just got FNM results up on my deck Charming villainslast week was very strange and I'm back to Palace Siege it just does so much work i can't deny it. my opponents at the shop are running it so I'm gonna have to run it to counter theirs until i can remove theirs.

Loco-Motive i don't see any life gain in the deck at all except garruk. was just curious on this.

Would you guys want to check out my Sultai Control deck? I'd really appreciate a little feedback.

The deck: My planeswalkers don't like you...

Hey sync

THe coursers get there with the life gain. Also how do you guys post a link for the decks. I tried and it came out as a text url.

Loco-Motive says... #6

Yeah, Coursers.

SlippedRightIn i left you a comment on your page.

@Loco-Motive and CapitonMurfish i forgot about coursers.

also cap. you made a list not a deck. you need to look up at the top left of the screen click deck builder icon. then create new deck on top of the page then make your list there it will then be a deck. if you don't have the full list ready at 1 time you can click prototype in the check box and it won't restrict you from looking at the deck if you need to save. you will see what I'm talking about when you see the deck builder page.

I think you will find that Liliana will be best relegated to the sideboard as she is most relevant to the control mirror and Temur Ascendancy. If your meta shifts toward control and/or Temur combo then MD her.

Right now I am up in the air on whether we should be running 3 or 4 Crux of Fate. Without Ugin, we are a little low on board resets, and while we lean on AEtherspouts a little there, I get the Idea that we are beginning to hit the boundary where we are holding off a little too long to wipe because we don't know when the next clear will topdeck. In the heyday of Ravnica Block (the first one) the control package I found I liked best was

Card Draw/Influence works a bit different in every format as well but I'll look straight to the old pox list:

Extrapolating, we come out to:

  • 6x Full-Clear
  • 5x Utility removal
  • 3x Meta-based removal spells
  • 21x Cards Influenced with 3 cards Gained (+1 in hand size)

Nowadays, planeswalkers work a little different from 187 effects from creatures, so there aren't direct translations... but this should give us a decent Idea of where to set a baseline.

Sorry cap i wasn't trying to be mean or anything just giving details in depth. didn't mean to offend.

Also idk if this will link due to it being a new card but check this out [display of dominance]

this is a card from the new set and I believe we are getting Nicol Bolas, Planeswalker in sultai bc of 3 things about the card above. 1st is the horns in the picture are the same as nicol bolas2nd is the 1st effect says destroy target non-creature permanent 3rd is that the 1st effect says blue or black. so it makes it sultai

I, too, have been pondering having 3 Crux in the MB, Aezuriel.

I ran Lilly in the MB this past Friday and thought she was ok, but in some match-ups, I wouldn't be too excited to see her early or late. Since then, I've moved her to the SB.

In her place, I've added the fourth Downfall. I just think that's the right thing to do. It really takes some pressure off of holding on to one and not using it on a creature early because I suspect they're running planeswalkers. With few options to attack a planeswalker with, my Downfalls become all the more important. I've put Lilly in the SB and you'll also see that I've added a 3rd Crux to the SB. This way, I don't over-commit to clearing creatures if my match-up is a burn or control deck, or just creature-light. I think 2 Crux and 2 Aetherspouts is a good number.

I like this math as I'm still not that certain that Ugin's inclusion is where I want to be just yet? I don't know. I've been winning many, many games on the backs of Kiora and Ashiok alone that my focus has been on surrounding them with cards that protect them rather than include another planeswalker that would otherwise exile them off the board with everything else.

And by the way, I'm happy as hell for this card's return - Ultimate Price!

March 9, 2015 4:54 p.m.

Loco-Motive says... #14

Ultimate Price may possibly relegate Bile Blight back to the sideboard for token-specific adversaries, easier on the mana...

March 9, 2015 4:58 p.m.

EpicLands says... #15

I agree with replacing Bile Blight for Ultimate Price. BB is mostly used on mono-color monsters, Goblin Rabblemaster, Seeker of the Way, and bigger stuff! Now you can put BBs in side board. But it Doesn't hit Lions like BB =,(

i disagree. i think that wizards reprinted that for U/B players not sultai. for the reason we already have that ability in Sultai Charm just my opinion on that. i know i will not be adding it to my list ever. i am contemplating Display of Dominance in my board but not sure if it will make the cut since its only blue or black.

Good point, I was so happy I forgot about Sultai Charm.

March 11, 2015 7:55 a.m.

Aezuriel says... #18

The more I work on this deck, the more I feel like Sultai Charm is one of the best advantages we have over the rest of the meta, and that we should be running 4 of it. Its a very unassuming card, but by default it helps us dig through our library for 3 mana, at instant speed. I cannot stress how valuable that is. This is in-line with cards like Compulsive Research and Thirst for Knowledge which were staples in their formats.

After that, the other options are just gravy! But Its worth pointing out that, since it does not strictly offer card advantage, you want to have the full set to maximize your ability to influence cards. Moreover, if you have to use one to kill an artifact creature or enchantment, you want to be able to rely on the ones left in the deck.

For those of use having issues with Temur Ascendancy or Mastery of the Unseen the card can be a gamebreaker.

Loco-Motive says... #19

Funny you should mention that, Aezuriel. Been teetering on using a full four-of Sultai Charm due to its versatility and the fact that I'm starting to see more Citadel Siege in Abzan decks in the last two weeks. So it's not just healthy against Temur and Jeskai anymore...Abzan is starting to jump on the enchantment bandwagon. And against U/W control with their Banishing Lights, it's nice to get rid of it at the end of their turn or make them burn a counter-spell on it.

Tossing a 4th Sultai Charm into the MB and putting the 4th Hero's Downfall into the side. Removal for removal.

Loco-Motive says... #21

Saw that Duress was spoiled today for Dragons of Tarkir.

So something to ponder is its inclusion in the sideboard against control match-ups, and it may take the place of other cards meant to put more pressure on control like Vess and the Deathdealer. Having a handful of Thoughtseize and Duress against a U/W match-up means they'll never be able to cast that new shiny Narset they sleeved up, lol.

March 11, 2015 12:27 p.m.

Aezuriel says... #22

Just bear in mind what you are toolboxing in vs out.

Sultai Charm - Card Filtering/Mono-Kill/DisenchantHeroes Downfall - Any Creature/PlaneswalkerBile Blight - Early/duplicate aggro/tokens

I am more apt to keep Downfall because I see planeswalkers as a bigger issue than token guys. But your Meta may vary.

Duress is something to take like Thoughtseize. Bother cards are 1-for-1, which means they are for creating openings and gain hand knowlege. They tend to work better in faster decks that want to exploit early threats (Think Husk/BW-Tokens). While Its good to know those tools are there, I think we should be looking more for sustainable advantage like Liliana/Persecute. To us, the cheap discard is like a fancy kill spell, except by using it early, you are allowing them to play something else if they have it.

Be very careful about how you use spot discard in a control deck.

Got some new matches up on my deck list Charming villains

not sure if this has been brought up before, someone just recommended if for my deck

Psychic Intrusion wanted your thoughts, I was thinking it might be a good mirror card.

Loco-Motive says... #25

Hi, yknottry, thanks for the input. I've never used that card. I have them, would certainly be on theme with this deck. I think I want to cast other things at five mana, though. What success have you had with this?
