This is my first attempt at an EDH deck. I just looked through my small collection to find a suitable commander and Kruphix, God of Horizons stuck out to me. My philosophy when building this deck was to draw and ramp up to some large creatures, Hydras, Krakens, etc.
Starting with my mana base, I decided to go with 37 land. Thornwood Falls, Llanowar Reborn, Unknown Shores, Simic Guildgate, Command Tower and Reliquary Tower are my non-basic lands. I just went with 15 Island and 16 Forest.
In my opinion, the ramp package could use some work. I have Urban Evolution, Burnished Hart,
Embodiment of Spring
, Courser of Kruphix, Cultivate and
Spoils of Victory
to search my deck with.
Interpret the Signs
,
Tower of Fortunes
and Treasure Cruise for draw, in case I'm not getting what I need.
Urban Burgeoning
,
Verdant Haven
, Kiora's Follower,
Karametra's Favor
and Dictate of Karametra all provide either additional mana, or mana fixing, along with a Sol Ring.
The control package in this deck hopes to take advantage of all the colorless mana I will have laying around my mana pool. Curse of the Swine is the big board sweeper, while Windstorm can be used if I am being overwhelmed by flyers. Hour of Need
+
Windstorm
can be used in conjunction to sweep the board of any unwanted creatures, as I have very few flyers in this deck. Bramblecrush and
Roar of Challenge
are my only single target removal.
Time Ebb
,
Sea God's Revenge
, and Whelming Wave will be used to keep threats off the board, temporarily.
Icy Blast
, Blustersquall, and
Downpour
will mainly be used as combat tricks, to either help push damage, or prevent me from getting overrun.
Consign to Dust
is my artifacts/enchantments sweeper. Lastly I have 2 counterspells,
Spell Blast
and Dissipate.
Restock, Pull from the Deep,
Reviving Melody
and Regrowth all are there to pull back from my graveyard. Give / Take,
Predator's Rapport
, and Solidarity of Heroes are all there to take advantage of the counters on my big creatures.
Nylea's Presence
exists for Islandwalk and the couple creatures that can't attack unless my opponent controls an Island. Profane Memento is just in there cause, honestly, I thought it was neat.
The creature package in this deck is monstrous, literally. There are 5 monstrous creatures. Polukranos, World Eater and
Arbor colussus
double as removal. Sealock Monster helps fix Islandwalk.
Shipbreaker Kraken
helps control the boardstate, and Fleetfeather Cockatric is just a bad mother. next we have 4 Hydra type creatures. Mistcutter Hydra provides blue hate and haste, while Vastwood Hydra can provide counters in the event of its death. Primordial Hydra can become ridiculous if left alone even a couple turns, and
Nimbus Swimmer
is just a nice flyer. Kalonian Twingrove and Hydra Broodmaster provide extra board presence.
Nessian Game Warden
, Windreader Sphinx and Courser of Kruphix provide card advantage. Renegade Krasis, Archetype of Endurance, Tuskguard Captain and
Crowned Ceratok
all provide bonuses to your other creatures. There are 5 creatures that don't really fit into any of the other categories.
Kavu Predator
provides lifegain hate.
Sagu Mauler
is just a big baddy.
Witchstalker
provides blue/black hate and has synergy with several cards in the deck. I'm not sure how
Meandering Towershell
will work out, but it seems cool and I wanted to give him a shot. Stormtide Leviathan can just break a game in my favor if put into play at the right time.
Lastly I have two Walkers. Kiora, the Crashing Wave has 3 great abilities for this deck. Her +1 can keep an opponents big baddy in check, her -1 helps with ramp and card advantage, and her -5 just breaks games wide open. Nissa, Worldwaker is also ridiculous. Both her +1 abilities are useful, and her ultimate, though not as useful, can still have some utility if you play her early enough.
I just used cards I had on hand for this deck, so clearly it isn't perfect. I am looking for suggestions on more ways to take advantage of Kruphix, God of Horizons no max hand size ability. Also, cheaper, faster ways to ramp. Any and all suggestions are appreciate. Cheers!
