Hello friends of cultivated madness.

A little anecdote why I built this deck. This deck was actually created due to a stupid comment from a fellow player. He once said that I only play combo decks and that I could build a Simic-Merfolk deck for a change. Well ... callange accepted.

(oO) That's what came of it ... I think he meant something else, but it's Simic and has a Merfolk commander.

Short deck summary / survey:

  1. Hard combo mana-ramp/generate
  2. Lots of interaction with your own board
  3. Instand win with Laboratory Maniac
  4. Over run all opponent with X X/X Hydra/Ooze to win
  5. A pinch draw-draw and defense.
  • You like combo decks

  • You like to generate an absurd amount of mana

  • You like copying things and adapting them to your needs.

  • You have no problem with it if you are relatively vulnerable

  • You mainly like to play with big creatures or fast aggro decks

  • You like to play spellslinger / classic strom decks

  • You are someone who likes to control the whole game

  • You do not like calculating or long turns

  • OK, let's see if I can say something about the deck and what I thought.

At first I thought about how I might / would like to win. First, the obvious: with the ability of Thrasios, Triton Hero successively draw the whole deck and win at the end with Laboratory Maniac. Of course, then I thought about how to get the easiest way. The answer was quite simple, namely a huge or unlimited amount of mana. In order to create the critical mass of mana, the second possibility of winning has already arisen. Since I like to use certain copy effects, Mechanized Production has inserted seamlessly. A little further down I show what options I have taken in the deck. Then it came to me what one could do with so much mana to win, even if Thrasios, Triton Hero is not available. Walking Ballista, Gelatinous Genesis and Hydra Broodmaster I found then as a good means to purpose.

The last two Hydra Broodmaster and Gelatinous Genesis are very unexpected in an artefact kombo deck. If you then unexpectedly confront your opponents with 50 50/50 Hydra/Ooze or theoretically / Hydra/Ooze, it will provide thrill at the table.

OK let's take a look at our mana machine that will make it all possible. First of all, the endless combos. Of course, there are still some complex possibilities, but normally you will find combo pieces, which simply work. So I will describe the most common ones here.

The combo components: Dramatic Reversal + Isochron Scepter + at least three mana from mana rocks

The way of functioning: Actually pretty easy and self-explanatory.

    1. You play Isochron Scepter and imprint Dramatic Reversal.
    2. Create at least three mana of mana-rocks. You best create blue or green mana, which comes from Gilded Lotus or Astral Cornucopia. Of course you can also use other mana sources like Thran Dynamo, Everflowing Chalice, Mana Vault, but this is completely colorless.
    3. This uses to activate Isochron Scepter and play a copy of Dramatic Reversal, thus untap all your non-lands.
    4. Make the same mana with mana-rocks again as in step 2 and you have one mana more than before.
    5. Repeat step 3-4 and you have unlimited mana.
The combo components: Voltaic Key + Rings of Brighthearth + Astral Cornucopia or Everflowing Chalice with four or more countern

    The way of functioning:

    1. Tap Astral Cornucopia or Everflowing Chalice for four or more mana.
    2. Use one mana to activate Voltaic Key and target Astral Cornucopia or Everflowing Chalice, than the ability is put on the stack.
    3. In response use two mana and activate Rings of Brighthearth and target the Key´s ability on the stack. So the ability will copy and you can choose new targets for it, so you will target Voltaic Key. Then when the abilitys on the stack become resolved Voltaic Key and Astral Cornucopia/Everflowing Chalice get untaped. At this time you have exactly one mana in the pool.
    4. Now you can repeat the steps 1-3 to create one mana for every repetition. So you can generate unlimited mana.
The combo components: Basalt Monolith + Rings of Brighthearth + two mana from other sources

    The way of functioning:

    1. Tap Basalt Monolith to generate three mana.
    2. Activate Basalt Monolith second ability to untap it, than the ability is put on the stack.
    3. In response use two mana and activate Rings of Brighthearth and target the untap ability on the stack. So the ability will copy and you can choose new targets for it, so you will target Basalt Monolith. At this time you have exactly one mana in the pool.
    4. Then resolves the copy of the untap-ability on the stack and Basalt Monolith become untapped. Exactly then you have to tap Basalt Monolith again and create three mana again. You can because this is a mana-ability and not put on the stack.
    5. Then resolves the original untap-ability on the stack and untap Basalt Monolith.
    6. Now you can repeat the steps 1-5 to create one mana for every repetition. So you can generate unlimited mana.

    -Detailed description will follow shortly.

The combo components: Grand Architect + Pili-Pala + one blue mana

    The way of functioning:

    1. Activate the ability of Grand Architect with a blue mana and let Pili-Pala become blue until the end of the round.
    2. Use the second ability of Grand Architect and tap Pili-Pala to generate two mana.
    3. So you can use this mana to activate Pili-Pala ability and create a mana of any color.
    4. Now Pili-Pala is untapped again and you repeat the steps 2-3 to create unlimited colored mana.
The combo components: Paradise Mantle + Pili-Pala + Training Grounds

    The way of functioning:

    1. If Paradise Mantle is equipped to Pili-Pala you can start it, you do not even need mana to start.
    2. With ability of Paradise Mantle tap Pili-Pala to create mana any color.
    3. Pili-Pala own ability to activate through Training Grounds actually costs two mana less, but will not fall below one. But that's not bad because we have already created a mana with Paradise Mantle. So you can use this mana to activate Pili-Pala ability and create a mana of any color.
    4. Now Pili-Pala is untapped again and you repeat the steps 2-3 to create unlimited colored mana.
The combo components: Filigree Sages + Doubling Cube + ten mana, two of them blue

    The way of functioning:

    1. You need at least ten mana and two of them blue to start.
    2. Use three colorless mana to activate Doubling Cube, doubling the remaining mana. (( + ) - ) * 2 = + mana.
    3. Use to activate the ability of Filigree Sages and untap Doubling Cube.
    4. So you still have and mana left, more than at the beginning. Now you only need to repeat the steps 2-3 and your mana stock increases exponentially. Of course, if you start with exactly ten mana, you will need a few passes, but the amount will increase quickly. Of course you should also red mana in the pool at the start to double this too.
The combo components: Filigree Sages + Training Grounds/Heartstone + Gilded Lotus or Astral Cornucopia whit three or more countern (two with Training Grounds)

    The way of functioning:

    -Detailed description will follow shortly.

The combo components: Filigree Sages + Astral Cornucopia with four or more countern.

    The way of functioning:

    1. Tap Astral Cornucopia for four or more blue mana.
    2. Use to activate the ability of Filigree Sages and untap Astral Cornucopia.
    3. Now you have a blue mana more than at the beginning. Now you can repeat this as long as you need mana. It makes sense to create a high amount of blue mana and then redo it to generate red.
The combo components: Paradox Engine + Mystic Speculation + at least five mana from mana rocks, one of them blue.

    The way of functioning:

    -Detailed description will follow shortly.

The combo components: Paradox Engine + Strionic Resonator + at least three mana from mana rocks.

    The way of functioning:

    -Detailed description will follow shortly.

The combo components: Paradox Engine + Cyclonic Rift + Isochron Scepter + at least three mana from mana rocks. This of course has a great side effect, namely that all opponents get cleared the board empty. What is mostly a victory for itself.

    The way of functioning:

    1. Create with mana-rocks 3 or more mana of any color or colorless. Use two mana to activate Isochron Scepter and make a copy of Cyclonic Rift and give a permanent back to the opponent's hand, than Paradox Engine will trigger and you untap all your nonland permanents.
    2. Now your mana rocks are untapped again, as well as Isochron Scepter and you even have one more mana in the pool.
    3. now you can always repeat these as long as your opponents still have nonland permanents and give them back to hand and even generate mana.

!!!At this point many opponents simply give up if they have no answer!!!

!!! Anticipating as you read this I will write the description and I will make it a [primer]. So do not take it bad if not everything is described. I try as much as possible to discuss all relevant things in detail. !!!
