Hello! So I finally been able to test out my version of Kruphix! And I toned it down a lot and my playgroup still hate it! LOL But I was wondering how well Oracle of Mul Daya and Teferi, Mage of Zhalfir have been working? Arnt you worried that with Oracle you'd show the whole table if you drew a counter spell or AEtherspouts....etc? And does the flash that you get from teferi, really help a whole lot and when he is played does he get hated out really quick?

Oracle of Mul Daya is amazing, tends to net me more ramp than Azusa, Lost but Seeking because of that extra deck peek and scry abuse. The thing is....them knowing you have an aggressive control spell or counter in hand doesn't really augment how you will play it if you know how to spot counter bait. Heck the table might make brief political alliances with you because of what they know is in your hand, which buys you time...time wins you the game. The reveal rarely hurts you because there's really not much they can do to stop it, plus the board tends to get wiped every 6 or so turns so its not like its an effect that lasts all game, even if you don't chump block with it after you've emptied your hand of lands.

Teferi, Mage of Zhalfir gives your creatures flash and makes everything you play uncounterable, which is indispensable against blue decks and comes in extreme handy more than you'd think. Him having flash built in lets you vomit your hand on their turn after flashing him in (oh how i miss the bygone days of yore with Prophet of Kruphix). Depending on your brew Leyline of Anticipation, Vedalken Orrery, or having both Alchemist's Refuge and Winding Canyons might serve you better. Having some flash tech with this commander is almost essential

Ah alright, looks like I'll be buying an oracle sometime soon then, I do have Leyline of Anticipation and also Alchemist's Refuge I think that'll be enough flash when I do put in Teferi, Mage of Zhalfir I also noticed with my deck that I may need an Akroma's Memorial in order to finish the game, one of my favorite cards The Great Aurora tends to net me atleast a 20 card hand (with the extra mana you have from kruphix) which is HILARIOUS you essentiall get a full turn when your opponents only have lands and maybe the instants they havent used already. Though other than Memorial, I dont know what other green/blue creature(s) give haste. And also does Desertion work for planeswalker spells aswell? (my B.F plays an atraxa deck thant turn 4'd ulted one of the kiroa's it was so bad having 3 8/8's but im really surprised how resilient Kruphix is.

Bababad says... #4

sadly, Desertion only works for artifacts and creatures....Aethersnatch hits planeswalkers though :)

Akroma's Memorial really brings the game to a close and hits the board with a thud, really helps you stabilize your board state against a lot of decks, regardless of color.

and The Great Aurora certainly is an interesting take.

id be worried that it would set up my opponents too much, but if it has been working for you, that's hilarious :)

Zerraphon says... #6

yeah thats what i was thinking and i didnt really read the text of Desertion ops... but good thing i bought a shit ton of cards like Aethersnatch it'll be fabulous! LOL How does Vigor work? does it really do a whole lot? Like does it prevent the table from attacking you?

July 5, 2017 4:57 p.m.

Zerraphon says... #7

yeah its funny, had about 8-10 lands while my 20+ land ghave deck came to 4 and the atraxa deck had do discard like 13 something cards! It was great

Bababad says... #8

Vigor stops them from swinging on you and forces damage through when they don't want to essentially buff your creatures

It transforms combat for as long as it's out.

Hey again so i was wondering how well Rhonas the Indomitable works with the deck? And if you've ever seen/heard of a card called Plaxmanta do you like Thassa, God of the Sea more so than Lifecrafter's Bestiary? Sorry im asking a whole lot, I dont get to play a whole lot of edh andI just bought like every simic and kruphixy green/blue cards!

Bababad says... #10

It's absolutely no trouble, defending my card choices gives me renewed perspective :)

Rhonas the Indomitable is an absolute workhorse in this deck. Imagine having 40+ mana floating around and resolving him and literally any other body, Snapcaster Mage is the usual sidekick for me. Swinging for 20 on a body that has no business swinging 20 is definitely in the spirit of UG

Plaxmanta is a wonderful, wacky card. Has more uses in 60 card constructed in my experience though. Neurok Stealthsuit and Lightning Greaves will likely do more work for you in EDH.

Thassa, God of the Sea and Lifecrafter's Bestiary are fairly interchangeable, with the current meta I felt like I needed more ways to cheat damage through. Her activated ability is a wonderful mana dump and can force 10+ damage through when I really need to or just provide a constant source of damage by forcing big booties through for cheap.

Ah alright! Yeah Im having problems cutting some cards but i did make room for Rhonas and thassa, since i have cards youu dont in my deck like Artisan of Kozilek and Craterhoof Behemoth, Avenger of Zendikar, Phyrexian Metamorph ect.... Im just not sure how well the deck'll run so i have my eyes of if i have to many copy effects than nessesary and if Constant Mists and Capsize will do some work for me considering the as you cast rules (which is the main reason im running it and also has the benefit of elusiveness) but I guess we'll see xDDD Thanks for the input!! I have a EDH night at my gamestore and I want Kruphix to do VERY well xD

My buddy had to liquidate some cards to fix his car, so among other things...I obtained a Pact of Negation which is running splendidly thus far

you bet your sweet bippy that tishana is going to find a slot in here, the only thing I can see parting with atm is Pull from Tomorrow since they fulfill similar roles.

Azusa, Lost but Seeking has been a fairly dead draw as of late, gonna test Vizier of the Menagerie for a week or so to see if the utility of giving my colorless mana color is worth the slot.

Mana Drain reprint in iconic masters should push this card into the realm of availability pricewise for me. Definitely will go in over Counterspell when I do

Bababad says... #16

As much as I would love having Growing Rites of Itlimoc I don't belive I can reliably hit the 4 creatures to flip it, and in that situation 4+ mana isn't going to make a huge difference.

Search for Azcanta however is super useful hand fixing early game, instantaneous ramp/dig mid game, and reliable dig with unused mana sounds incredibly useful.

Vizier of the Menagerie is a very welcome change, have had nothing but smooth hands and silly plays since I swapped him in.

Garruk, Caller of Beasts because why wouldn't you want another way to cast creatures for free

September 12, 2017 10:11 p.m.

Bababad says... #18

Haven't gotten to test that garruk before! In the past it has proven quite difficult to protect a planeswalker to the point where they are useful unless they do something for me the turn they hit the board. My meta has an excessive amount of nonland permanent removal.

In this case, he fills a 6 drop slot (which is already shared by 8 cards).

His + is pretty handy, but I forsee me shipping a lot of control cards I would have much preferred keeping.

His - only hits around 16 creatures (many of which are timing dependent, meaning I usually play them at instant on opponents turns) and a lot of the time I would have much preferred playing them with the 6 mana I had to invest in playing him. Since I can play any card in deck with 5 mana sources because of Kruphix's ability, id likely rather store that 6 mana or play the creature that turn. Even if he can repeatedly do the ability the subsequent turns, I don't see having enough relevant green creatures to justify the - and it would force me to play off tempo quite often.

His ult is certainly impressive, but I don't think I could protect him until he ulted.

The only walkers in deck currently are Nissa, Steward of Elements because she is an extremely useful hand fixer early game, with scry effects / Vizier of the Menagerie / Oracle of Mul Daya I can effectively use her neg, and her ult is repeatable in this deck when I play her for 20 mana. there is also Nissa, Vastwood Seer  Flip that literally acts as a Wood Elves that has card advantage late game.

I've tested quite a few over the years, but there is always an issue if they cannot protect themselves efficaciously:

Nissa, Worldwaker People kept instant speed wiping when I used her ult, her other abilities were trace useful but I got tired of losing lands.

Garruk, Primal Hunter was in the original brew of this deck, essentially got taken out because he didn't affect the board overmuch and was a terrible topdeck if I couldn't massive draw the turn I played him.

Garruk Wildspeaker was pretty consistent, but didn't do enough except ramping me a little early game.

Tamiyo, the Moon Sage did a fair amount, but the ult takes forever to hit.

Kiora, the Crashing Wave actually pushed me forward, protected itself, and could ult reliably...but Panharmonicon recently replaced her.

gonna play around with Cloudstone Curio this weekend after some more than gentle prodding from my gf. Seems like it will do more work for me in the long run than Asceticism which was generally just used to solidify my game winning turn, which isn't super needed nowadays.

Got my hands on two Thaumatic Compass foils at prerelease and I absolutely adore strictly better Journeyer's Kite

In here it gives me something to use my mana on before papa comes down. Curving into one mana acceleration, fixing my hand early game, guaranteeing reliable land drop, and a free Maze of Ith is pretry pushed in edh.

And the flip land foils in this set are amazing if you haven't seen yet

Drain Power, Elite Arcanist, Thran Dynamo, Courser of Kruphix Are all cards I could see as being useful in this deck.
Mycosynth Lattice could also be something to consider. It helps with utilizing big Kruphix's ability to turn extra mana colorless.

Also if you're going to go the route of having a large hand, then Psychosis Crawler can be deadly.

September 26, 2017 12:10 p.m.

Bababad says... #23

Thanks for the recs! I've played around with most of these cards in here at one time or another, but its always good to reassess for the most current build. You never know what could pop up and be abusable. So let's see:

Psychosis Crawler has been in the top 5 cards I've wanted to integrate into this build for some time. In testing it isn't the most substantial 5 drop and seems to only be desirable when im abusing Prime Speaker Zegana triggers or Rishkar's Expertise, which makes it kind of a win more unless im facing stax/prison variants. It does next to nothing for board state or tempo and as a standalone card its neat but not super variable.

Courser of Kruphix was in the brew for quite awhile, it was only replaced by Azusa, Lost but Seeking who herself has fallen out. Sakura-Tribe Elder, Shaman of Forgotten Ways, and the newly added Thaumatic Compass fill the niche incredibly well currently. Sylvan Library, Nissa, Steward of Elements andThassa, God of the Sea usually fix my hand more efficaciously which in turn lets me hit the lands I need and ship the ones I don't early game. For the most part I only need 5 mana sources to play anything in this deck efficiently and courser tended to sit in hand, hit the board like a pillow falling onto the floor, and telegraphed my draws a little too much for too little benefit. I originally dropped this guy and Azusa because they were horrible topdecks late game and don't necessarily gain me tempo.

Thran Dynamo is an amazing card, but until about turn 7 I'd rather leave my mana open to respond with or at least bluff a counter/response and flash in something else with Teferi, Mage of Zhalfir, Winding Canyons, or Alchemist's Refuge. I would likely put Sol Ring back in before dynamo because it all but guarantees a turn 3 kruphix, past that I don't have a need multi mana rocks. Simic Signet was swapped in for Sol Ring recently just to give color to my floating colorless mana in a pinch.

Drain Power seems pretty cool, but early game I would primarily want it to play kruphix and I couldn't assure id have 3 blue/1 green to reliably do that (presuming im not getting green or blue from the spell itself). Outside of that, the sorcery speed of the spell really kills it for me. I don't feel like jumping through hoops to empty someone's mana options during their untap phase (with flash enablers) is worth it to me if the card doesn't let me reliably ramp out to papa or do much besides that. For the most part a counterspell does the same job early game, and late game the ramp is negligible or win more. Not multitool enough for me currently, but I will test the card out in my planeswalker deck :P

Elite Arcanist is a pretty cool guy, combos for days, but really easy to remove. My meta would eat him alive, especially since Elesh Norn, Grand Cenobite is so prevalent and a standalone deck I see weekly. I don't want to lose the initial casting of the exiled instant when someone removes him in response because it robs me of the graveyard access to the spell after the fact, which is something I capitalize on and plan around most games. I feel bad even flashing back instants sometimes, when Eternal Witness effects let me recast them 4 or more times a game if needed.

Mycosynth Lattice is an amazing card that I do not currently own. I'm not sure I could justify it in the 6 cmc slot in this deck even if I had it though. It would have to compete with Rishkar's Expertise, Progenitor Mimic, Duplicant, and Prime Speaker Zegana, all of which are workhorses in this build. Currently testing Vizier of the Menagerie to give color to papa's mana and he is doing amazingly well. The non-reveal peek options have also played a major factor in recent games, so much so that it might justify him in slot over the mana fixing.

Happy to do it! superhuman21

Thanks again for taking the time to peruse and recommend. Defending my picks is a very productive exercise for me and usually prompts thought into combos/synergies I could be capitalizing on.
