Who is she, and why?

Lady Zhurong is a fictional character in Luo Guanzhong's historical novel Romance of the Three Kingdoms. She claimed to be descended from the fire deity Zhu Rong, from whom she acquired her name. Zhurong was the only woman in the novel who took part in any of the fighting, battling against Shu Han forces alongside her husband. -- Wikipedia

Portal Three Kingdoms legends: interesting and eduational!

Lady Zhurong is a 4/3 for 4G, slightly mediocre by current creature strength standards. Unlike other green voltron generals Thrun, the Last Troll and Silvos, Rogue Elemental, Lady Zhurong hasn't got any form of built-in protection like hexproof or regeneration. However, what she does have is the best evasion of any mono-green commander. And in mono-green, instead of trying so hard to protect her, you can just ramp hard so when she dies you can recast her again again.

How did I decide on Lady Zhurong? To be honest -- I was initially going to build Sigarda, but I didn't want a general with such unappealing artwork. Lady Zhurong's artwork is flat-out beautiful. Since I like my decks to have an aesthetic theme, to complement this lovely general, I eschewed the typical big monsters of mono-green decks for a bunch of female warriors and shieldbearers for Lady Zhurong.

The gameplan

It's a straight voltron gameplan here. Swords, auras, and go wild. Lady Zhurong isn't efficient enough to beat opponents to death quick, so we go for the long game, using the enchantress package and Life from the Loam with cycling lands to draw enough cards to keep running while dumping all the deck's lands onto the table.

City of Solitude and Hall of Gemstone do serious work, locking the opponents out of interaction so a massive, hasty Zhurong can run in to one-shot.

This deck also packs enough Exploration effects to play the Strip Mine/Crucible of Worlds game with ease, if we feel like something a bit more nasty.
