This is my second take on Kothophed (hereafter outside of links, Koth) EDH -- brought to you in part by the good people of the Kothophed, Card Hoarder forum -- and I'd say it's by far the more successful one. It's also the build I actually own.

Kothophed, Soul Hoarder is a 6/6 for with flying, which is on its own a good deal. Factor into account that he draws for one life whenever a permanent an opponent owns is put into a graveyard ("from the battlefield" is redundant; it's a permanent, come on WotC) and he becomes insane! >:)

So, how to accomplish this? Kothophed, Soul Hoarder + Necromantic Selection targeting Koth is amazing. Curse of the Cabal starts early and puts in some cards later. Oh yeah, and Fleshbag Marauder and the functional reprint thereof now read, 2B: Each opponent sacrifices a creature, and you draw cards and lose life equal to the number of creatures sacrificed this way. INSANITY! The draw alone is enough to make Butcher of Malakir, Grave Pact and Dictate of Erebos shoe-ins as well.

Black is often limited to destroying creatures. This makes something like Nevinyrral's Disk great, right? Death Cloud too? Well, here's the catch: if you're casting Cloud where X=10 with Koth online, you will nearly always die in multiplayer from your own life loss.

That ends up kind of like an own goal in soccer. Well, in an attempt to offset that kind of embarrassment, I threw in some lifegain. However, there are a couple catches to that, too. One, we won't always have it, and two, we're playing monoblack. Our general's a demon. That's right, ladies and gentlemen, you guessed it: while maintaining a healthy life total is necessary to win or have a chance of winning, we don't care about our life total as much as we could. Feel free to Pestilence Demon yourself to death in response to lethal damage, among other hilarious options.

If indifference about your life isn't for you, we've got Sun Droplet, Whip of Erebos and Exquisite Blood to turn damage into life. Profane Memento is unassuming but it won't draw the hate of Bloodchief Ascension or die to creature-based wraths like Blood Artist, and can (over)compensate for Koth on its own. Chancellor of the Dross provides a neat Y-intercept and a tidy slope of lifegain if you can pull it off later. Alhammarret's Archive doubles the efficiency of draw like Koth and your lifegain to offset him. Sundial of the Infinite can prevent triggers from happening altogether on your turn, saving you life. Other than that and a couple other cute interactions, it's not a high-impact card on its own, so I haven't found a slot for it yet.

Note that I made this deck online, where the bulk of cards are significantly cheaper, e.g. anything in Vintage Masters. If you want to build and play this deck but can't afford Oblivion Stone, you're in for a treat! It may be less explosive, but KothophEDH is still playable without such cards.

I'm in the process of tuning the nonbasic lands and land base in general so if it looks like 30 Swamps + 7 pseudo-Swamps, it may be lol.

Since it's not uber-competitive (in fact, it's recently been retooled to be more fun, of all things) this deck works best in multiplayer EDH. And, although I'm not yet dedicated to it, this deck also has potential for a decent political suite. Infernal Offering already made the cut, but Hunted Horror, Tempt with Immortality and Forbidden Orchard are all worth considering.

Like this deck, this description is UNDER CONSTRUCTION, so you can expect plenty of changes. For now, enjoy the deck and be liberal with your life total :)
