go back through the combo to get out the damage

adralen says... #14

opps missed the kiora to untap the land. it does not work infinitely if you cant untap a land as well. using one kiora to untap whip one two untap a land and one to untap kiora

Shadow_Fury says... #15

yep, you are right there but you end up have plenty draw so you can dig and score some pretty good things fpr your libary so all the tapping and untapping end up working well for you

guyz can you please check out my standard combo deck and tell me what you think. its called Bant combo control!

January 30, 2014 9:51 a.m.

MangoPunch says... #17

Thassa, God of the Sea out. It's a turn 2-3 drop that helps me dig through my deck though - is it really that bad?

@Shadow_Fury you use a double "[" bracket (just like linking a card), with the deck "tag" (what comes after tappedout.net/mtg-decks/) in the web address. So yours would be here bant combo control!

Double "[" to oen, bant-combo-control-2, double "]" to close

two cards i think this deck can benefit from is Alpha Authority and replacing the Elvish Mystic with Sylvan Caryatid . The Alpha Authority will give you the ability to drop your Kiora's Follower and let it stick around unless they have mass removal. The Sylvan Caryatid can give you a nice blocker to put in the way for those fast aggro decks while you dig to build your combo.

adralen says... #19

it is not that it is bad it is there are better three drops that are going to need to be played instead of her imo

January 30, 2014 11:02 a.m.

Shadow_Fury says... #20

slyvian caratyrid is to slow, turn 3 cost cards you use for other things thats about when you will have your combo out

January 30, 2014 11:10 a.m.

hatebringer79 says... #21

yes the Sylvan Caryatid is a turn slower but when you play a combo deck your relying or the luck of the drawing the combo out and if you dont have it in your open hand even after a mulligan or 2 your gonna need something to make you survive against them fast creature decks that run removal and the Sylvan Caryatid has both hexproof and 3 toughness both great things that let it stick around long enough to provide the needed mana and blocking of the many 2/2's flinging at your head. i would gladly play a tad slower game 1 for the added safety of the Sylvan Caryatid then maybe side in the mystics against slower control style decks.

who is gonna waste removal on a elvish mystic? but i do understand what you're saying

Dragonfish17 says... #23

I like the idea of this combo. But it to easy to get through? If they had better toughness I would like it better. But if all I need is a magma jet or shock to make this combo delay then I don't think I'd be worried about it. You might get people in the first game but after that how do you think this deck will win if they know what you're doing and target your followers?

January 30, 2014 12:09 p.m.

Shadow_Fury says... #24

the thing is not everyone plays red. and who will waste the removal?

January 30, 2014 12:28 p.m.

MangoPunch says... #25

@Dragonfish17 I have Simic Charm for some protection, I originally had Ranger's Guile but prefered the versatility of Simic. I will probably side Ranger's Guile for vs removal heavy decks.
