I feel as though we are spinning our wheels with the whole siege thing. None of them offer a proactive game plan, and they each require you to commit mana on turns where you are going to want to have response mana open.
I am not even sure what we are trying to address by evaluating them. Every time I see one dropped into the deck I feel like we are giving up trying to win, and instead trying to "not lose".
Kiora #4, or Ashiok MD would be better than any of these enchantments, because even if they get binned, it required your opponent to commit resources to dealing with them. Even better, if they don't/can't a PW is much more likely to win you the game than any of the sieges.
What the deck seems to lack is a big fat clock. Given the way the format is designed currently, we may not get one the way we'd like. Then again... maybe we should just be looking at Pearl Lake Ancient or Thousand Winds.
But stop and consider the plan of the deck: Winning through board interaction and card quality/advantage. Lets not get lazy and try to build the deck to autopilot. We will just lose to decks that have a better implemented plan.

Aezuriel, you always get at the heart of the matter and you put it best by saying "we are giving up trying to win, and instead trying to not lose
You're right. I tried to justify this Siege over the other by what it could passively do for me and its lower CMC, yet Monastery has the same CMC as, say, an Ashiok, which can win a game. Or getting my Dissolve back in there and throwing in one more Downfall or even a Lilly/Jace. Something that the opponent has to deal with, not just watch (like a Siege).
I guess I was just looking at Monastery Siege as a resolution to the many burn decks out there. In testing, they've certainly been helping.

Since everyone seems to be back on track has anyone been considering nissa as wincon. I have been implenting a mixture on Andrews BUG Buddies with this deck and then my attention turned to nissa over lilliana. To me seems to become a more aggressive tactic. And a create of bigger butts to keep the field under control and played correctly with Cruz and removal will present and faster clock than kiora not saying that kiora or garruk should in any way come out. We'll maybe one kiora.

CapitonMurfish I would think Crux of Fate would be terrible combo with Nissa. I may be wrong but I think it would destroy any forests that are creatures.

Not if you crux before you make a forest a creature

I dunno, CapitonMurfish. I recorded a match in one of my prior updates where the Abzan opponent brought in a Nissa against me...I guess that's what some players do from their sideboard against "control opponents." It didn't scare me one bit, though, and kept feigning fear about her to goad him into creating more and more beasts from the lands. One Crux later, I beat him, leaving him 3 lands in play and nothing of consideration that he could cast with that to worry me.
I rely on Crux a lot in this deck and think it might conflict too much with this deck. This deck predicates itself on keeping the board clear until I Wealth.
The more I think about and concentrate on the "theme of the deck," which is essentially control and "playing with the opponents' nice things," the more I think about what Aezuriel's last post was stating. Essentially, do what this deck wants to do and quit padding myself with prevention tactics. His idea of putting the opponent on a clock...there's validity to that and something this deck doesn't have. Though I'm not sold on his idea of Thousand Winds, and PLA being potentially counter-progressive to getting as many lands out there for a Wealth, I do believe there should be something out there that gives my opponent some worry. Perhaps it's just an Ashiok.
It's given me the consideration of removing the Sieges from the main, adding back in the third Dissolve I took out as well as adding in maybe an Ashiok. I can certainly keep 2 of the Monastery Sieges in the sideboard to help against the burn. In testing, no joke, those really do become problematic with a burn opponent. Making them pay 4 for a Lightning Strike or 6 for a Stoke the Flames either prevents them from casting that for a turn or two or limiting them to casting ONLY that and not stack burn onto me or casting an additional creature with it.

Appreciate everyone for the response. I was just curious to get everyone's idea toward nissa since I I can't play with anyone.and again if anyone has seen some cool pics that go with the decks theme for kraken and beast tokens post a like so I can see. I'm not a artist but resourceful enough to use my tech to make some

About a year ago I played against an opponent with a Kiora deck and was able to ultimate her on me. When he whipped out a Kraken token, it was custom-made...and it was a cartoon of a plumber bent over looking under a sink and his ass-crack was popping out the top of his jeans. Cuz, y'know..."Crack-ins," lol
Best token I'd ever seen.

Why not run some Dictate of Karametra to combo with Villainous Wealth? The synergy is just mean and you can dig through the opponents deck and steal they're creatures AND spells as a win-con.

Hi there, Jasper-Sol. Thanks for chiming in. When I first ran this deck about 2 months ago, I did run Dictate to ramp up the Wealths, and may someday come back to that. I've given it thought just to change things up every now and then at FNM. The best days of this deck, oddly enough, were the days AFTER I dropped Dictate of Karametra from the line-up, opting for more control elements.
I think why I took it out was due to the control opponents I would have at my local FNM, and they LOVED the extra mana. And I think I was just a little too inexperienced with the deck, and naturally afraid of control opponents, to learn how to side Dictate out against them.
It may return someday, though. In the meantime, this deck has been winning on the back of Kiora, the Crashing Wave and Wealths for a modest 6-8, depending on the opponent's deck and/or the creatures I just put on top of their library with AEtherspouts, lol.

I wanted to share a villainous wealth deck I'm just putting together. Basically mono green with Sultai splash for Villainous Wealth and some sideboard cards. I have enjoyed your discussions here and would love to hear some of everyones thoughts on a differnt use for the card.
Thanks!

I have to agree with loco the best days with the deck were after dictate left I mean it was so great seeing the face of my opponent when casting vw for 27. But getting there is a real challenge. Only way it would make a return would be as a 1 of with liliana making it back into the deck.
Btw played at my shop yesterday vs b/w warr and r/g monsters with some of the regular players in the shop. I will have those results posted soon.
This deck is definitely the most favorite deck I've built and played. Just a fun overall deck

Just played against this deck with my Abzan Aggro and got crushed!
It's a super good Sultai deck and was alot of fun to play against. Even with my Mistcutter Hydra and Back to Nature coming in from the sideboard and getting you down to 8 life i couldn't win. As soon as the walkers get going its game over. Crux of Fate in the earlier part of the game slows down aggro big time!
+1 from me, great work!

DukeSteele! That game was hella fun, man! That damn sparkly vampire token was hilarious, and he kept catching Kiora's eye....cuz she's villainously wealthy...lol.
Once I was able to cripple the aggro and make sure a monstrous Fleecemane Lion wasn't going to be a problem, I felt pretty comfortable. I will say, with your Rhino trying to punch through my Deathtouch beasts one Valorous Stance at a time, lol, I was beginning to wonder how many of those you HAD in there!
Great game, sir. Hell of a match. Thanks for popping in and passing on the +1 as well!

Don't get me wrong, if burn is really taking over the metagame for you, pay attention to it. Back when I ran Solar Pox, I ended up putting a second [Peace of Mind] and a [Seht's Tiger] MD in certain store locations just because [control] was so hated against (burn prevalent). I just don't want a Sideboard conversation distracting us and diluting the deck. If we need lifegain vs burn, then get lifegain. Feed the Clan is an option, as much as Trading Post and Bow of Nylea. If it is really needed, Monastery Siege can go in the SB. But, I would rather not be finding excuses for putting any seiges Main-Deck. They just aren't what we do best.
Loco-Motive I have also been Eying Soul of Ravnica now that I have had some time to dig through the list of Flying win-cons in the format. 6cmc for a 6/6 Flyer is on par with the old Kamigawa Dragons, makes for a good 3/4 turn clock solo. And the ability is relevant to the function of the deck, even if it isn't broken. But being honest, Rakshasa Deathdealer is up there too. He can be as big as you want him to be and he regenerates. If you consider the man-lands that have been used in the past few seasons, hes downright reasonable.
Bear in mind that part of our vulnerability to burn is directly linked to us not having a "fast" clock in the deck (we give them excess time to topdeck the win). I would take the slots that we are cutting for these sieges and put in things that close the game rather than prolong it.

I feel confident in my build but if you don't mind taking a look. I'd swap a few things from the sideboard that aren't updated but the deck itself is up to date..... Charming villains

I love Villainous Wealth decks, and this one is great. The control that you built around this deck is great, and I was wondering if you could help my control build for my infinite Villainous Wealth drain deck:

Man, I thought I was being clever when I latched on to Villainous Wealth to base a deck around. I had no idea it had a following around here. Shows what I know.
I've piloted a deck very similar to this one (with a couple Genesis Hydras and a single Colossus of Akros for laughs) both casually and at a couple events, and it does well even out of its format (i.e. in Modern, I'm not crazy enough to go against a Legacy deck) most of the time. You're absolutely right about it being fun to play even when you lose; All you have to do is drop a fat Wealth on somebody once to put the fear of God into them for the other two games.
I'm glad to see that this doesn't rely on Devotion to ramp using Karametra's Acolyte or something similar, as I was struggling with making the idea work myself.
+1 from me man, good stuff!

Penga, thanks for the +1 and I'll stop by your deck as well.
MisterFamous, thanks for the +1 as well! And yeah, as you can see, there's some pretty fervent Wealth advocates here, lol. Welcome to the Hall of Villainous Jerks! (but nice Jerks). It's been really fun, and extremely helpful, having the whole lot here being very forthcoming with ideas, tips, and truly constructive discussion about the deck's make-up.
allnewsither, thanks for the comments! Looks like you're looking for some help in the sideboarding scenarios. I'll give you what I can, let me know if you need me to expound a bit more on my choices (and by all means, if you think of an idea that might help a bit more in the sideboard, lemme know!).
As we all know, aggro, burn, and aggro/burn has a pretty decent presence right now in Standard meta. Typically, control will always have a hard time with aggro in Game One, and even more so if there's burn involved. In my past updates, you'll see that I haven't been too susceptible to aggro, but it's certainly a tough match-up. In Game Two of those matches, I'll bring in a Bow of Nylea, three Drown in Sorrow, Rakshasa Deathdealer and, if it's a token-strategy aggro, I'll also bring in Silumgar, the Drifting Death. The Bow and Deathdealer are relatively new to my sideboard. In recent testing, the Bow was great at recouping 3-life per turn and, with the mana I usually accumulate, that hasn't been a strain on me. If you have a break in the pressure they're putting on you, a counter or two on a Caryatid is never a bad thing so it can not only protect you, but also start picking off small creatures with 1-toughness. The Deathdealers become good early blockers with the ability to grow and stick around after the block. Later game, they can put on some pressure offensively. I don't think I need to explain Drown in Sorrow. Kills all their aggro, doesn't do a damn thing to any of my Caryatids and Coursers. Against Token strategies, Silumgar is great.
Against Control opponents, I'll side in additional counterspells Negate and Disdainful Stroke, Thoughtseize, and potentially Ugin, the Spirit Dragon and the Deathdealers. The Deathdealers can survive some of the End Hostilities and spot removals to keep up on pressure. Later game, it might even be able to go toe-to-toe with a Pearl Lake Ancient.
Against Mid-Range Mardu and Abzan opponents, I'll side in maybe only a Disdainful Stroke and Ugin, the Spirit Dragon. Very minimal changes for this type of opponent, as you'll find this deck rarely has too much issue with mid-range stratgies. Our main deck here is already well-suited against it.
Whereas general mid-range of all strategies is usually my easiest opponent, I find that my toughest match-up is actually Temur aggro and mid-range, and I think that's due to its potentially fast, potent start (like a Turn 2 Savage Knuckleblade) as well as that deck's tendency to run Stubborn Denial which can really upset my ability to upset their tempo.
That's a general breakdown, hope it's helpful. If you ever find yourself digging this deck enough to pilot it at an FNM or something, would LOVE to hear how it went for you. I've been posting my match-by-match updates on here every single week so that we can check out what worked, what could be better, etc...
Thanks!

It was totally fun playing a mirror match against allnewsither here when I recognized his name in a waiting room on Untap.in. I entered the room and he didn't know who I was. When he typed "this is a deck idea I'm testing," I said "I bet yer playin' Sultai." He responds with "ummm..."
Think I freaked him out for a sec.
Was a fun match, man...and certainly glad the deck owner beat out the deck tester! The other way around might have made me felt sad...haha. Good game!
