Kruphix: Endless Possibilities

Modern*

alexs3

Somewhat of a Midrange Blue green deck. The stars of this deck are Kruphix, God of Horizons himself and the Prophet of Kruphix. This deck revolves around card advantage and obtaining large amount of mana to drop some huge bombs and go in for the kill.

In the early game I focus on getting Elvish Mystic and Kiora's Follower out for the mana ramp so I can start playing some of my 5 drops and get control of the field as soon as possible. Midgame I try to drop Prophet of Kruphix and start flashing on creatures like Prognostic Sphinx to start damaging my opponent. Late game this deck is almost unstoppable if Prophet of Kruphix stays on the field and I am able to get Kruphix, God of Horizons, AEtherling, or Arcanis the Omnipotent + Kiora's Follower out.

Kiora's Follower is a crux of this deck as it allows me to untap Bow of Nylea to gain 6 life per turn (or more with multiple Kiora's or prophet on the field), which helps me survive against more aggressive decks until I can get Kruphix or prophet out and start accumulating massive amounts of mana and flashing creatures out. Kiora's Follower also untaps Arcanis the Omnipotent which leads to some ridiculous card draw if prophet is out to untap both of them during an opponents turn. This is even more ridiculous if Kruphix, God of Horizons is on the field and allows me to keep all the cards in my hand. Also, I do not have to worry too much about discarding cards because Bow of Nylea is able to put them on the bottom of my deck again.

Foresee and Prognostic Sphinx are there to make sure I get the right cards. Sphinx has the added bonus of being a bulky blocker with flying and is hard to remove because of hexproof. Also Temple of Mystery helps with scry and untaps on my opponents turn if prophet is out.

Boon Satyr is mostly there because it adds some power to the otherwise toughness heavy deck. It is able to make prophet unkillable by Lightning Strike and Stoke the Flames or is able make Prognostic Sphinx into a nasty flying 7/7. I kinda want to switch Boon Satyr for Courser of Kruphix, partially because of the Kruphix flavor, but also because of the synergy it will add with helping my draw my creatures instead of lands. However, I am still hesitant to buy like 2 or 3 coursers for like 8 bucks each so for now Boon Satyr works.

I have a bit of control with several Dissolve, to disrupt the opponent and also make sure I get what I need. Simic Charm is highly versatile and is there mainly to protect Prophet of Kruphix and Kiora's Follower from removal cards, but is also handy for making Prognostic Sphinx a 6/8 , or I can stall by bouncing a threat. I also have Curse of the Swine to deal with creature heavy decks. My favorite combo if Prophet of Kruphix is out is using Curse of the Swine on my turn to change my opponents creatures to pigs then using an overloaded Cyclonic Rift to completely wipe the board of my opponents creatures, and since they are now tokens, none of them go back into my opponents hand but are discarded.

AEtherling is my main answer to control decks. If it resolves and I have some leftover blue mana it is almost impossible for my opponent to get rid of. I almost always have enough mana to make it unblockable, swing for 8, pay to exile and have it able to block for me next turn if needed. One possiblity I have with AEtherling + Simic Charm is using the charm to make Aetherling a 7/8 then pumping it to make it an unblockable 14/1.

Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx is the perfect card for this deck as it allows me to spend two mana to gain 5 or more mana per turn in most cases. The mana gain with this card is exponential if Kruphix, God of Horizons is there to store it at the end of the turn or Prophet of Kruphix or Kiora's Follower is there to untap Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx so I can tap it again on my opponents turn. The mana ramp this card gives with Kruphix himself and Prophet is insane and allows me to drop a 10/10 or greater uncounterable Mistcutter Hydra by like turn 6.

This deck does have problems against hyper aggressive decks that aim to win by turn 3 or 4 as I am unable to achieve any of my combos by then unless I use Bow of Nylea and Kiora's Follower to stall until I can get a win condition. Also fast burn decks pose somewhat of a problem because both Kiora's Follower and Prophet of Kruphix, which I rely heavily on for synergy, are both very vulnerable against common removal cards such as Searing Blood, Lightning Strike, Drown in Sorrow, Doom Blade, Bile Blight, and Anger of the Gods.
