I had Burn at the Stake in here for a while, but ended up removing it because it ends up being a 5 drop kill-one-person card, and at that point I might as well be using Goblin War Strike (also not in here). The primary weaknesses of this deck seem to be creature removal, bounce back after board wipes, and seeding the field with goblins to make krenko's initial taps more effective.

A buddy of mine plays a Krenko deck in our EDH play group. It doens't have as much Krenko-shenanigans as you do; I'll show this to him, see what he thinks. Vicious Shadows has been used to great effect though.

My hate for you both is deep and abiding. +1

Haha, thanks, I guess! oooh, Vicious Shadows , I'd forgotten about that.... Maybe replace Kyren Negotiations with it? Higher CMC so icky there, but if that isn't a great diplo/aggro card I dunno what is.

It's also good for deterring Wrath of God effects. Also, my buddy who runs Krenko did a hilarious combo with me to take down a high-life opponent using Vicious Shadows, Oona, Queen of the Fae , card:Ashnod's Altar, and Soul Conduit . A classic EDH moment.

I'd say keep Kyren Negotiations too. That way if there is a wrath, or perhaps someone has a mana-shield up (along the lines of Sphere of Safety or Collective Restraint , which I use to try and hold Krenko's swarm off), you can still deal damage.

You bring up a good point tmloyd, and I actually encountered that kind of thing last night with Lightmine Field and Rest in Peace both in play; Kyren Negotiations was my only wincon.

In other news, I've decided that this deck needs a more consistent mana base. Too often I am either screwed or flooded. Anyone have suggestions for things to cut?

Might I suggest Price of Glory ? Great card for multi-player where your deck depends on combos. I happen to have a very similar EDH Krenko deck and I believe yours is quite amazing. Thanks for the ideas.

I'm glad I could help! Price of Glory is something I've considered, but my group doesn't like non-targeted LD so it's not really a thing I wanna do. I just came across two cards that I'd like to see if there's space for though, if you wanted to help me out with some suggestions. Starstorm and Aftershock . I could really use more destroy effects instead of damage to creature effects, and more board wipes are always desired. Ideas?

What is belcher for? Is that a dumb question? Am I blind?

No Goblin Ringleader eh? Too slow? He's pretty good with goblin recruiter...

February 25, 2013 12:55 a.m.

Belcher is there for efficient damage to either players or creatures; it's a gamble but it's pretty reliable creature removal and direct damage otherwise as opposed to a combo piece. I've kept it in because every time it hits the board it gets removed, which is a pretty good indication that it's good.

No ringleader because it was too slow, yeah, but mostly because It's a 4 drop that doesn't doing anything while it's on the field or make more than 1 goblin. It's a legit card though, and if you can suggest something to replace i'd consider doing it.

Shattering Spree and Reverberate are another two I'd recommend. Reverberate due to multiple uses such as to copy Dragon Fodder and Shattering Spree is pretty good in multiplayer games. 5 mana to destroy 5 artifacts? Heck yeah. As for cards I'd take out of your deck... Maybe Shattering Pulse and card:Akroma's Memorial. I run 35 lands total in mine, try cutting down a few and see how it works. With my Krenko I try to have the mana cost max out around 4 or 5. Let me know if this helps.

Also.. Gratuitous Violence and for laughs, Goblin Snowman . Yeah.. I'll block your 13/13 Krosan Cloudscraper with my Snowman.. and I'll tap him to throw a snowball at Krosan dealing 1 damage!

I used to run 35 lands, but to consistently not be mana screwed 39 is what it takes for me. I once had shattering spree in here, but removed it for shattering pulse actually. Having repeatable instant speed removal I found to be more worthwhile than a single big sweep.

I understand what you mean by trying to max out at 4 or 5, but my meta is so removal heavy that being explosive is my best shot at winning. That means having more like 9 mana at my disposal if I don't have a board state (less if I do). The issue with the deck is that half the time I get a good amount of starting mana and half I wasn't; the 39 makes it consistently good.

Burn at the Stake seems like it would be good in this deck

February 26, 2013 5:11 p.m.

bdrichar says... #14

I had Burn at the Stake in here once, but with the amount of goblins I get out Goblin War Strike is more efficient. The problem with both, and why I haven't included them, is that they only kill a single player. Thank you for the input though!

Ah ok that makes sense. I'm pretty unfamiliar with EDH but I'm trying to build a deck. Any advice would be appreciated Don't Mind Me I'm Just Here to Dick Around

Uh, if they're using mana burn still then they can shove it up their ugly rears on mass LD. I use Jokulhaups and win every time I use it so... do it.

Ohthenoises says... #17

I can't believe your playgroup uses mana burn, that rule went the way of the do-do a long time ago. Next thing you know they will want to use the stack for damage.

April 3, 2013 11:35 p.m.

bdrichar says... #18

Eh, you'd be surprised how little it comes up. I've seen someone take mana burn maybe 4 times in the 3 years I've been playing with them? All it does is occasionally prevent people from doing stupid things like Mana Echoes .

April 3, 2013 11:58 p.m.

Ohthenoises says... #19

I know WHY it's there it just seems silly to cling onto rules that were changed for a reason. Your playgroup would do better by adding restrictions to the points awarded to punish infinite combos.

bdrichar says... #20

"Restrictions to the points awarded to punish infinite combos"? Can you explain?

The no infinite combos thing is my doing, I actually had to intentionally make the deck worse because it was comboing out too consistently. I don't like winning with infinite; I find it droll and pedantic.

Most shops play in a league for EDH. Usually you are awarded points for achieving certain things and deducted points for other things. I gather that this isn't how your playgroup plays.

April 4, 2013 9:51 a.m.

bdrichar says... #22

Nah, we don't play in a shop. My university has a largeish group of magic players, and we do fnm on our own; much nicer and less expensive than playing at the local quarterstaff.

April 4, 2013 10:43 a.m.

We're starting a league soon where I live. I refuse to play because Akroma, My Wife would destroy my point total since I refuse to remove my Jokulhaups but people will use infinite combos to win every time unless I burn them first. I feel your pain.

April 4, 2013 11:26 a.m.

bdrichar says... #24

Indeed. Tl;Dr my meta is high skill and highly competitive with a willful disregard for mass LD and infinite combos. Competecasual?

April 4, 2013 11:38 a.m.

Competecasual, since if I used Jokulhaups on my turn 6 before the first turn 7, I'd lose (in a 4 player pod) 12 points for mass LD. If that counts as any past 3 on the each person. If it's just 3, that's 21 points lost. I think that's utter BS but infinite combos are all right. So I might join the league just to screw with them all.
