Standard* Counters GU (Simic) Ramp

Sideboard

This deck is a Simic Midrange-Counters that I had during the RtR block but took apart. When Kiora, the Crashing Wave came out I knew that I had to make it again.

The basic idea of this deck is to ramp with weenies into one of several win conditions that include but are not limited to Kiora, the Crashing Wave, Thassa, God of the Sea, Kruphix, God of Horizons, and Polukranos, World Eater.

Polukranos, World Eater is an insane card that has built in removal. Just pay 6 mana and destroy a 3 toughness creature. Also, you have an 8/8 now. The best part about it is that you can combo it with Prophet of Kruphix and untap everything to do it.

Thassa, God of the Sea is an exceptional card. The gods are very efficient creatures with the devotion aspect but combos so well with Courser of Kruphix. Not a land? To the bottom! Land? To the battlefield! Also swinging in an unblockable Kiora token for 2 mana is pretty insane.

Prophet of Kruphix is a great card in my opinion. It allows you essentially to play creatures at the very end of your opponent's second main, use abilities such as Bident of Thassa's and Kiora's Follower, as well as ramp a second time. And then you can untap like those plays never happened.

Kruphix, God of Horizons really brings this deck together. First of all, a 4/7 body can be a good blocker, and can swing in in a pinch. Combos well with Prime Speaker Zegana, where dropping that after a monstrous Polukranos, World Eater allows you to drop an 8/8 or 10/10 body, then draw 8 or 10 cards, and not have to discard any. Then, just tap remaining lands/mana dorks at the end of your opponents second main and have a mana boost during your turn.

Lastly, Kiora, the Crashing Wave. This Planeswalker is SO GOOD. I suppose they could afford to make her so good with Hero's Downfall in standard as well as the often overlooked Dreadbore. But if you aren't against black, with blockers such as Arbor Colossus and her +1 (not as helpful due to sorcery speed; they'd have to have only one attacker or one attacker who is a threat). Then you can get a 9/9 Kraken every turn after the fourth, who can in turn block for her. Also a cheap draw that ramps is very good.

Explanations of lesser but important cards:

Elvish Mystic: Solid ramp card on turn 1.

Experiment One: Solid one drop that grows.

Kiora's Follower: Can untap a better blocker, or add more ramp to the tune of: Tap elvish mystic, Tap Kiora's Follower, Tap elvish mystic again. Insert turn 3 Prophet of Kruphix here, then do it all again during your opponents turn.

Sylvan Caryatid: Turn 2 ramp that can't be destroyed easily.

Cyclonic Rift: Boardwipe that can be used in a pinch to bounce a creature.

Golgari Charm: Multi-use instant that saves creatures from board wipe and reduces damage dealt. Also, with enchants being common in the Theros meta, it takes out things like weapons of the gods.

Hero's Downfall: Solid, solid removal that can take care of threats easily, including a planeswalker.

Bident of Thassa: Takes away blockers, and can be used in conjunction with Golgari Charm to force an attack and debuff their creatures so it hurts less, and then swing in for a lot next turn. Also gives insane card draw, and with no max hand size from Kruphix, God of Horizons you get a massive hand.

Updates Add

Due to the spoilers that have come out for JOU, I have decided to transfer the deck from counters (Simic's main focus in RtR block) to card draw, which is supported by Kruphix, God of Horizons. For this reason, took out Master Biomancer and Bile Blight to add wincons such as Hydra Broodmaster to the sb and the god Kruphix himself.

These cards provide great synergy with the mana bank Kruphix starts to build up, especially with his Prophet of Kruphix and Prime Speaker Zegana. Hydra Broodmaster is a great way to unleash all that built up mana, with an army of hydras coming at your opponent.

Added in Golgari Charm as a multi use instant, as well as adding Dictate of Karametra and Dictate of Kruphix to the sideboard. Also readded Courser of Kruphix to the deck.
