Feb 23, 2023, my first companion deck. Gyruda, Doom of Depths is the impetus behind the deck. Lazav, Dimir Mastermind made great sense as the commander. He'll hopefully shapeshift off Gyruda, Doom of Depths' trigger plus other mill, removal and discard. This deck will not mill out opponents as a primary strategy. Mindcrank seems great though, so I added Duskmantle Guildmage for the combo possibility, with Muddle the Mixture able to get either piece or Animate Dead or Dimir Signet in a pinch.
Merfolk Looter and its analogs fill the graveyard for reanimating. Hopefully we get to cheat out Vilis, Broker of Blood, Jin-Gitaxias, Core Augur or It That Betrays. Geth, Lord of the Vault will be a great lieutenant for Lazav, Dimir Mastermind.
Doom Mind: Lazav and Gyruda (Companion): Doom Mind
Introduction:
Welcome to the dark and twisted realm of Doom Mind, a deck that combines the eerie powers of Lazav, Dimir Mastermind and Gyruda, Doom of Depths. Crafted on February 23, 2023, this companion deck seeks to exploit Lazav's shapeshifting abilities and Gyruda's haunting triggers to unleash a symphony of mill, reanimation, and control. With a carefully selected ensemble of creatures, enchantments, artifacts, and spells, Doom Mind aims to dominate the battlefield and command the sinister forces of the Dimir guild.
Shapeshifting and Reanimation:
At the core of Doom Mind lies the deceptive prowess of Lazav, Dimir Mastermind. Lazav's ability to transform into fallen foes synergizes seamlessly with Gyruda's triggered ability, providing a constant stream of reanimation possibilities. Cards like Merfolk Looter and its analogs fuel your graveyard, setting the stage for the grand entrances of powerful creatures like Vilis, Broker of Blood, Jin-Gitaxias, Core Augur, and It That Betrays. Lazav's shapeshifting capabilities, combined with selective reanimation, create a tapestry of deception that keeps opponents off balance and trembling in fear.
Sinister Combos and Control:
Within the dark recesses of Doom Mind, secrets are hidden, waiting to be unleashed. Combos like the deadly partnership of Duskmantle Guildmage and Mindcrank present a lethal win condition, catching opponents in an inescapable web of mill and damage. Utility spells like Muddle the Mixture serve as versatile tools, fetching key pieces of your strategy or acting as counterspells when needed. Meanwhile, Ratchet Bomb, Powder Keg, and Blast Zone stand as artifacts of destruction, ready to be activated to cleanse the battlefield of opposing threats.
Strategic Mill and Card Advantage:
While Doom Mind does not focus on milling opponents as a primary strategy, it harnesses the power of selective mill and card manipulation to gain an advantage. Lazav's Seer's Vision allows you to copy the best creature in any opponent's hand, turning their strengths against them. Cards like Braingeyser and Curse of the Swine offer opportunities for targeted mill and creature transformation. By controlling the flow of information and exploiting opponents' resources, Doom Mind ensures that your symphony of doom plays out in perfect harmony.
Mana and Resource Management:
In the dimly lit halls of Doom Mind, careful management of resources is essential. Artifact ramp cards such as Arcane Signet, Mind Stone, and Fellwar Stone provide a steady flow of mana to fuel your sinister plans. The addition of lands like Dimir Aqueduct and Darkwater Catacombs ensures stability in your mana base. The deck also features versatile instants like Jwari Disruption
and Snuff Out, allowing you to disrupt opponents' strategies and maintain control over the battlefield.
Conclusion:
Doom Mind combines the enigmatic forces of Lazav, Dimir Mastermind and Gyruda, Doom of Depths in a symphony of deception and dread. With its reanimation strategies, sinister combos, and selective mill, this deck ensures that your opponents will be tormented by their worst nightmares. As Lazav shapeshifts and Gyruda awakens, the echoes of doom will reverberate through the battlefield. Embrace the darkness, command the shadows, and may your foes succumb to the alluring grip of Doom Mind.
Ratchet Bomb and Powder Keg can be exploded to remove odd mana value permanents. Same for Blast Zone. My LGS, the Treasure Chest, doesn't have an Extinction Event, which would be sweet. Seer's Vision should make Lazav, Dimir Mastermind a copy of the best creature in any opponent's hand.
