AKH Updates —April 28, 2017
Lots of great land-flavored cards from Amonkhet! Let's jump in:
Seek the Horizon > Harvest Season - I like that Seek put lands in your hand, so I can play them untapped, but Harvest Season has the potential for some major landfall. I would rather rely on straight up card draw to get extra lands in hand.
Yavimaya Elder > Shefet Monitor - Cycling Shefet gets me instant-speed landfall (untapped!) and a card. He's a big beast too if he ends up on the board. I like it.
Blighted Woodland > Sheltered Thicket - Cycling land is great. Another draw source and I have many cards that get it back to my hand. Also counts as a Mountain for Valakut if I play it. Blighted Woodland always seemed overcosted in action.
Bow of Nylea > Sandwurm Convergence - Deathtouch with trample is great, but I don't need that trick to stomp people down to 0. Gruul War Chant works better. I'll try this flying protection with bonus wurms. Also feels on-theme with land.
I might also consider Heaven / Earth for instant flying hate and bonus weenie hate later. This deck is weak to flyers. Not sure what to take out for it though. Something like Spidersilk Armor or Silklash Spider would also work.
Other updates:
Sylvan Ranger > Rampant Growth - Sylvan Ranger is a pet card but it's time to swap it for ramp at the same CMC. Plus I have a couple ways to grab creatures off the top of the deck, and I'd rather hit a better creature than this. Sorry, SR!
Farhaven Elf > Nissa, Vastwood Seer Flip - I finally picked up a Nissa now that the price went down, and I think she'll be a nice upgrade. Land to hand isn't a drawback for me with my multiple land drops, and it doesn't take long to get to 7 lands to trigger Nissa. She'll help me draw more cards and drop more lands!
