Ohohoho das clever. Im thinking of making a deck like this but Im not if I should put in mentor of the meek. Also would it be cheaper/ just as effective to run Green like you run red?

It's more expensive to run green because of Temple Garden s and Sublime Archangel s. GW Aggro tends to go all in with the Silverblade/Rancor combo instead of swarming. Overall it's the better deck but it's an extra $100 for 4 Temple Garden and 3-4 Sublime Archangel. However, you can still go with a somewhat budget version, such as my other deck deck:guardians-of-thraben.

I was thinking of running 4 Sunpetal groves, Similar to the 4 Clifftop retreats and 2 Gavony Townships instead of stronghold. The cost would be about 12 dollars cheaper with that route, however I am unsure of how effective it would be.

You could run 4 Sunpetal Grove for just Rancor .

I was considering that, thanks :] And maybe Gavony Township instead of Stronghold, atleast until Gatecrash cheap guildgates come out.

Does Ajani, Caller of the Pride get any play?

It seems like a useful card for extending into mid-range, but you don't seem to have many games that last well into the mid-game

it seems like Ajani, Caller of the Pride would more be used for the immediate -2.

@Shabobi The tactical benefit of playing Ajani, Caller of the Pride in a deck with 50% first/double strike creatures is clear as the -3 ability is one the few sources of double strike available in standard. I think it has potential synergy in this deck.

I was curious how / if it has been used in tournament play because Jimhawk did not mention Ajanni in any of the play reports.

Ajani, Caller of the Pride being a singleton means I won't draw him often. He's really just there to give me options if I should need them. As an example, I used him tonight to spectacularly kill an Angel of Serenity by giving my 3/3 Champion of the Parish flying and double strike when he was at 3 life, freeing my three dudes he exiled. I definitely love Ajani here as a miser's copy, but I'm still not sure what the impact of playing him over a third Rally the Peasants is. Even Fiend Hunter is a good maindeck three drop that he contends with. It's really just personal preference, as I've always liked using every incarnation of Ajani in the past.

I just want to take a moment to thank everyone for the positive feedback and discussion. I've gotten a lot of feedback from opponents and observers on the surprising potency of this deck, and it's good to see that sentiment reflected here as well.

As a general commentary for everyone on why I enjoy playing aggro strategies, it's because it is a punishing archetype for decks that depend on hitting all the right cards, such as reanimator and control. If you're a newer player, I recommend playing aggro at your FNMs because you sometimes just get some free wins (like I do with my constant turn 2 Thalias, lol) when your opponent misplays or keeps a bad hand. Also, I believe that that old adage of "it's better to be the one asking the questions than giving the answers" really resonates with me and my playstyle. :D

@Jimhawk - thanks for the info!

As a miser's copy Planeswalker, Ajani, Caller of the Pride fits well here. Now that I think about it, the only thing with Double-strike and Flying innately is Drogskol Reaver and he is more expensive and far less versatile. The +1/+1 @ +1 probably doesn't hurt either. I had someone use Ajanni's +1 to nullify undying, which shocks/rages people the first time it is done to them.

You swapped in Mikaeus, the Lunarch and then swapped him back out. Good Mike seems like a solid fit in the deck, maybe not at the expense of a Precinct Captain , but he might be a nice SB piece for Ajanni or Bonds of Faith .

Trading well is not the idea; attacking for 2 with a one drop is where you want to be in a Standard aggro deck today. That's what makes BR Aggro so good, it has 3 cards that do that in Gravecrawler , Diregraf Ghoul , and Rakdos Cackler . White-based aggro gets War Falcon and Champion of the Parish for that role for the purposes of a human deck, although I just had a sudden moment of clarity that reminded me of Dryad Militant . I may try her out in a future update.

Scratch that, Dryad Militant is awful with Rally the Peasants . No wonder I never thought of her.
