TrexWantsHighFives thanks for the suggestion, i have been thinking about that card, i've found though, that whenever i have it in my hand, quite often there are also other cards in my hand that i'd really rather not discard, so that's a problem.will sideboard it maybe against blue.

XYZAP yep, but Nicol Bolas, Planeswalker is not in standard at the moment.I need some feedback on weather or not this deck can hold up in standard and also some suggestions on what to add or take away.

I feel like you are trying to do 2 different things. It looks like you want to be a Grixis Control deck but want to also play with Kolaghan and discard. My advice is to pick one way and go with it. The discard deck is VERY dependant on having loads of discard spells. (Durress, despise, thoughtsieze, dark deal, and Rakshasa's Secret being the most common). Control is a VERY different story. I suggest looking at the BU discard list to start and maybe go into red for Kolaghan and Kolaghan's command from there.
April 6, 2015 1:42 a.m.
TrexWantsHighFives yeah i realize this... i was thinking i could do black red control and use the black discard as a method of control as well as red burn to put their creatures in the graveyard too, so yes, i will probably take out blue. i want the deck to be built around Kolaghan's ability because everyone says he's crap but i like him haha.
April 6, 2015 3:22 a.m.
Yeah take out blue. I mean what is it helping with the opponents discarding cards to activate Waste Not's ability, besides Shu Yun, the Silent Tempest only gives creatures double strike and Keranos, God of Storms only helps in an extra card draw or does 3 damage. In my opinion blue doesn't go in the system of this deck.
April 6, 2015 11:45 a.m.
XYZAP yeah i can do that. just not sure what to replace it with, i guess maybe more burn for locking creatures into the graveyard... but i think i need just a couple more big creatures, or some utility creatures for early game defense

Why limit yourself to standard? In modern, you're open to Liliana's Caress, Whispering Madness (This ciphered onto Dimir Infiltrator is RIDICULOUS with the caress), Burning Inquiry and Abyssal Nocturnus... The list goes on. I'm picking up a couple Kolaghans myself for my grixis discard. Cool to see that someone else has a similar idea.

Run 4x Bloodstained Mire and switch Bloodfell Caves to Temple of Malice. Scry is superior to life gain and untapped lands will allow you to stay on curve.

Seconded. Deck-thinning and better quality will win you 10x more games than a few extra life, especially in b/r.

MTGbrewer of course its better haha, i can't really afford it though, the 2 bloodstained mire are cards i picked up in drafts and pre-releases.I cant afford more mires or temples just for mana fixing.

A few copies of Chromatic Lantern is another possibility, unless this is strictly standard. Modern discard is a lot more viable since the current meta is between "throw down slow creatures, beat someone to death" (Mardu/Abzan/Temur) and "hope to stall long enough to play spells that do no damage but can maybe win late game." (Jeskai/Sultai)

TwerkForSubway this is a standard deck, i thought the fact that every card is standard legal would make that obvious xDi am not playing modern.if i was playing modern, i'd have a completely different deck.
thanks anyway :)

Caharin good point, my reason against it was that it doesn't help with putting creatures away but i do need a sideboard for that kind of thing lol. Thanks!

This is my version of a similar deck idea. I personally like Mind Rot over Rakshasa's Secret since there isn't that much delve to fuel. Also Kolaghan's Command should be a 4 of, that card is bonkers especially if they have no hand and you play it in response to them leaving their draw step.

Also Master of the Feast is just counter intuitive as it gives them a chance to draw an answer.

My version probably also help if I put the link to mine

Thanks for the tips greensaleen my main reasoning for Master of the Feast is that it lets them bring more creatures into their hand for me to discard for Kolaghan's lockdown ability, as well as fuel for Waste Not during late game if they have no hand. Not to mention the fact that it's a hard to kill, hard to block 3 drop!
I can see why it seems counter intuitive, but i still feel like it works with this deck for those reasons. might swap it for something else later though when i play test this deck more :)
As for the Mind Rot i might use that and swap out my delve cards for basic black removal.
Will have a look at your deck too, thanks!! :D

damnable pact is something you should consider, if you put in another Dragonlord Kolaghan and a second Ugin, the Spirit Dragon you should include a haven of the spirit dragon. also Sarkhan's Triumph should be included. kolaghan really locks down your opponent and the sooner she is out the better.
also does anybody know if there is instant speed discard in standard right now? that could lead to some wild shennanigans with kolaghans effect
April 22, 2015 4:27 p.m.
j0sh1888 thanks!i can't afford a second Ugin, this one i got from a booster. A 4th Dragonlord Kolaghan is not necessary and even more not necessary if i have Sarkhan's Triumph although i will probably add that to the mainboard. i dont think i need Haven of the Spirit Dragon though if i can search for another kolaghan if she dies, and also i only have 3 dragon spells to play and by the time i bring her out i will already have atleast 1 red and 1 black mana.
I'm not sure why i need Damnable Pact though? it's a nice card but i am not really using much card draw, i also need to make sure i can survive long enough to bring out kolaghan so i cant really afford to pay much life for anything.
