I thought the same thing until I checked all of the prices for the deck and it came out to be only around $45 in total and a lot of it I already had so I paid about $30 to finish the deck.

Moonsilver Spear seems very mana intensive and leaves Invisible Stalker vulnerable because it doesn't add stats to the stalker. So something like card:Black Sun's Zenith, etc and poof.
I think card:Butcher's Cleaver would be a better choice (-2 Moonsilver Spear + card:Butcher's Cleaver?) because of the life gain. The Spear gives nice chumps and beaters, but wouldn't you want to leave mana open for control spells or cast Mind Control turn 5?
And in the end, wouldn't any of the Swords be better? (As much as I hate them)
August 23, 2012 4:32 p.m.
Yes, basically all of the swords would be better. I just don't want to buy them because they are still really expensive and they are going out shortly.
August 23, 2012 10:51 p.m.
After looking into it, I think that Sword of Body and Mind isn't too bad. It is about $7/$8 and it still fun effects. I might look into getting one some time shortly.

Dude cockatrice.de exists so cards are free! But for FNM swords are eh. I wouldn't spend the money (especially since they're rotating soon).
If you got time I'd love some feedback on my mill deck: Undead Architect

The fact that you are playing Index over Ponder is worrying. There is no reason to do this, Index is unplayable junk.
Dump Clone and play four Metamorphs or add Phantasmal Image
You should also add Sphere of the Suns and or Vessel of Endless Rest to reach these ridiculous mana costs and colour restraints, or for Stolen Goods to ever be of any use at all.
You also need mass removal to avoid disruption, just four Doom Blade s won't cut it. Especially when every card in Zombies is black...

I like a Black Knight in my sideboard for mono-white decks.

If it's against mono-white, isn't Knight of Infamy strictly better?
September 6, 2012 8:05 a.m.
knight of infamy requires only 1 specific black mana , so yhea he would by better for that part pherhaps.

Plus exalted. You may not always use or want it but it's always there.
September 6, 2012 9:09 a.m.
yhea but black got first strike, dosnt matter against white so you may not use it, but it's always there :p

As you say, since they both have prot white, the first strike is never ever relevant against mono-white. And since you were talking specifically about side-board against mono-white, Exalted is better that First Strike.

A really fun concept, and I think you do a really good job of making it somewhat playable. I'd just suggest that you may want to take some of your CMC's down, it's a very expensive-to-play deck. I love the control style, and would be happy to test it against my midrange-enchantment version sometime :)
I built mine mostly for shenanigans, and probably won't make a physical build.
September 24, 2013 3:08 a.m.
Yeah I have been thinking about what I might cut to drop the average CMC but I am just not really wanting to do that. I have what I have because it all fits the theme. It would be lots of fun to actually build a play to see how it runs against other people but I won't be able to do that for a bit.

I have been crafting a deck very similar to this. It works most of the time although fast aggro really can give you trouble if you don't have your sweeper. +1

Dimir Charm has great synergy with Ashiok, Nightmare Weaver and Nightveil Specter . I would consider putting the specter in the sideboard, though. I would also move the Psychic Intrusion to the sideboard -- fast decks will have emptied their hand before you can play it. Side it in for slower decks.
I have a similar deck that relies on the stealing mechanism. I splash red instead of white -- Ashiok, Taker of Your Things. Let me know what you think!
September 28, 2013 5:56 p.m.
The reason why Psychic Intrusion can still be used in this deck is because of the ability to pull things from the graveyard as well as the hand. With Jace, Memory Adept , Psychic Strike , Thoughtsieze, and the board clears/removal it almost always sees useful cards to take.
Your deck looks like lots of fun. Interesting take on it. It gets a vote from me.
September 28, 2013 6:09 p.m.
Good point on on it being able to take from graveyards. I overlooked that!
September 29, 2013 1:57 a.m.
This is beauty. I had almost the exact same deck idea when I saw Ashiok and Daxos at the prerelease. I'm in the process of building it now, but I might swap out a couple of things for quicker counter capability... there's 4 guys that play heavy control at my LGS. I'll let you know how your deck, and eveything else fairs when it's built :D

Sounds good. Definitely tell me how the match ups go. =)

This is the fun kind of esper! I've got a similar deck that I'm using, works really well, especially with azorius charm + steal.
What do you think about Thassa, God of the Sea ? I find her scry 1 and unblockability to be very useful, also with nightveil specters she can become a creature quite easily.

+1 I like the concept and the execution, it's refreshing to see. I wish I had the cards to run this, but it's too close to rotation for me to bother buying some of them.
