Have you considered mentor of the meek? Or do you think it costs too much mana? Card Advantage is always fun :D

Mentor of the Meek is good when 1) the metagame is slow and 2) the power level of your cards are high. Unfortunately, neither of those qualifies here. Mentor of the Meek was fantastic with Elspeth Tirel and I used those two in combination for some cool stuff. Right now, Mentor's best friends are Lingering Souls , Gather the Townsfolk , and Sorin, Lord of Innistrad . As such, I believe he's great in a BW Tokens deck, but not here where all our creatures want to generate their value by turning sideways.

How do you hold against the midrange matchup?

I've been testing this against my Naya Midrange build (A slightly modified list from here: http://sales.starcitygames.com//deckdatabase/displaydeck.php?DeckID=51608) And I can't seem to beat it consistently...

Usually it starts heavy and early, slamming 15-18 damage down in the first couple turns...then it loses steam as Naya starts dropping Healers and Thragtusks then blinking them with Restoration Angel...are there any ways to concrete this matchup as favorable?

@Salazar968 Honestly, midrange is a really bad matchup for this deck. The old adage of "Aggro < Midrange < Control < Aggro ... " holds true here. Any midrange touching red is bad for us; Golgari and Selesnya are fine, Jund and Naya are awful. Pillar of Flame , Searing Spear , and Bonfire of the Damned are really good against aggro, especially aggro that doesn't include Gravecrawler . You usually have to hope for a card:Faith's Shield or a Bonds of Faith to push through damage, otherwise they overwhelm us. The sideboard makes things a bit easier with Riders of Gavony and more Bonds of Faith . Nearheath Pilgrim is also surprisingly good for the matchup, making sure their blows aren't as fatal before you swing back.

The best thing to do against midrange is to change the deck to include Zealous Conscripts somehow. It is an excellent card against Thragtusk and Centaur Healer , so find a way to work it in somehow if you expect to play a lot of midrange.

i know your deck is running quite well but have you considerd running Fencing Ace .

December 25, 2012 4:49 a.m.

ambeault says... #7

Oh and if your looking for a mid to late game changer try looking at card:Inquisitor's Flail. With first strike it pretty much nullifies the down side and makes it an awsome buffer.

DarkJesterGL says... #8

You should take out the Mikaeus, the Lunarch for a better aggro chioce, since this is an aggro deck, you don't need to plan for a late game

will do mate tho i will probs pull 3 plains and put in 3 of my cavern of souls in do deal with random control also i think maybe having 2 bonfire in the deck would help our first strike before we swing so that we can deal with their creatures a lot easier, cuz in my experience it makes ppl freak out and use their counter and solution cards a lot quicker then they want to and the lil extra damage is just plain nice. mikeus is an awesome man but i think i like a bonfire for him instead now I'm only suggesting those cards because i have them already available for me so i will keep you posted and let you know if that does a lil something for the deck since it don't need that much red anyway. hope to see some new updates in future FNM i will post mine as well so i will take notes when i go to the one in my town

@ambeault Fencing Ace is awful for this deck because I don't have many ways to reliably pump it. He's better in an enchantment-based deck with Rancor s and Ethereal Armor s. Besides, I have more two-drops than I know what to do with already. :P

card:Inquisitor's Flail is actually a really good suggestion, so I might try to find a way to work it in. I had problems running Silver-Inlaid Dagger in the first iteration of this deck, so I may try either of those two and see how they play out. I think the versatility of Bonds of Faith might still outclass the ability to reuse those equipment, though.

The Doctor says... #11

I really can only see the card:Inquisitor's Flail useful on the War Falcon and Angel of Jubilation , because the Meta right now doesn't have many counters to flying. Otherwise, somebody would just dummy-block whoever it's attached to.

The Doctor says... #12

Consider dropping the remaining card:Faith's Shield and maybe one Bonds of Faith from the mainboard, and splash blue for three Feeling of Dread .

FridayWing says... #13

Since you have a splash of red and your main objective is to overwhelm the board, why not use Hellrider or Riot Ringleader

January 5, 2013 9:19 a.m.

Jimhawk says... #14

@FridayWing Hellrider and "splash of red" are not ideas that work together. His 2RR mana cost requires a red commitment that I am unwilling to make. This is a white weenie deck, not a Boros deck, so he won't fit. And Riot Ringleader is just not a good card compared to other options; a Riot Ringleader is worth 5 damage with two other creatures out (his 2 power and three +1/+0 buffs), and 6 damage with three, 7 with four, and so on. Comparatively, Rally the Peasants is worth 4 and 6 respectively, then 8, 10, and so on. It scales better, but even more important is that it has more intrinsic value because it denies the opponent information until the very last moment. Rally also works better with first and double strike. Thanks for your suggestions, though.

As an aside, if this was a full-on Boros deck, Hellrider would take the place of Angel of Jubilation in a heartbeat.

FridayWing says... #15

I like your thinking bro. :) I love white weenie and Boros. I am waiting for the full gatecrash card list as I will be creating a boros deck but because of this list you have here, I am considering to make one like this. How does this deck fair on RDW? as well as UW flash deck? That is the Meta around the hobby shop I used to play.

zozma says... #16

why not put card:Angel of Glory's Rise?? 1 should be enough.

January 6, 2013 1:37 p.m.

The Doctor says... #17

Because the CMC on card:Angel of Glory's Rise is too much.

January 6, 2013 2:37 p.m.

Jimhawk says... #18

@zozma For the same reasons I don't use Gisela, Blade of Goldnight or even Angelic Overseer : I usually win on turn 4 or 5, and even if I don't, I usually don't get to 7 mana until approximately turn 12+. card:Angel of Glory's Rise is thus a dead card in probably 98% of the games I would play.

January 6, 2013 2:38 p.m.

Jimhawk says... #19

@FridayWing This deck is very strong against RDW. It has more creatures than they have burn spells, and its creatures are much better in combat than theirs. All the first strike completely dominates cards like Hellrider , Rakdos Cackler , and Stonewright . The two problem cards in that matchup are Stromkirk Noble and Pyreheart Wolf . A well-timed Bonds of Faith beats both of those cards, though, and card:Faith's Shield out of the side completely blows out their burn.

As for UW or UWR Flash, this deck is probably about 50/50 with it. With the number of creatures we play, their Azorius Charm s lose some value because they only end up taking out one out of our two or three attackers. UWR Flash is a bit harder than straight UW Flash because of all the Pillar of Flame s and the eventual Thundermaw Hellkite . The trick against UWx Flash is to play around their Restoration Angel s correctly. Feeling of Dread and Rally the Peasants are very useful in that regard.

@Jimhawk. You are awesome man! Simply awesome. I'd like to see you play using these deck. Please continue posting your battle report and just a lil bit more, I will be convinced to use this instead of a full pledge Boros. I am starting to lose interest on Boros based on the spoilers coming out. But still, hoping for the best.

I haven't played any tournaments in a while because of the holidays, but I will be back to weekly FNM updates starting this coming Friday. People at my LGS are starting to pack sideboard hate on me though D:

Don't give up on Boros just yet, as there's still a lot of space to fill that we don't know about. I'm personally excited to see if the sub-generals in Aurelia's army discussed in the Boros primer will get cards made after them and what they will bring to the table.

FridayWing says... #23

What do you think about the new Boros Charm , mate? :) My eyes are on this deck. lol

January 11, 2013 4:27 p.m.

Jimhawk says... #24

I'm already brewing with Boros Charm . It is absolutely bonkers in each mode, although the mode that grants double strike is probably usually worth as much damage as the first mode.

This deck will remain untouched until Gatecrash is released because I'll still be running this list at events. Once I get all the cards, I'll either update this deck accordingly or make an entirely new one.

I might put in Riders of Gavony for Knight of Glory as it looks like you have slightly to many two drops.
