I'll just let you look at that beautiful art for a second-

Hello everyone! Welcome to my take on Golgari Elves. This deck accelerates really fast, and goes really wide, so if that's your kind of playstyle, then this is your kind of deck. Any suggestions, questions, or thoughts are welcome. And if you like the deck, or the primer, upvotes are much appreciated!

The second I saw Lathril, Blade of the Elves , I knew I wanted to build her. And not just because of her great art. Lets take a look at her mechanics:

First of all, whenever Lathril deals damage to a player, create that many 1/1 elves. This alone creates fuel for the whole rest of the deck. Cards like Elvish Archdruid , Growing Rites of Itlimoc  , and Elven Ambush need lots elves to be at their best, and Lathril by herself generates two a turn. Second, she provides a win condition: tap Lathril and 10 other elves to hit each opponent for 10 and gain 10 life. This is very powerful, and can win the game very quickly. So, Lathril provides value both in the early game and in the late game, making her the perfect commander for the deck.

Our primary gameplan is to ramp into our commander, get to 10 elves as quickly as possible, and then start draining our opponent's for 10 every turn. We want to be attacking with Lathril every turn if possible. Use cards like Regal Force to refill your hand, and generate as many elf tokens as you can.

However, Lathril can sometimes be a bit of a removal suck. If you find yourself unable to win with Lathril, there are quite a few mass buff cards in this deck. Cards like Craterhoof Behemoth and Finale of Devastation , for example, can easily win the game if you have a decent amount of elves on the battlefield. Don't underestimate the power of 15 15/15 Elf Warriors.

- Beast Whisperer : Beast Whisperer provides great value. It usually draws at least one or two cards a turn, and is really good at keeping us from running out of gas.

- Craterhoof Behemoth : Craterhoof is a classic. With just 10 elves on the battlefield it can straight up win the game. It's one of our best win conditions other than Lathril.

- Elvish Mystic , Llanowar Elves , Fyndhorn Elves , Elves of Deep Shadow : These cards are pretty fundamental to the deck. They act as cheap ramp to get our commander down a turn or two early, and also provide a body for Lathril and other Elves-matter cards.

- Elvish Archdruid : A very powerful mana producer. I often find myself tutoring for Archdruid, as it acts as a mana dork in the early game, and a Genesis Wave /finale of devestation enabler later on. Not to mention that it buffs all our elves, which makes Lathril pump out an extra token every turn.

- Elvish Champion : Almost all the time, at least one of my opponents has a forest. Then, Elvish Champion is then a huge threat against them: 10 unblockable 2/2s is pretty good. It also guarantees that Lathril hits every turn.

- Elvish Dreadlord : A one-sided boardwipe that gets around indestructible. In the middle-late game, encoring Dreadlord can sometimes win the game, as it clears the way for our army of elves to swarm in. Dreadlord also often discourages ground attacks against us.

- Elvish Harbinger : An elf tutor that's also a dork that's also an elf? Harbinger is an auto-include. It's a great play on turn 3, and on turn 10.

- Ezuri, Renegade Leader : Ezuri serves both as protection for Lathril and our other elves, and as a mana sink/second Craterhoof Behemoth . Just like Harbinger, this card is great early-game and late-game.

- Harald, King of Skemfar : Harald is almost always decent. His main purpose is to look for more important elves; other than that (and, of course, providing a body for Lathril), Harald doesn't have much use. I could see cutting him in the future.

- Freyalise, Llanowar's Fury : Freyalise provides great utility. All of her abilities are useful. She can remove problematic artifacts or enchantments and can help us go a little wider. Her ultimate ability more than refills our hand. Definitely an auto-include.

- Liliana, Dreadhorde General : In my playgroup, I'm not up against many creature-based decks like this one, and if I am it tends to be more voltrony than swarmy. Liliana's -4 can often just be a boardwipe for everyone else, and two practically free cards for me because of her passive. However, that is basically Liliana's only use in this deck, so feel free to cut her in favor of other card draw or removal if you are up against decks that she is less effective against.

- Tyvar Kell : I mean, Tyvar is just perfect for this deck in every way. His passive turns all of our elf tokens into Elves of Deep Shadow . His +1 ability can untap big mana producers like Marwyn, the Nurturer , or it can be used to buff Lathril for more elves. His 0 ability makes more tokens. And his ultimate is double Guardian Project on steroids. This card was one of the first on the list and one of the first to be bought.
