General
Since I started playing MTG I wanted to play some Eldrazi's and the EDH-format allows me to do so in a perfect way (you really get the chance to play the guys and you don't have to pay like 500$ because you only need them once). Ramping is something i really enjoy and so I decided to choosed Mr. Manastore alias Kruphix, God of Horizons to be my commander. Below I try to share the basic ideas of the deck, hope you enjoy :)
Ramp
Ramp is the key here. You want to play Ulamog, the Infinite Gyre? Ramp for it! That's what your commander is about. Let's have a closer look on his ability: "If unused mana would empty from your mana pool, that mana becomes colorless instead."meaning, that you can stock your mana. You can play Kruphix turn 4/5, use no mana at all the next turn (let's say you have 6 unused mana) or you save it for a Counterspell and just before it is your turn again, tap all mana sourced you got to have 12-13 mana avaiable for the next turn. You won't hit a devotion of 7 very early, so your commander will be quite hard to remove as long as it does not get exile-hated.So, as soon as Kruphix is camping on your board he helps you to reach high mana levels, but you want to get him there ASAP and you want to generate as much mana as possible to hit somthing like a Genesis Wave for like = 20 very early.
To do so we have the basic green ramp-mechanics like Cultivate + Kodama's Reach
, Harrow, Nature's Lore (to get your Breeding Pool), getting supported by creatures as Birds of Paradise, Coiling Oracle, Oracle of Mul Daya etc. I was pretty surprised finding Dreamscape Artist, a BLUE card that basicly transforms the cards in your hand into a Harrow's (except you pay instead of ). All in all, I count 16 ramping cards with cmc 4 or less, including Frontier Siege, that's even stronger if Kruphix is in play, giving 4 each turn (honestly, you only choose Khans...).Once you get a "little bit" of mana (around 12 in turn 5-6 if you draw lucky and use your commanders ability) and you don't have someone big to play there are also some heavy ramp cards following. First of all, King of mana Vorinclex, Voice of Hunger. Setting him on the board is like launching an atomic rocket. Your lands suddenly tap for 2 mana each, and your enemys are slowed down massivly. Let them use 5 mana to remove this guy, still worth, you can tap all your remaining lands for a nice amount of mana and they got 5 less mana to spend during their next turn. He will be a primary target, but so are the other big boys you play. Talking about doubled mana, let me mention other cards like Doubling Cube, Mana Reflection and Zendikar Resurgent that will let you generate so much. AND don't forget about Seedborn Muse, this sweet 2/4 body is shit, but it's effect is amazing, multiplying the amount of generated mana with the number of players! Sad thing Prophet of Kruphix is banned in EDH, I guess I don't need to explain the synergies...
Card Draw
130 mana in your pool are pretty useless if you can't use them. So we got a couple of drawing mechanics in this deck (our luck we play blue, huh?). Drawing starts with Coiling Oracle, Solemn Simulacrum, ofc Rhystic Study and - even if not directly - with Courser of Kruphix, Oracle of Mul Daya and Future Sight. The threats you play are big boys, so investing in Greater Good does not sound bad at all. The newest support in this deck is Rashmi, Eternities Crafter, who can Cascade and escalate in response to fat Creatures or X-spells like Bluze Sun's Zenith even in the enemys turn. What makes him so good in my oppinion is his flexibility. He says you MAY cast it, meaning you don't have to Counterspell your Kozilek, Butcher of Truth, you simply draw this nasty blue card to protect him instead :) . Consecrated Sphinx is simply halarious, nothing more to say here. All in all I count something like 20 cards that enable card draw (did i mention Jin-Gitaxias, Core Augur, Vorinclex' retarded brother <3 ?).
other support
You run blue, you run big creatures, you have to protect them somehow... Sherlock, lets combine, ah, counterspells might work. I included only 4 of them, I want to have fun and not jelling "no" for an entire game. They can be relevant to win a match in critical situations. In addition to preotect my guys I play Asceticism and Swiftfoot Boots (they are also really painful when you equip an Annihalator 4 guy to visit an enemy the same turn he got played btw). Flashing in creatures might also be a nice addition, so I decided to put Alchemist's Refuge and Leyline of Anticipation (what will never show up in your opening hand btw -.-) into the deck. Sadly Karn Liberated and Ugin, the Spirit Dragon are to much hated to get their ultimated (I wonder why), but they still are doing a good job exiling things (and getting hated... still dreaming of Tamiyo, the Moon Sage's emblem, but there is no reason for just thinking about ordering it one day...).Eternal Witness can pick up anything for a second try and Thassa, God of the Sea starts controlling your draws very early.Having Thought Vessel and Reliquary Tower is a nice back up if you just drew 50 cards and your commander get's exiled. If you hit 9 mana Tooth and Nail is just halarious, too. You can search and bring into play nasty combinations like Avenger of Zenikar + Progenitor Mimic or Jin-Gitaxias, Core Augur
+
Psychosis Crawler
... or you simply go for Eldrazil or Praetors.
How to win
Well, obviously you got your fatties to do this job, but there are different mechanics. Guys like Avenger of Zendicar + Hydra Broodmaster can flood your board (Avenger and Boundless Realms/Rite of Replication/Progenitor Mimic is just insane) and Nylea, God of the Hunt let those tokens trample to victory. The cute Primordial Hydra simply say's: "cu".
A really nice finisher (and reason why I run Mystical Tutor) will be Genesis Wave. When played for X >= 12 it will get everything out of this deck. If X > 30 it is close to instand gg. As soon as you got Psychosis Crawler you can melt down your enemys. Why? He sais: whenever you draw a card, each opponent loses 1 life. Outch. Let's say you hit the Crawler, some 10-attack Eldrazi and Prime Speaker Zegana... 11 life less for each opponent, doubling this amount if you add a Progenitor Mimic no matter if it clones the Prime Speaker or the Crawler. You also can hit the Avanger and a couple of lands generating, let's say 10 5/6 tokens. Sacrifice them into Greater Good for the same Effect.
Summary
This deck was created for fun. It got a nice winning potential, but not vs control-heavy decks or land destruction. It works best in multiplayer and makes most fun there (I prefere things like 2v2) espacially after 1v1 commander is set to 20hp (wtf).I hope you enjoyed this tour throught my deck, feel free to leave comments :)
