All will submit to the true masters of reality, or be annihilated

"A void as cryptic as reality itself"

~~~The deck is now 63% foiled~~~
Welcome to my pet deck that I've been building and refining over the course of 3 years or so. It's my favorite deck, and despite being colorless, it can stand tall and fight with some of the other big boy colored decks at FNM.
Why Kozilek, the Great Distortion and not the meaner Kozilek, Butcher of Truth? Butcher tends to draw a lot of hate in due to his annihilator ability. If I ran Butcher instead, I'd likely get hated out or killed harder than with the Great Distortion. Usually this approach works, but little do they realize, he's just a glorified draw spell. The real gas comes from within the deck. But Kozilek is not without his uses.
First of all, Kozilek, the Great Distortion is a powerhouse. He's a 12/12 with menace. That's enough to practically two-shot someone not running a creature strategy. Second, he has his conditional counterspell ability. It doesn't always apply to every situation, but when it does, it IS impactful. Odds are your opponents cannot respond unless they're packing a Disallow. Third, he draws up to 7 cards when cast. That's a huge advantage! Even if he were to be countered on the stack, he still refills your hand with enough gas to cast him again next turn.
Honestly, there's no better commander to run colorless with.
What's our overall goal?
We wanna generate tons of mana with artifacts, untap shenanigans, and Doubling Cube. From there we can either set up a purely oppressive board state with all the (legal) Eldrazi Titans or tutor up Walking Ballista and shoot the board down.
The ideal opening hand
The key here is either something to accelerate us past our opponents, or something that will slow them down to bring them down to our colorless level. Look for early Sol Ring, Mana Crypt, Mana Vault, and/or Voltaic Key/Manifold Key. To slow opponents down, get out a Winter Orb or Karn, the Great Creator. The sooner we get Kozilek out, the better. But ultimately, what we're digging for is Planar Bridge or Planar Portal, with enough mana to activate it.
Early Game
RAMP RAMP RAMP! We gotta get as much mana as fast as possible to keep up with all the colored decks that can fetch land, ritual, or draw. As long as we can guarantee a turn 3 or 4 Kozilek, we're golden. If not, we have some contingency options like stax pieces mentioned in the opening section above, as well as some admittedly expensive removal options. If for some reason we can't scrape by and get our commander out, it's best to get Ugin, the Spirit Dragon up and threaten or delete boards.
Late Game
Once we've set ourselves atop the foodchain, it's time to start digging for combos. Don't be afraid to get Kozilek in risky situations or straight up sacrifice him to Miren, the Moaning Well. We likely will need to get him off the field to recast to refill our hand. We NEED Planar Portal or Planar Bridge to really continue. Once you've secured those with a healthy amount of mana rocks, it's time to combo.
The Chad Rube Goldberg Combo
You'll need about 8+ mana's worth of rocks to make this magic happen. First, get your Planar Bridge. Spin the bridge and plop out Unwinding Clock. On the next player's turn, Bridge for Mirrorworks. On the next player's turn Sculpting Steel if you've got the mana to copy it. Have it enter as a copy of Mirrorworks and use 2 mana to copy it. This should leave you with 3 Mirrorworks. On the next player's turn, get Clock of Omens, you don't necessarily need to copy this. Now you can untap any artifact by tapping two artifacts. Move to your turn.
Make as much mana as possible and Bridge for Doubling Cube, being sure to leave two artifacts untapped to untap the bridge. Use the cube to double the extra mana you have. If it's not much, use the bridge to get Vedalken Orrery to continue this on the next player's turn, otherwise go grab any artifact you'd like. Trigger all three Mirrorworks so you have 4 of that artifact. Now use a combination of untap shenanigans with the Cube and Bridge to play most of your deck, accruing mana exponentially. Get Planar Portal and Portal for Walking Ballista and blow your opponents away with damage and your HUGE PULSATING BRAIN.
The Virgin Infinite Combo
Get yourself Metalworker and Staff of Domination with Swiftfoot Boots If necessary. Congrats, you now have infinite mana/draw power. Fish up Walking Ballista and kill everyone.
Just Hit People, Idiot
Sometimes combos just won't cut it. Use your massive Eldrazi monstrosities to slap people silly.
Removed:
  • Dark Depths - It's time to get real. This card just isn't very good in the deck. The Thespian Stage cheese strat just isn't worth, and I have better things to spend the mana on.
  • Sanctum of Ugin - I soured on this card after 4 years. Sacrificing a land to go get one creature can be good, but it puts me down a mana, and I don't have many creatures to begin with.
  • Staff of Compleation - Didn't turn out as good as I hoped. I just wound up hurting myself a lot for not a lot of payoff.
  • Chromatic Orrery - It's a beeg mana rock. I sure do like that, but unfortunately that second ability is worthless. And I can't even copy the thing to get better value.
  • Diamond Lion - It's a good card for sure. But it has summoning sickness and was all around kinda worthless in the late game.
Additional Thoughts:
Here we are again, 4 months-ish after the last update. Still haven't played much but it feels like there's so many new cards to try. Giving a few of these a shot.
I'm going to make a more conscious effort to go play at Commander nights to get better play data.
