zactrixo There are a couple problems with Kozilek, the Great Distortion in my opinion. His cast ability could be better than Kozilek, Butcher of Truth but it could also be worse. Annihilator 4 is better than Menace hands down. And his last ability is kinda weird, it could be good, but in commander, usually all your cards are important in some way or serve a purpose. So why would you want to be discarding things that you need? On top of all that, you lose the card recursion that Kozilek, Butcher of Truth gives you when he dies.

As a side note, Kozilek, the Great Distortion's discard ability doesn't do you any good if you don't have a card with the same mana cost as the card you want to counter. So if you think about all those things, Kozilek, the Great Distortion is less consistent than the Butcher.

when Kozilek, Butcher of Truth dies you can choose to have him go to the graveyard or command zone. I do not think it you choose command zone you will shuffle your graveyard into your library... right>?

Magic_Slayer I heard that you can have him go to graveyard, shuffle it into your library, then have him go to the command zone afterwards. I saw that in the description of another user's Kozilek EDH deck. I don't remember what the name of it was otherwise I would link it, but I could be wrong about the recursion thing. Even if I am wrong about that, the recursion was just a small bonus, it isn't the main reason for playing him. So, even if you don't get the recursion, it's still a better General than Kozilek, the Great Distortion, IMO.

I agree, and just recently did some digging and your right! It goes like this, let him hit Graveyard then that triggers shuffle, then with new rule he can go back to command zone! Bonus! sweet man.

Magic_Slayer Do you know what the rule is called cuz my friends are gonna get mad when I do that in game without an explanation lol, .nd thanks for finding out and letting me know. I thought it might have been hearsay but now I know it's a rule. Much appreciated!

Magic_Slayer I found the actual rule. It's rule 903.11, you can read it if you are interested in the exact wording. This is probably irrelevant by now but I figured I might as well link the actual rule just cuz we didn't link the official wording.

Dross Scorpion + Myr Turbine combos don't work but good deck anyways +1 from me. Tokens don't go to graveyard, they get removed from the game.

Clockwurk Rule 110.5f: A token that's phased out, or that's in a zone other than the battlefield, ceases to exist. This is a state-based action; see rule 704. (Note that if a token changes zones, applicable triggered abilities will trigger before the token ceases to exist.)

The Myr Turbine + Dross Scorpion combos DO work. I used the Myr Turbine + Dross Scorpion + Altar of Dementia combo last night and killed 3 players in one turn.

Thoughts on the new Kozilek as commander?

Well I believe Grinding Station works as well as Altar of Dimentia

NotSquishedYet He's pretty great! I can almost consistently get him out by turn 4, turn 5 at the latest usually.

iBurgerKing Yeah, it is, but I already have Altar and they are both 2 drops and I didn't know about Grinding Station until after I had finished the deck with Altar in it.

NotSquishedYet Sorry I misunderstood your question. The NEW Kozilek isn't as good as the old Kozilek in my opinion. It's less consistent and here's why. You could have more card draw, you could have less card draw. So that sucks, and his countering ability forces you to discard, and in EDH, usually the only cards in your deck are very important cards, so why would you want to discard important cards? Also his counter ability only works if you have a card that is THE SAME CMC as the card you want to counter. So even IF you have a card you are willing to discard, if the CMC of that card is different than the CMC of the card you want to counter, you can't do it. On top of all that, Menace is a terrible trade off for Annihilator 4. Annihilator 4 FAR outweighs Menace. Annihilator is soooooo much better.

March 6, 2016 8:20 p.m.

Fair point. I have found that he generally draws 5+ cards, and if you have any way to recur your graveyard, it is a powerful ability to counter spells. Annihilator doesn't matter much compared to menace if you have Prowler's Helm and Inquisitor's Flail. I, personally, enjoy being able to counter the occasional immediate win for free, but I have not tested the old one.

If I might ask, have you manually tested the new one as the commander for this yet?

NotSquishedYet I haven't had a chance to test him because I don't own him. But if you think about it, you don't need prowler's helm or inquisitor's flail if you are running Lightning Greaves Whispersilk Cloak Fleetfeather Sandals Swiftfoot Boots or Rogue's Passage Because he does 12 commander damage, you only have to hit your opponent twice, so have inquisitor's flail is nice, and you could definitely add it to this deck, but buy and large, it isn't needed, because you can usually protect Kozilek long enough to attack twice. I see what you're saying though, and if you like the new Kozilek, go ahead and run him, more power to you, but I usually find that when I need to get my commander out, I am usually around 4-6 cards in hand already so I would only draw 1-3 cards on average. IDK, I am leaving the country for 2 years and won't be playing Magic during that time so I likely will never test out the New Kozilek, but for the amount that I have played these last couple weeks, the old Kozilek is absolutely amazing.

March 6, 2016 8:44 p.m.

Alright. To clarify, I was specifically referring to the Whispersilk Cloak effect. Thank you for quickly answering - I see that, indeed, you have tested how he would work to a decent extent. Maybe someday... but for now, I am glad you are enjoying the old one, and have him figured out as a good commander! Good luck, and have fun out there.

Strixhaven Stadium can give you an alternate win con, worse case scenario it is a three CMC mana rock, it can go off fast with all the untap mechanics these decks usually run

As expensive as it is" Metalworker is hilarious, I have put out a T2 Kozilek in my list. Totally worth it

DawnsRayofLight Hey thanks! I'll look into the stadium and yeah, I totally agree about Metalworker, it's just stupid expensive, I'm working on getting one but it's a process haha. I'm about to make a couple changes to the list, take another look and tell me what you think.
