Kozilek, The Gas Pedal

The Great Distortion

Super Great Distortion

Kozilek, the Great Distortion

One of the three Eldrazi Titans, Kozilek is a formidable foe. With his abilities of card advantage and countering, many will be weary of this abomination long before he enters the battlefield.

Kozilek is the truth behind the merfolk myth of the trickster god Cosi, a reality-slicing abomination of relentless insanity. Kozilek represents themes of deception, puzzles, lies, mind domination, transformation, and experimentation. Sages call Kozilek the confusion of panic, the trap of enigmas, and the harrower of thought.

  1. The main idea of Kozilek, The Gas Pedal is to cast Kozilek, the Great Distortion as early as possible. In order to do this, the player will need to have/play as many mana rocks as early as the deck can muster. This will generally leave the player with approximately one or two cards in hand by the time they cast the commander, thus gaining optimal value from Kozilek, the Great Distortion's cast ability. Although the commander may be countered the first time, the ability triggered from cast still resolves and refills the players hand. This normally give the player one land and/or mana rocks needed to cast the commander the next turn.
  2. The counterspell ability Kozilek, the Great Distortion has is invaluable. The player need not be worried about discarding a card in order to stop a winning play. The older eldrazi titans Kozilek, Butcher of Truth and Ulamog, the Infinite Gyre will eventually shuffle the graveyard into the player's library.

  • Metalworker

    • If left untouched, this guy can be the bread to your commander's butter. Metalworker turn one is a very scary thing for your opponents. If this happens the best case scenario is the player will cast the commander without needing to activate Metalworker, refill their hand and activate Metalworker's ability landing more mana to lay down as many cards as possible. Earliest this might be seen is turn two. Worst case scenario, the player has to activate Metalworker to cast kozilek. Still has incredible value.
  • Mishra's Workshop
    • The best opening hand you can have will include this land. Laying down Metalworker turn 1 and having a maximum of 12 floating mana just from his ability is nothing to scoff at.
  • Mana Crypt
  • Mana Vault
  • Mox Opal
  • Mox Diamond
  • Eldrazi Temple

    • A land that generates two mana from the start? Yes, please.
  • Clock of Omens + Winter Orb

    • Dont have the turn one amazing hand but have Winter Orb? Keep it, the card will slow down your opponents so they cannot outrace you. With all the mana rocks the player will cast, lands themselves will not matter. And if it does, Scorched Ruins and Lotus Vale are sure to help out. Eventually, Clock of Omens will turn up and allow the player to tap the orb for your turn. This allows the player to then untap all their lands and still force their opponents to only untap one land a turn. Value.
  • Clock of Omens + non-mana artifacts
  • Phyrexian Altar or Ashnod's Altar + Kozilek, the Great Distortion

    • Allows the player to recast Kozilek to refill their hand if he is already on the field. Ideally sacrificed after he attacks. This also gives the player an additional blocker should they need one.

Tower just never seems to get used. Is always a dead card in my hand.

Planar Bridge is just strictly better.
