Did you get to run it last weekend? I'm curious how it did. I ran Bant Heroic. Went 4-1 and placed 3rd. Turns out it was supposed to be a super FNM, but we only got 33 players needed 40+. Still pay outs were good. I could have pulled off that lost game, was so damn close... Big misplay on my part - forgot that damn aqueous form gives you a scry when attacking. My draws were a big reason I couldn't do crap too. Ugh. Oh well. I am definitely more of a control player. Loved having Stubborn Denial in hand when he tried to stoke my creatures haha.
Back on topic... Reconsidering Silumgar's Command after hearing a deck tech name it as a "worse Cryptic Command". Lol. Maybe just to see how it plays out. I wonder if languish x4 is over kill as well. That was another one "all you do is play it once. Knowing it is in your deck will make your opponent play differently. You don't actually need 4".
Anyways. I gotta handle some shit at work I'll check back later

Hey loco,
I think you found your replace for villainous wealth with the telepath when rotation comes.

Maybe....Talent of the Telepath is just so much less fun, lol.
Was thinking about some additional brewing up with this list and make Jace, Vryn's Prodigy Flip and Jace, Telepath Unbound Flip a little more of the focal point. Cast Villainous Wealth, get some Jace flipped, cast Wealth again...lol....I don't know if I'm getting too foolish here. Could be fun.

yeah that would be fun business. but nobody willingly lets jace live past the turn he comes out. Even if aggro decks see him the focus is about jace and sideboard will focus on jace and kiora. Whats the reasoning on ashiok?

also I see nissa being a very late wincon if played correctly. Against control. She kinda gets in the way if they can pull off a Fates if she ulitmates. I awesome she's there to courser you top cards. and slowly gain kiora protection.

With all the aggro coming after the PT, wouldn't Ashiok be bettering the main? Draws heavy attention & they have to make an effort to remove it. Otherwise you take their threats.

So many good resources going away next week. Any of you plan on playing this deck one last time before rotation? I'm still debating, this or Bant Heroic... I haven't had a chance to test this since my latest iteration. The guys I've been playing EDH with instead of doing FNM are all playing tonight as well.
So going forward... Ruinous path is... Barely playable. Kills me it's sorcery speed. Anything you guys actually like? Only thing this set brings that I'm looking forward to is expedition lands. I'm probably not playing standard this block.

I'm curious to see bfz updates. I've been playing a deck similar to this since villainous wealth came out and want to keep it going.

Hey Siq6Six, good to hear from ya again -
I wasn't able to pilot this deck one last time before rotation, sadly. Wasn't able to play. I'm trying to go through the cards of the new set and find some new, under-the-radar gems that could further a Villainous Wealth strategy. The obvious look is all of the Eldrazi that come packed with additional li'l dudes that you can sacrifice for mana. Nissa's Renewal seems too late in the game for an appropriate mana-accelerated set-up. I wished that From Beyond was 3 to cast instead of 4. Void Attendant takes some time and energy to make work.
I almost think that if this were to work, we'd have to go largely creature-less, throw in some Mage-Ring Network, get all the crazy Sultai kill-spells for prevent defense, and then work up to a Wealth.
Those are my initial thoughts. Anyone else?

I threw this together with what I opened.

So I've been trying to put together a sultai Control deck since forever. Had one prior to Theros rotation, and I'm thinking of putting this together with some updates.
Have you played this deck since October? any thoughts? upgrades? changes?
Would love to know more before I start picking up cards for it.

Hi there, CattCaller - thanks for checking the deck out.
I've shelved this deck in favor of playing Dark Jeskai for a few months, and just recently, playing my four-color Dragon control that's been netting me first place at my last two FNMs. It's been a really fun deck to play that I don't see out there anywhere really.
I WANT to come back to this Villainous Wealth deck, however. I truly do miss it. I think with Sylvan Caryatid and Courser of Kruphix rotated out, as well as some other choice ramp cards, it was a lot harder to pull off a good wealth. I do believe I am going to give this deck an overhaul when Oath of the Gatewatch comes out, as I see some cards that might better support the ramp needed while still remaining control (instead of going 100% ramp, which I find is a fragile strategy).
I'm waiting for the rest of the Gatewatch spoilers with this deck in mind.

So I quit playing standard after half of the deck rotated. Been playing EDH weekly, since. However I never forgot about this deck. I built an EDH deck around Villainous Wealth (would other wise be Dmir). Leovold @ the helm.
Now with this talk of Frontier, I may piece VW back together. I'm not sure how deep I'll follow this idea, or if I'll participate in the format. We still wouldn't have old Kiora, or Ashiok, Courser or Sylvan C. Maybe there are too many keys from Theros that this deck needs to function properly.
Any ideas on it?

Hmmm, what do you mean by "talk of Frontier?" What format?
December 19, 2016 8:24 p.m.
Oh you haven't heard? It's a "new" eternal format people are trying to get going. Kick off point is M15, so we still get hosed out of the major planeswalkers & thoughtseize. Seems interesting. ~ 8 or so people @ my LGS are interested in it. Sounds like they may start up a night for frontier.

Huh, no I've not heard of the format until now. Haven't heard anything through my LGS group either.
I'll hold off on making a deck for it until it gains some traction with the locals. Made that mistake once with Tiny Leaders and took time to make two decks...no one plays it around here, lol.

I dunno, CapitonMurfish, I think this deck was made stronger because of Languish and I'm a little hard pressed to think of other cards that perform equally as well outside of Crux and Aetherspouts, but those are both one more mana. I don't think Drown is the answer. And this would be kinda janky, but perhaps Den Protector or Reclaim to buy back kill spells? I guess that's really how good Languish is... it's hard to replace.
The next thing I would say is Perilous Vault, but we're running too many Walkers out there for the Vault...
